Devil NightShade Ardat: *watches the goings on .. eyeing the strange kalona stallion and two-legger, occasionally getting distracted by her small mouse Demona playing in her mane* ~Latonia de la Courtel~ Aveshar: *shakes the snow off and stops mid-stretch, silver eyes narrowed as he considers the mare with a thoughtful sound* Hmm... Devil NightShade Ardat: *snapsout of an intense 'discussion' with Demona and noticies the stallion looking at her* Caan I help you? *trying hard not to be totally snappy as mum would kick her rump .. but ... weird guy is weird* ~Latonia de la Courtel~ Aveshar: *flicks an ear and lifts a brow, titling his head as he considered the mare. Her snappish attitude was noted, even if the tone was somewhat restrained. She reminded him of...* I doubt it, I don't recall being in need of any sort. *he returned in an amicable enough tone, amusement glinting in the tone* Just observing. Devil NightShade Ardat: *wings twitch and she continues to eye him carefully part of her brain wanting to preen and flirt the rest of her thinking that isn't such a fine idea .. unsure why.* I .. see *shakes her head and mutters something in broken German at Demona* ouch! careful! ~Latonia de la Courtel~ Aveshar: *chuffs in amusement and drifts closer to listen to the strange language, ears swiveling in interest* Do you? Most fortunate. So then... What brings you to this place? Devil NightShade Ardat: *suddenly seems to notice he's closer and blinks, flicks her ears trying to deicde if she should be honest and finally just shrugs her wings* I'm seeking herbs for my mother. ~Latonia de la Courtel~ Aveshar: *feels a frisson of surprise pass over his expression, as he honestly didn't think she'd answer... and he didn't expect the response when she did* Ah, interesting... *he rumbled curiously* Which herbs... And for what purpose? Devil NightShade Ardat: *almost an ashamed look for a moment* Well, Demona knows more about them than I do .. I didn't pay much attention to my father when he was teaching my brothers and I about them. *curls her tail* My mother is very sick, so I'm trying to help. *stretches her wings* I'm afraid I'm not very good at this herb finding. ~Latonia de la Courtel~ Aveshar: *frowns, making a low understanding sound* Herb-craft is a difficult thing to master without the proper interest and motivation. It was not my favorite, though some things I do still retain. *eyes the rodent for a moment, assuming this is Demona* If you can tell me, I may be able to lend aid. Then again, there is a Shaman woman in my debt that may offer aid... And I know a unicorn or three that could be properly motivated? *he had no idea why he was offering, but there it was* Devil NightShade Ardat: *listens quietly for a moment and seems to think* Well, we're not sure what is wrong with her, ever since myself and my siblings were born she has been .. lethargic .. sleeping a lot and such. We're from a proud lineage though *tosses her head for a moment, obviously proud of this fact* and she's very proud though and it wasn't only until recently that any one realized something was wrong as she's dropping weight and won't eat. ~Latonia de la Courtel~ Aveshar: *frowns and considers for several moments* That may be, an affliction of the heart rather than the body. *he eventually stated* Might I ask whom your mother is? If she has friends or companions that would, entertain her if they were to visit? Devil NightShade Ardat: *her head cocked to the side as she seemed to consider his suggestion* affliction of the heart? Doesn't seem like something that would affect mum very much. *she straightened when he asked whom her mother was, couldn't huurt to tell him right? Right!* Maquerade, I'm the first born daughter of her and her mate Beelzebub *she involuntarily arched proudly* Visitors? *she twitched he wings* Most outside family don't come into our little swamp, ~Latonia de la Courtel~ Aveshar: Everyone I've ever met has a heart... Which means that even if it is tough, it can be injured. *gives a faint shrug, and then actually laughs as he sees her draw up, pride in every line of her... yes, that was familiar* Masquerade, of course... She is, an old acquaintance of mine. If you think you could tolerate showing me the way, I would not mind a visit. Devil NightShade Ardat: *she watched him for a moment mulling it in her mind, he claims to know mum? Well, if such was untrue she'd find out quickly enough* Alright, but be wary, the way is treacherous, and my footsteps should be followed exactly. *she spun quickly and trotted away, even as she moved the little mouse scurried pulling the long mane up and draping it over her back so it didn't drag*

Aveshar remained stone still, unflinching under her examination. He remembered enough of Masquerade to know when he was being sized up for weakness, and he left nothing for the mare to find. Either she would think he passed, or not. He could wait it out.
When she agreed he gave a faint nod, willing to hazard a guess that she would let Masque destroy him if it turned out he was lying. He wasn't thank the stars, but if Masque shook off whatever was bothering her to chase him about the swamp, he'd consider it a job well done. The thought of her ill was, unsettling. But he'd solve this soon enough.
"I understand." He offered, when she agreed. "I've not traveled this path before, I have no problem following your lead."
Letting her get a bit of a head start, he paced after, wings folded to his back. Watching the mouse move up to her back and take charge of her trailing mane, he gave a faint smile and a shake of his head. One saw something new every day, he supposed.

Ardat trotted along, as they drew nearer to the swamps the ground got softened and seemed to be trying to drag their hooves down and swallow them into the earth. Her mane was now perfectly braided and laying across her shoulders to hang down behind folded wings. Demona had scuttled along and now sat on her rump, starring questionably between Aveshar, the ground, and his own long mane. She tilted her head, chattering loudly and wiggling her whiskers. She placed every hoof purposefully pressing in enough to leave small prints so that the stallion behind her could place his hooves in the exact place. At one point she paused, her hoof hoovering in the ear, she seemed almost unsure. Slowly she lowered it, and nudged a rock it rolled a few inches then started to sink in quicksand. "Caution, this pool seems to be growing, I'll have to let father know." She inched farther to the side and slowly bypassed the quicksand.

It was easier to follow in silence than to speak, especially when he had little to say. Aveshar was not the most talkative of companions, especially around those he was not well-versed with. With Masque, or Morana, or even many of the others he had crossed paths with perhaps his choice would be different. But with Ardat he followed in silence, an eye on the path she cut through the swiftly-softening ground.
At the abrupt inquiry of the mouse, the stallion's head flipped back around, his ears swiveling toward the noise. He tilted his head at her, questioning the outburst wordlessly. When she didn't seem inclined to elaborate, he glanced at her mistress's mane and then rolled an eye to consider the curling tumble that spilled to his hooves. He gave a rumbling laugh at the thought. "I am afraid if you are volunteering to do me the same courtesy, it may be a bit more trouble than your usual task."
He noted the careful tracks and dutifully fitted his hooves to the mark, following her like a deepening shadow. His own steps were larger than hers, obliterating her careful marks with his larger and deeper tracks.
When she hesitated he craned his head around to watch the gesture, ears flipping forward in surprise at the disappearance of the stone. With a flip of his tail he gave a faint nod. "It is, concerning, to say the least."
He took care to avoid the quicksand when they moved on. With his bulk, he was relatively certain to sink quickly if he mis-stepped. The idea was unappealing, to say the least. "Do you lose many visitors to your creeping pools?"

""The mare didn't seem to mind the silence, her every sense seemed to be focused on the task at hand, weaving them safely through the traps that dotted the way into her home. Demona let out a snort, that sounded more like a high pitched squeak mixed with a sneeze and rolled her black eyes, 'No' didn't seem to be an answer she would accept. With a wiggle of her tail and a scampering leap, she landed on the stallion's face and darted up, working from his ears back deft paws gently worked through any tangles and cleaned away any debris. Her work was slower on him, but she seemed to be taking much care not to pull or yank. A small ear twitched back when the stallion spoke and Ardat shrugged a wing "You could say that, but most of the time our ... guests .. don't tend to leave anyway." She tilted her head, giving him a brilliant pearly fanged grin. They had traveled a ways now, and the ground was becoming slightly firmer, the trees closing in on them and the shadows encroaching. There was a smell of boggy water nearby, Ardat paused lifting her muzzle to sniff at the stale air ears swinging this way and that . "No Typhoid ... uncle MIGHT be nearby ... or he could have rubbed against a tree." She gave the air a few more deep sniffs and moved ahead. (I did forget Enya is part of the family group and might show up)She paused a moment, using the spade of her tail to scratch at her neck then plowed on ahead, her steps less meticulous, the danger seemingly gone for the most part.

The sudden presence of the mouse on his face made Aveshar pause mid-stride,titling his head to ensure she didn't slide right off his muzzle. As soon as she seemed to be out of danger around his forelock, he resumed his pace. He couldn't help the faint smile that crossed over his expression, amusement building in his chest. When she began working on binding his mane and prying free the twigs, he took what care he was able to ensure he did not jostle her.
"Thank you, little one." He murmured to the familiar.
With one eye fixed on the mare ahead of him and her careful steps, Aveshar let some of his attention drift. He noted the stooping trees, nostrils flaring to catch the scent of rotting plant matter and mud, fresh-dirt and water. The soft-suction of their hooves in the damp earth faded as their path turned to solid (or at least sturdier) ground.
He gave Ardat an amused, and somewhat approving, grin when she flashedh her fangs back at him. "That I am not surprised to hear... Though I would hope it is only the unwelcome guests that find themselves feeding your swamp."
Aveshar did not recall meeting Typhoid, or speaking to him in any great depth previously, though there was a chance they had crossed paths. Regardless he moved with some care to his surroundings. "I would hope he would let me complete our errand and speak to your mother... Before he takes exception to my presence and decides to drown me."
He noted her more fluid strides and let his own pace imitate it, his wings flaring and tail lashing from side to side idly.

""The little mouse chattered at the stallion as she worked nimbly, climbing all over up and down his neck working with a steady easy rhythm. Ardat looked back at him and smirked "as long as you don't do anything to get yourself deemed unwelcome you should be fine, especially if you know mom." She flicked her wings, stretching and relaxing them a moment to work out a kink. "Typhoid? He's harmless if Enyalius is around" she snickered as if it was some inside joke. She paused a moment, testing the air; in front of them was a seeming wall of trees and shrubs. With expert care, she found a small patch and was able to pull it aside, like a door a large woven patch of foliage came out, leaving a whole easily big enough for her. It was possibly a slight squeeze for Ave but it seemed the only way into the glade that could be glimpsed behind it. She grinned wickedly at him "well, nobody else seems to be home ... so when you're ready!"~Latonia de la Courtel~ Sooooooo sorry this took me so long T .T

Perhaps it was a leftover habit from having foals, but Aveshar made sure to rumble understandingly here and there, in between the mouse's little chatters and squeaks. Now and again he thought he might detect a note of disapproval, as if she wondered how he'd made such a mess of himself, and it made him laugh softly as he wound his way through the dark woods.
"I will certainly endeavor not to." He returned, eyes glinting at the mare's smirk. "I well remember a certain lady's wrath, and I cannot expect that her family would do anything less... Besides, foolishness is not one of my character traits."
"How.. reassuring." Glowing eyes narrowed at the snicker, Aveshar holding back a sigh. The amusement was clearly not meant to be understood by him, as an outsider, but neither of the two she mentioned were friends to him... So he would not wonder about what may or may not be, simply mind himself and trust that the rest would play out as it should. That was the only rational course of action.
His ears flicked forward at the sudden reveal of the narrow pathway, and he could see a glimpse of the glade beyond. The ground did look reasonably solid, though the portal itself seemed a bit narrow. He'd get a scrape or two for his trouble, but nothing so indecent as getting stuck. And since she was holding the door, it appeared he was expected to go on.
"Well that's too bad, I was looking forward to meeting your clan." He murmured, grinning faintly as he noticed her wicked amusement. "Me first then? Well, I thank you for showing me the way."
With a half-unfurl of his wings to keep them up off of his sides, Aveshar ducked his head and stepped toward the opening. Once his head was through, he sifted his wings and winced at the bite-scratch of greenery down his sides and hindquarters. A bit of a tug and shift and he was through, lashing his tail as he straightened and waited for his escort.

"Alas most of them seem to be gone for a while, maybe Uncle Enya will show ... he understands some things better than I." She nudged the makeshift door into place, and turned around. "Home sweet swampy home!" She stretched, seeming to relax in her surroundings. They stepped into a large clearing trees towered overhead long branches stretched out to make a thick roof. At one corner a fetid pound, eased out into a larger swampy lake or river, erosion clearly showed something used it as an inlet into the clearing. Other than that it was fairly unassuming and tidy place, hard to tell that a family of kalona and other carnivores. There seemed to be clear openings into other areas, probably where various family member's slept. She drifted towards a much larger door like opening in the thick wall of brush, a cultivated rose bush grew nearby, vines with wicked thorns, twisting up and over as an archway. She stopped at the edge of the door way, and stared into the shadows. "Mom and dad's personal area is past there ..." if one listened closely you could almost here the break in her voice when she spoke again "... I don't think I can go in there." She took a slight step back, her ears were back, and her whole body was tense and tight like she was about to fall into a fit of hysterics. Demona hopped down from the stallion and darted over to her mistress, crawling up unto the mare's head she chittered and coo'd to the filly whom was quickly back peddling.

Aveshar had crossed paths here and there with Enyalius, and was well aware that he was formidable enough to do his mother proud. As such, he held a certain regard for the stallion and would be sure to act with appropriate caution around him. If his mother or some of the other females of the family were about, Aveshar was fairly certain there would be no issue. He was, after all, only here to visit a friend... And he rather doubted Enya would begrudge him that, no matter how vaguely they knew of each other.
Friendship with other stallions had never been Aveshar's best thing.
"Things?" Aveshar echoed in vague interest, his silver eyes searching the main clearing as he waited for her to follow.
Left alone to his devices he admired the high trees and the solitude of the area. It was certainly off the beaten path but clean and gave no indication of how many or few called this place home. That was appealing in its own right, the anonymity of their numbers and potential strength they so easily disguised.
Letting his gaze drift onward, Aveshar couldn't help but focus his attention on the pond. He eyed the still stagnant water that indicated it was not for drinking before his eyes were drawn to the furrows in the mud. Furrows like steps or slogging strides, marks that spoke of traffic. So then, perhaps Keshani's tales of a monster in the swamp were not just foalish misunderstanding... And perhaps, in her own way, his old friend had her family looking out for his.
It was an intriguing idea, in any case. He would have to mention it to her. With Ardat at his side again he returned his attention to the task at hand, frowning at the fear that washed over here when she gestured toward his goal. She did not want to, or could not stand to, go there. Her lack of escort did not trouble him, but her reaction did.... As did her familiar's reaction to it and the mouse's abrupt departure from him as she sought to soothe the young mare.
"Alright." He rumbled, taking care that his voice was low and soothing. "I am sure it would not make the best impression to have you escort me in there, in any case. I do sincerely thank you for your services as a guide, and the company of your friend as well. But if it is all the same to you, I will proceed on my own to greet your mother. Will you be well enough, out here?"
If she wanted to leave rather than get any closer, he couldn't blame her (wouldn't blame her)... But it would be nice to know if she would be gone when he emerged. . Devil NightShade They not wanting to cooperate?!

She nodded her small head "Yea, he seems to understand herbs a little better than me, and sooometimes he can get mom to eat. " "I uhm .. I'll find a way to keep myself occupied out here .. could hunt around for some more herbs or .. something." She had moved some distance away now, there was a tornado of emotions drifting across her face and lighting up the golden eyes, but the two main culprits seemed to be guilt and shame. She whispered something to Demona, whom was chattering wildly now, and quickly darted away, leaving him to go it alone into the archway and whatever lay behind it. ~Latonia de la Courtel~ *kicks her muse* Sorry tis short, wasn't to sure how to leave it off for her xDD
