Hmm. It happened again. Korra stood in the middle of the forest her gaze looking back and forth wondering just how she managed to lose her Ma Ta all over again. Usually the shifter clung to Korra's hand like life itself depended on it. He knew how easily she could get lost, and she had only let go of his hand a moment and somehow her feet carried her away from him. So now she was alone, she couldn't even hear Takoda's frantic calling of her name that was how far she managed to get from him.

So where was she?

Looking up she noted many tree's, looking down she noticed lots of plants and rocks...tilting her head she could hear many sounds but non of them were that familiar. Well then. Now she would need to try and find her Ma Ta again or at least the right way back to Pa Jac. Rubbing her chin she picked a direction (although the wrong one) and started off.

Mirin was back from Zena and hopping around the jungle's trees at breakneck speed. Fast seemed to be the only speed she traveled when in the trees, though it mostly led to a bunch of bumps and bruises when she couldn't stop herself, or ended up tripping. She didn't plan to do either today.

She balanced precariously on a branch and looked down at the girl beneath her. She didn't look like she belonged here. And the look on her face said she needed help. Mirin could do that! She liked to think she was really good at helping people. She even saved radaku once with that one boy.

She shimmied her way down the tree trunk, scraping her palms on the last couple of feet and dropped to the floor with a thunk. "Hey! What are you doing down here?" She called out, rushing up to the girl in a bouncing run.

The sound of the voice was enough to cause the young girl to jump on the spot, she half turned as she didn't recognize the voice but was surprised to see a smll shifter girl bounding rather quickly up to her. Looking back up into the tree's she wondered for a brief moment if shifter children were born in them.

"Down here? I am looking for my Ma Ta, or home...either or. Ma Ta is use to be getting lost so I was hoping to save him from worrying and get home myself. " Korra explained with a slight tilt of her head before she noted the girls scrapped up hands and feet.

"Were did you come from?" She inquired now very curious if her theory was correct. If the trees in this forest did give birth to children why hadn't she seen them before?

Mirin looked at the girl in disbelief. Lost? She shook her head fiercely and put her hands on the girl's shoulders holding on. "Lost? Are you kidding me? Why would you do something like that?"

She looked the girl over twice, pushing and pulling her around trying to find out if she was hurt before continuing on. "You're lucky you're not hurt! Or worse: killed! Jauhar is dangerous, doncha know? It's a good thing I found you." Miring sighed in relief. She was going to save this girl, she thought to herself with determination.

Mirin was brought to an abrupt halt at the girl's question. "Where did I come from?" She moved her hands to the girl's head, still trying to find some sort of wound that would explain this weird girl. "You're not hurt... what do you mean where did I come from? I just climbed down from the trees."

Korra gave the young girl a slightly surprised look as her hands came to her shoulders and she went on asking her questions and then explaining how the forest was really dangerous. Blinking she looked around again and the pondered the girls words a moment.

"First I don't get lost on purpose...I am just...not great with direction." She explained as she returned her glance to the shifter girl. Then looked up as the girls hand came to her head as if she was trying to sooth her.

"The trees? Wow, I just walk along the ground you must be really agile to climb about on trees." She complimented the girl before she giggled,

"My name is Korra, are you going to help me find my Ma Ta? He is a shifter like you."

Mirin looked at the girl her brows furrowed in confusion before she slowly released the girl's head. Not great with direction? How did this girl get anywhere like that? She pushed her hands onto her hips and tilted her head. "Everyone here can do it. I'm just better at it." She grinned and puffed out her chest. She had no problem telling it like it is, and that was that the other kids her age didn't come close to being as good.

"Name's Mirin." She held out her hand, but this time to shake rather than put a grip on the girl like she had at first. "Your... Ma... is a boy?" It was interesting to think that a Mom could be a guy. Everyone she knew had girl moms. She shrugged her shoulders. "If I left you now you might get hurt out here. I can't do that, so I have to help you find him." She grinned.

Korra took a moment to look at the girls offered hand before finally reaching out and giving it a shake. So her name was Mirin? Pretty name. Korra was beginning to,really like this girl, sure she was a bit loud but she was friendly and concerned with her wellfare.

"Well my real mama died in a fire, same with papa. My new mama is a man named Takoda and my new papa is a man named Jacinthus." Stumbling over a few syllables in Jac's name she gave a giggle. "Ma Ta is a shifter like you!" She continued with a nod of her head and then she realized she was still shaking Mirin's had but had yet to let go.

So accustomed to having her hand held she didn't let get of Mirin either. "So you live in the forest? I've been in here before but that's when Ma Ta found me the first time. I was lost then as well."

Mirin nodded her head while the girl talked like she understood completely. It was sad to lose family, but Mirin didn't even know what that would feel like since she still had everyone and her three brothers.

Mirin laughed at the wind girl's predicament. "You sound like you get lost all the time to me." She patted the girl's hand. "Good thing I'm here, right?" She was proud that she could help the girl out now. "I live in the trees with my family. I have a normal girl mom." She threw in for good measure, though it was probably easy to figure out since Mirin was so surprised to begin with.

"I think I should take you home and keep you safe until your Ma Ta can find you. It would be better that way and you won't be in trouble." Mirin nodded her head, her idea a good one in her mind.

Giving another giggle and happy that Mirin allowed her to continue holding her hand she gave a slight tilt of her head when it was proclaimed that she go home with the girl until she was found. Would that work? Or would she just end up having another family and yet again a new mother and father?

"Ma Ta says I do get lost a lot, but if I go home with you how will my ma find me? Maybe it's better if I stay here on the ground." Korra managed with a sage nod, completely oblivious to the perils of staying on the ground in the forests of Jahaur. All those scary predators had yet to reveal their faces to her, so the younglings was rather ignorant to her own safety. That or she was ridiculously positive for a girl her age.

"You can stay with me! Tell me what it's like living in the trees all the time. Back home our house is in the trees but that's it. I don't climb them very much. Is it hard? I bet your really good at it!"

Mirin raised an eyebrow at Korra. Did she not know how dangerous it was out here? Even the babies were told not to wander on the ground. Mirin remembered knowing it when she was just two. "Well, if you're not gonna come home with me, then we should at least sit in a tree. I can't protect you from down here." She said, trying to be stern.

She started to tug the girl toward the nearest tree when she heard Korra's next questions. "You don't climb them?" That put a stopper in her whole climb up tree idea. Maybe she could just be really careful with Korra on the ground... or they could try anyways. "It's only hard for beginners. I'm really good at it now." She boasted. "But I think you should try. And then I can tell you all about living in the trees."

She was all ready and set to tell stories. She loved getting all excited for them, but she wasn't ready to be caught with a girl who didn't know how to climb when a radaku came by.

Korra at least wasn't a very timid girl. She liked learning new things as well traveling (although that was often just her getting lost...a lot.) so Korra was pretty easy going, she didn't sweat the little stuff though perhaps she could blame the navitity of danger to her being a child.

"You will teach me?" Korra asked sounding very eager to learn, happily squeezing Mirin's hand before reluctantly pulling her hand away. After all you couldn't climb a tree while holding hands....that much she was pretty sure about.

Clapping her hands together she was now very excited to learn about living in the trees. yes they had a tree house but only Ma Ta ever walked along the branches for leaves or other things. "I am so excited! I can't wait to hear your stories!" Korra continued pointing at a random tree that happened to be on he shorter side. " are we going to climb that one?"

Mirin looked up at the tree that Korra pointed out. It was a little too short. "How about that one?" Mirin pointed out one that she was sure that Korra and her would be safe in until her Ma Ta came and found her. "That one has some low branches so it'll be easier. And it'll be easier to teach you."

She led Korra to the tree in question, grabbing her hand to lead one more time before letting go at the base. "Ok, so you just have to have a good hold... and you put your feet in the cracks of the bark. When you get to a branch, take a break and look where you're gonna go next." Mirin took a couple of footholds up the tree to she her before climbing back down. "You go so I can watch. Just go to that branch." She pointed to one that was three branches up but way out of the way of a radaku for sure.

Trusting that Mirin knew what she was talking about Korra followed without protest. Still clutching the young girls hand until they came to the point where Mirin had to teach her to climb. Letting go she put both of her hands behind her back as she watched in child like awe as Mirin gave a example on how to climb upwards.

"Wow! Your like a little poscutta! so fast!" She managed the compliment with a large sincere smile, she then looked back to the tree before cocking her head at it before moving over to the tree and trying to pick out the hand holds Mirin had used. The first one was obvious it was the next ones that had her scrambling with her feet and hands trying to stay on the tree. In the end she ended up hugging the tree with all her might and only a few feet off the ground with her eyes tightly shut.

"Did I get up?" She asked as her eyes were still closed.

Yes...I agree we need them to hold hands forever

Mirin watched Korra skitter and flail on the tree before stopping short of any branch in front of her. “Ummm… no. Not really.” She moved around the trunk to look up at Korra’s face. What was she doing with her eyes shut? Mirin sighed and put her fists on her hips.

“I think it would help if you opened your eyes. You need to watch where you’re going if you’re gonna make it up there at all.” She grabbed onto the rough bark and moved up the trunk the small space between Korra and the floor. “I can help you up.” It would be harder than her just getting up there, but it would work if they went slow.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Korra's eyes immediately blinked open as Mirin pointed out that she would need to be able to see. RIght that would make the most sense, after all how could she spot where her hands and feed needed to go? Giving a small laught the little girl looked down to where Mirin was, or rather...had been. Confused she didn't realize that the spry little shifter girl had already climbed the tree with such speed that she was not only on the tree but above her.
Looking up she gave a wide eye'd expression of admiration before she broke into a huge smile. "WOW MIRIN YOUR AMAZING!" She shouted, perhaps a combination of nervouness and actually excitment from trying to scale a tree. Of course shouting wasn't exactly the smartest thing to do in the forest's of Jahaur where there were a large number of predators who wanted to chew on your bones.
Though she was curious how Mirin was going to help her, still she now had her eyes open so things should be easier right? Looking about she realized she had scaled this far but hadn't actually any clue on how she had managed it. The sheer fact she was still on the tree was a blessing of itsself. "Uh...Mirin I think I'm stuck.."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mirin flinched at the very loud, very excited voice that Korra was using. But smiled back. And then laughed. This little girl was her age and seemed to know nothing about living in a forest. What did they even do where she was from? Because it sure wasn’t anything that they were doing now. It must be a super safe place if Korra wasn’t worried about being on the floor.

And then Korra went quiet… and… she was stuck? “How’d you get stuck?” Mirin Looked down at the little wind girl and tried to see what was happening. She wasn’t physically stuck… did she just not know where to go next. “Here, see this…” Mirin stuck out her foot and touched a patch of rough bark above Korra’s hand, her face knotted in concentration. “Use this one.” Mirin waited for Korra to comply before continuing in step by step instructions on where to hold and how to get to the branch Mirin was aiming for before they finally reached their safe place. By the time they had sat down Mirin was more tired from stretching and pointing than she thought she could ever be from climbing trees. “Ahhh good, we’re here.” She slumped against the trunk and tilted her head to look at Mirin. “You made it. Now I can keep you safe!”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looking up the little blonde girl studied the spot that Mirin had tapped with her foot. Oh! The shifter girl was of course correct. How silly of Korra to think she was stuck. Giving a giggle she tried to follow Mirin up the tree, no longer hindered by having her eyes closed it was much easier to get up there, although she didn't have an ounce of grace that Mirin had when it came to climbing. Once up she was a bit scuffed up and breathing as if she had just finished a marathon. Sitting beside Mirin she noticed the other girl looked weary as well, it had been so very kind of her to show her the way up though!
"Your the BEST Mirin!" Korra proclaimed as she threw her arms around the darker skinned girl. "Ma Ta can climb tree's like you but I think he is too worried about me falling and my Papa Jac is from the leaf tribe...he doesn't really climb like you guys do. " She explained still clinging to her new BEST FRIEND like her life depended on it. Now they were up there though, what exactly was Mirin keeping her safe from?
"Mirin...? What are you keeping me safe from?" She inquired quite ignorantly, even if her Ma Ta lectured her all the time about staying close and not to wander due to the dangers of the forest he hadn't...exactly told her what she needed to be careful of.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mirin let out an “Oof” as Korra threw herself around the little shifter. She returned the hug and let herself relax now that she wasn’t worried about what could have happend on the floor if Korra hadn’t have climbed with her. “Leaf earthling? Your Papa is leaf? But you don’t look leaf.” She tapped on her chin and tried to wrap her brain around the information before Korra asked her next question.

“You really don’t know what’s out there?” Mirin's eyes widened. It was a really good thing Mirin came and found her. She was helpless. “Jauhar has all sorts of animals that can hurt you.” She leaned in to whisper. “Not to mention the bug ladies.” Her parents always warned her that the bug ladies in Jauhar weren’t nice and most didn’t want to play or get to know shifters. They wanted all the shifters gone.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Korra tilted her head at the comment, right she wasn't leaf or shifter she was of the wind tribe. Before she had come all this way she had other parents who had died in a fire. Though one should be sad about such things this little girl didn't let it bother her. Of course she had completely forgotten that she had intended upon leaving the orphanage to go looking for her cousin.
"Oh that's cause I am not. My mama and papa originally were wind. But they died, and Ma Ta and Papa Jac found me." She explained perhaps a bit too the point, she didn't seem troubeled by it though. Swinging her legs as she observe this entirely new perspective of the forest she observed how everything looked so tiny on the ground, even though they weren't really that high it still made her giggle. "Nope! Ma Ta often tells me I need to be careful, but I don't know why." Korra stated with a short nod of her head, though she gave Mirin an interesting look as she stated animals, "my cousin Aysun has a LOT of animals. Like those ones? I mean I am not afriad of those animals...maybe his new pet..he got some weird beast called a...ja...jan..rim? I think that's what its called. Its kinda scary looking. " Korra rambeled though it was the mention of bug ladies that really made her go quiet.
"Ehhh?? Bug ....ladies? Like like..." The poor girl was trying to come up with a mental picture of what exactly a bug woman would look like. It was not very pretty and she gave a bit of a shiver. "They ..d..do sound scary. How can I avoid them finding me?" For once Korra actually sounded a bit scared at the prospect of being found by one of these women.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mirin nodded her head, her arms crossed against her chest as the information of real danger finally seemed to reach the girl. “Well I don’t know what kind of animals your Aysun has, but animals in the forest aren’t friendly. And there’s a super big, super scary kind of spider that climbs around in here. So avoid those at all cost.” Korra gave a face at the thought of the bug women. “They can be. I haven’t met a bug lady yet - they call them Alkidike - but if they’re as mean as my momma says I’m not gonna go look for them.”

Korra tapped on her chin in thought. She didn’t exactly know how to avoid the bug ladies. She just had never seen one in her wandering of the jungle. “Well… I’m not sure how to avoid them. Momma says they live on the floor. So I guess that means it’s much better to be in the trees where they don’t go.” Mirin grabbed the little wind girl’s hand. “But we’re safe right here. I’m gonna keep you safe until your Ma Ta comes." It was like the words had just left her mouth when she heard the sounds of a male voice in the forest on the floor calling out Korra's name. "I guess that's him?"

When the shifter male came into view Mirin signaled into the tree, calling out to Takoda and helping Korra get down safely. With the wave they were gone, but she hoped she would see the wind girl again some day. Miring was proud to have kept her safe while she could.
