PROFILE
Name: Ruby Chat Alias: N/A Age: 10 Gender: Female Powers: Empathy Aura: red (ruby), high frequency, orange (peach)
She's a little girl with a lot of options, and Ruby has chosen to be as cute as a little girl can be. Ruby takes pride in primping and looking adorable, but most importantly emphasizes accessorizing as the icing on the cake. From hearts at Valentine's Day to Snowflakes in Winter, she tries to match every occasion. If you like something of hers, tell her because that will actually elicit an exceptionally happy response.
Personality: Ruby looks like your typical ten year old girl with a sweet, welcoming façade that may draw in even the least amicable of people; however, interacting with her for the first time can leave you feeling like you were shoved into a pool of ice water. Most often, Ruby behaves like a cold shouldered brat to her peers and ends up pushing people away. She's stubborn to the bone and thinks her way is always right, leading her to be independent when she can (about as independent as a ten year old can be anyway). Rest assured she can certainly act charming when she needs to be, but she doesn't often actually believe she needs to.
Those able to bear the ice queen and chip past her exterior will find a little girl that is not quite as mean or self-reliant as she portrays herself. She's just like any other kid and loves sweets, cute things, or god forbid some fun. Ruby can actually be quite a loyal and reliable friend as well, but this is of course something she is not aware of herself. Befriending others is what a lot of kids can do best; unfortunately, Ruby hasn't come to terms with her Empathy and purposely tries to have little connection with others.

FAMILY/HISTORY
History: Ruby's parents, Booker and Lisa Chat, are the founders of Chat's Chat for Fat Cats (C²FC), an online chat site for fat cats. No, it's not a dating site for the questionably wealthy and powerful. It's for actual fat cats; and interestingly enough, it shot off as a big hit, netting the Chats a fine business. Some may say it was the mascot, Butter Chat, the family's fat calico cat, that brought C²FC its popularity, but maybe it was just the public's strange obsession with cats too. Regardless, since starting their booming baby of a business, they've had a harder time finding ways to stay active in their own babies' lives. Though they're not quite "babies" anymore.
Jermaine and Ruby chat had a happy childhood, save for hardly having time with their busy parents. Mostly raised by a cheery, loving nanny for a few years (until Jermaine was fifteen and "old enough" to take care of both himself and his then six year old sister), the two grew up without their parents there as frequently as others', but not without their love. Oh yes, Ruby's parents loved her and her brother, but they just couldn't find the time to pull away from the work needed to keep C²FC on the road to success. Consequently, Jermaine and Ruby are relatively close.
When Ruby's power began to manifest, it was sporadic and didn't garner much attention at first. For example, one afternoon, Jermaine had been making dinner for Ruby and himself. When she came to the table and found a sandwich (for the fourth time that week) she complained and asked for something, anything else. Jermaine smiled and Ruby he would happily make mac and cheese instead, but when he turned around and rolled his eyes, she exclaimed that if he was going to be mad about it she would just eat the sandwich. He turned around and assured her he wasn't angry, but she said she knew he was lying. At first, he didn't think anything of it. It wasn't until it happened a few more times and she got in trouble at school for telling other kids the teacher was happy when Robert, the most annoying kid in class, fell and skinned his knee; all regardless of her sad and pitying façade.
Jermaine brought the events and his suspicion of her ability to his parents' attention. They had little knowledge of psychics, but as a young man entertained by anything strange, Jermaine had come across it a few times in discussion among peers and word of random conspiracies that floated about from time to time. At this point, Booker and Lisa Chat had to pause and give Ruby the attention that she needed. With a little more research, they decided Murmuring Pines Psychic Summer Camp was the answer.
When they delivered the news to Ruby, she was less than excited. It meant that she would absolutely be away from her parents, but even worse, without her brother as well. No matter how much she protested, they were certain this would be best for her. Ruby's parents were so happy; even proud their daughter was "gifted." She didn't know what was worse: having to leave or not finding any sadness in her parents when they told her she was leaving. At that point, she could tell Booker was sad she would be away despite him acting completely happy for her, but her parents were just utterly joyful; as a result, Ruby began to resent her power of empathy.
