Demadria loved springtime. Winters were long and hard for the harpy, she bore them with the help of her tight knit family and with keeping busy enough to try to ignore the weather, but she reveled in the arrival of spring and the wild growth that accompanied it. Her green eyes skimmed the forest, taking a deep cleansing breath of air, rich and heavy with the scent of growing things. The spring mornings were still slow to warm but with the sun high and bright in the sky, it was pleasant outside and she basked in the feel of sunlight against her back. Dema stretched and worked the kinks out of her neck as she went. It felt good to walk, there was a warm satisfying ache in her legs as the muscles worked, she had been cooped up for too long. It would take some time to regain her stamina. Of course, there were ways for her to keep up her strength, but she had never really taken to fighting so sparring with the males or the warrior females of the flock had never really seemed like an enticing option for her.
A sturdy cloth bag was slung over her neck, full of the little embellishments she liked to include in the cloth she wove, shiny agates gathered from a stream, colorful feathers, bits of fur that would need to be cleaned, and some plants and insects that could be ground up and used to dye cloth. It had been months since she had been able to forage for fresh ingredients so she was eager to return to the flock to begin working, but not before she filled up her bag. The mare paused, leaning down to inspect a promising looking flower when a flash of white caught her eye, she froze, every muscle in her body tense and alert, the flower forgotten as she crept closer. It looked to big to be one of the forest creatures, was it a male, foolishly wandering into flock territory. She panicked a bit, almost wanting to flee, she had worked with the training stallions of course, all the mares had, but she had never captured an outside mare before. Wasn't sure she could, especially caught unprepared, but if that was a stallion out there, she would have to try. The bells woven into the end of her hair chimed delicately with each stealthy movement as she slipped closer, relief flooded her, followed closely by a hint or embarrassment at her own nerves as she saw it was another mare. Albeit, not a mare like any she had seen before, Dema's eyes traced the fluffy tail, the feathered wings, the paws and the long ears before meeting the mare's blue eyes. She smiled in greeting, feeling a bit uncertain about how to approach. She had never encountered anyone who didn't belong to the flock, most people she interacted with she had known since birth so she wasn't quite sure what to do, Demadria felt suddenly overwhelmed with a frustrating combination of shyness and curiosity.
"Hello," she trilled a bit awkwardly.
