The air was ripe with cheer in all of Tendaji. The Oban's King had been defeated and a new and compassionate one put in his place, the slaves were released, and it was time for the Winter Solstice. Friendly faces abounded as the havoc of the war was nearly wiped away and the villages restored.
It would seem as if everyone was enjoying the season, and it was very clear to see why. Almost every land in Tendaji were hosting their own winter celebrations, partying and feasting until the early hours of the morning before settling in to sleep for the night. It wasn't a time for work anymore, but a momentary reprieve for play.
Niabi had been back on the Islands for almost a week now since her excusion to Zena for the snowball fight. She had had a good time, and found Vollerei and her daughter Neska there. It was nice to get out and explore, and was proud of herself now for having found the courage to travel. She was just about to hurry onto her next trip off of the islands that day actually, and was heading out to the mainland. She didn't have a plan as to where she would be going, but she had been all ove Jauhar, so she was setting her sights a little farther out.
She had only a small pack with her, and her bow, as she located a waiting ferry that would soon ship out across the water. It seemed like a nice enough day. The sea breeze brought down a chill in the air that had her wearing a little extra clothing and some much needed sandals on her feet to protect from the cool ground.

Sure! I kinda do the snowball thing OOC for most of my people. XD But for this it tis IC :3 I hope you don't mind if I combine their posts.. I find it hard to do separate tags for my characters.. easier to make one big one biggrin
Neska was hopping about eagerly, holding her kinfa plushie in one hand and the poscuta Mimi in her arms. They were going to go find her a Kinfa! She'd get her own one! Volerei called out to her; "Hey! Come on Neska.. help me pack here." She laughed as Neska darted in then trotted about doing absolutely nothing to help."Or go and keep Zweil occupied and grab Snack at least?" Packing for herself was easy.. but for this trip to Sauti she needed gear for both her and Neska.. plus something to carry Snack and Mimi in.. I'll have to buy some extra gear at one of the towns when we get there, she thought with a sigh as she finished filling up the not packed backpack.
"Hurry up momma!" Neska chirped from the living room.
"You going to carry Mimi in your arms the whole way?" Vollerei asked as she took Snack from her daughter's back and placed the lazy fat Maglardilla on her pack.
"Uh huh!" Neska said as she skipped out the door and down the winding primitive stairs about the tree trunk to the ground.
Vollerei shook her head and chuckled. Mimi will probably end up on the ground real quickly, she thought in amusement as they headed towards the ferry.
"Hurry momma..." Neska said as she looked back over her shoulder with a pout as they got closer to it. "Ferry gonna leave!"
Sighing, Vollerei picked up her pace and scooped up Neska and her companion to keep her from scampering about. "It's not leaving just yet lil lady. We've got time. There's really no need to rush."

Niabi had barely been able to take a seat on quickly filling up ferry when she noticed a familiar face bending out of sight and straightening with her daughter in tow. She looked around, biting her lip before deciding to scoot her bags over to save the space next to her for the girls.
Standing, she waved with a large smile on her face. "Vollerei!" She cleared her throat and called again, hoping the woman would hear her. She gestured to the space next to her, "I hope you don't mind, I saved you a seat." She smiled to her friend and her daughter. "It's nice to see you again Neska." She saw the kinfa doll in her arms. "And who's this guy?" Niabi's eyes turned to the actual animals around the two and raised an eyebrow at the tow of critters that they seemed to be bringing with them.

It makes me happy knowing that at next stage Zweil will be adult sized 8D
Vollerei gave a happy smile when she spotted Niabi. Striding over she placed Neska and the packs down before wrapping Niabi in a huge happy hug.
"Niabi! This is a nice surprise. I take it you're finally leaving the island? Got a destination in mind?" Maybe she didn't and will come with us? That'd be nice, Volerei though as she set the smaller woman down.
Neska watched with a critical eye before holding up her doll and potsuca companion. "Mimi is the real one! Flare's my dolly. See, I do like Kinfas lots." She could still recall that comment made in the snow. "Momma said we're gonna get me my own kinfa!"
Zwielicht, being too large to be carried except for short times and almost to adult size siddled over along the ferry railing to check out this new one... and see if he could hit her up for treats!
"The big bird's Zwielicht, or just Zweil. He'll eat anything and has gotten really good and picking pockets for food so watch out! Snack's this one," she pointed at the fast asleep maglardilla in her bag. "I'd leave some behind but Neska insisted on bringing Mimi and Snack would get eaten if I left him behind. At least I got her to leave behind most of her dolls...." She sighed and shook her head.
Neska stuck her tongue out at her mother. "Flare wants to meet his family in Tale!"

Niabi was taken by surprise by the immediate hug of the larger Alkidike and let out a little "Ooh." as her feet left the floor briefly. Once settled back on the ground she pushed her dreads out of her face and laughed out in delight. It was good to see her friend again. "I... actually thought I would just go wherever my feet take me." Maybe she should have put a little more thought into her trip, but 'not Jauhar' was about as far as she had gotten.
Little Neska brought her carry-ons up towards Niabi's face and she leaned down to take a better look. "I guess I was wrong about you. You have the doll, and you're going to get one, so you must like them a lot."
She felt the boat tip in the water and her eyes went wide momentarily with fear before noticing the large bird. With a sigh of relief she took her seat, hoping the others would follow suit and pulled a piece of dried meat out of her bag for Zweil to eat with a smile. "Do you... would you mind if I tagged along to Tale with you?"
She felt her plans starts to come together. If Vollerei and her daughter were off to Tale for a kinfa, Niabi could help.

"You should definitely come with us!" Vollerei said as Neska sat on the bench mollified now that Niabi had acknowledge that she really did like Kinfas lots. "I've been to Tale several times now so I know the safer ways there... I'd enjoy your company on the trip too. See if you've gotten better at cooking!" Vollerei grinned as Neska smirked.
Zweil accepted the meat and scooted closer trying to get more before Vollerei stepped between them and showed him away to lounge against the railing. "What made you decide to finally leave home? I'm happy you decide to!" Vollerei was happy to notice that Niabi was quite a bit more... happy? Confident? Something at least was different. It was a good different! Made the cute one that much more attractive...

Niabi hadn't realized she was holding her breath for an answer until she sighed out in relief. Then it was settled, she would be joining them. "I hope I don't disappoint you with my cooking. I've been trying but I can't say that I've gotten any better." She smiled to Vollerei and Neska both, watching Neska's little bow bob as she played with her kinfa doll.
Niabi twisted her hands in her lap. It was still a touchy subject for her. Her mothers hasn't responded well to Niabi when she returned from her quest, and they had stayed in Jauhar when she had decided to return to Chibale to live. "I... well I... guess I'm just tired of being afraid..." She trailed off at the end. There was much more to it than that, but she didn't know how she could possibly explain the bug mages to Vollerei, and she wouldn't even want to bring it up when someone as young as Neska was around. "Anyways... I'm happy I decided to, too."

We should have them stop at an alkidike village for festivals!
Vollerei reached out a hand to scratch Zweil's crest and gave Niabi a grin; "Practice makes perfect! Neska burned her first try completely!"
Neska gave her mother a glare before turning back to looking out at the waters.So she'd burned it! The first few times... and then didn't cook it long enough the next few.....
Ever confident Vollerei could recall a time where she'd been nervous to venture out but never a fear really... Wonder what Niabi was afraid of? She wanted to ask but felt prying would be a bit rude at the moment. "It's always a difficult thing to take that first step when you're afraid.... Glad you decided to though! Gonna be an entertaining time I guess trying to catch a Kinfa... All I know I you need to get them young which could be difficult. I got lucky with Zweil here. He just bumbled out of the sky and tried nesting on some guys feathered headdress." That had been her very first encounter with a male and it'd been... an odd one! Wonder if that boy still paints himself and wears ridiculous feathered hats...

Niabi's eyes widened in surprise at the youngling's glares. She looked much too young to be cooking... but then again, Niabi hadn't learned until recently either and that was much too old.
She patted a hand on Neska's arm in reassurance. "I'm sure you're much better now though. And probably much better than me." She grinned to the little girl before looking to her mother. "Nesting in a headdress? That's... an interesting way to meet a friend." She laughed out. "You'll have to tell me that story sometime." She reclined in her seat, leaning on the side of the ferry and watching the little Alkidike and her mother. Niabi was really starting to grow attached to the two.

Vollerei grinned; it had been a rather interesting event! And now the little ball of fluff was this huge bird that was getting close to being able to carry her! Gotta get his muscles up though if I want him to carry my weight! Neska smiled; "I am doing better! Not sure I'm better'n you though..." She crawled across the bench and over Vollerei's lap to sit between them. "Hey Niabi? How'd you meet momma?" She looked up inquiringly; she knew Momma knew Niabi... but from where?
Vollerei chuckled; "That was before the Obans came... Met her hunting..."
"Didn't ask you momma! Asked her!" Neska pouted slightly as the boat docked. Of in the distance loud sounds could be heard; something interesting was going on! It didn't sound dangerous, but rather festive....

Niabi scooted over to make room for Neska and laughed at her reprimanding of Vollerei. "Well, like your momma was saying, I had just moved back to the islands and didn't really know what I was doing or how to hunt, so your momma helped me out." She smiled to Vollerei and winked at Neska. "Your momma's very good at hunting, did you know that?"
The boat docked and with a little thud they were ready to unload from the ferry. Niabi felt her antennae twitch at the sounds in the distance. She couldn't quite make out what they were but she was almost sure she could hear drums.

Neska grinned proudly; "Momma is the best hunter!" She was certain of it.... otherwise how had momma gotten to such a bulk unless she was the best at hunting?
She looked over at Vollerei who had a curious expression on her face. "What is it momma?"
"Hmm... Sounds almost like a festival's drums... I think I smell something tasty on the wind too...." Vollerei mused out loud. Her stomach growled softly and she grinned; it sensed food! "I bet there's food there! Let's go check it out!" She reached out to pick up Neska and signaled Zweil to take to the air. Bounding down the ramp of the ferry she looked back up at Niabi with a cheeky grin; "What do you bet it's a festival for the war being over? They've gotta have food and dancing right?" Normally she liked just the food... but today she wouldn't mind a dance or two...

Niabi tried to smell what Vollerei was smelling, but she couldn't tell yet. A post-war festival? Is that what that was? Niabi watched as Vollerei scooped up her daughter and began her run down the ramp with a laugh. "I hope they have food. I haven't eaten all day."
She followed in a quick run with Vollerei. Dancing, that would be nice. She had wanted to learn to dance once, back when she was young and foolish. It didn't mean she couldn't start now, though she was rusty.
She let Vollerei lead the way with her nose toward the smells and sounds of the festival. If Vollerei could smell it then it had to be pretty close. "Are you hungry Neska? If I know anything about your momma, then she's gotta be ready for food."

Vollerei chuckled; "They'll have food! I'm smelling a lot of different smells so it's gotta be a festival of some sort! And that means lots of food!" Al the tasty food... Alkidike food though, which was fine but it meant she'd probably eaten it before but that didn't mean she wouldn't enjoy it! "Not eaten all day?" She looked over at Niabi with a raised eyebrow; "Tsk tsk! We've gotta get you some food before you waste away then!"
Neska giggled at Niabi's comment; "Momma's always ready for food... even right after she eats. I'm not too hungry.. wouldn't mind some sweets though." She was always up for sweets!
Vollerei patted her short dreads with a smile as they got closer to the alkidike village all decked out and filled with loud voices, delicious smells, and happy people. It was a nice day for it as well; with no rain for once and not too hot or cold. She was definitely ready for food! And dancing.... the relaxed and joyous air of the village infected her and she smiled. "Looks like they'll be ready soon." She said as she waved to the welcoming calls of the other Alkidikes. She recognized a few from her hunt for the Bandit king, and called back to them.

Niabi laughed and nodded her head. "I think I can go for some sweets with you. I have a soft spot for candy." Niabi was a sucker for sweets, whether it was some sort of sweet desert, or candy, she didn't care which.
They entered the village and Vollerei had hit it right on the head, the whole place was getting ready for the festivities. She didn't see anyone dancing yet, though she supposed it was still early with the sun up, but she could now smell all of the delicious Alkidike food. Her stomach gave an aggressive growl and she could feel it tighten under her skin. "Ok, so maybe I need more than just some sweets." She laughed. "Should we find something to eat first?"
