Name: Aderyn
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Rank: Dragon Candidate
Appearance: IMAGE
Personality:
Aderyn has some hidden family issues beneath her calm facade. While growing up being her mother's favorite as she was the first girl, it wasn't just her mother's approval she wanted. She always stood in the shadow of her two older brothers to her father, she might as well not have existed. She knew her oldest brother resented her for taking their mother's attention away from him, but she couldn't help it. In all honesty, she'd trade all the attention in the world for a good relationship with all of her family. While she is the object of Aedelric's resentment, their other brother was the object of Aderyn's. He was a big shadow to get out of, and she unfortunately never achieved it.
She is generally soft spoken, always careful of her words as her mother had always taught her. She tries to live up to this image of the "perfect woman" that her mother tried to model her to be, her hair always perfectly done and she strives to perfection with herself very meticulously. Because of this, her inner thoughts show more through her actions than she'd like sometimes, as all those years of striving to be perfect cause a lot of that resentment and anger to boil. She may have a tad bit of anger issues, though the only one who had ever been on the receiving end was her younger sister, whom she adores for letting her let off her steam to her.
While she's a perfectionist with everything about herself, this isn't so with the things she does. She had grown used to be eclipsed by her brother, so why put in the extra effort if it won't achieve anything? She'll do just enough to get the job done. However, if she were to find someone who would push her, and not let her slack off, that complacency may fade. Aderyn most likely won't go out of her way to help anyone with one exception. If someone is hurt, or could get hurt if not helped, Aderyn will put what she has into it. As lazy as she can be sometimes, seeing people hurt is one thing she just can't handle.
Aderyn has a good heart, a good conscious, and good intentions, she just hardly listens to them and has sort of resigned herself to always being in someone's shadow.
History:
Born Turn 187
Searched Turn 2
Aedelric: 27
Brother: 18
Sister: 12
With a mother who wanted the whole world for her, an eldest brother who resented her, another brother who's shadow she stood in, and a father who barely knew she existed, Aderyn didn't seem like she'd really have a lot to complain about, nor would she openly complain. She was pampered by her mother from a very early age, not so much after her younger sister was born, but she was the eldest and therefore her mother always doted on her. This was the cause of A'ric's resentment, of course, but she wasn't without her own.
When her brother was searched, it was an interesting time for the family. A period of adjusting in a way. As Aderyn hadn't really been close with A'ric, she didn't really miss him. In a way, the reason she knew he wasn't there was there was no one scowling at her all the time. Sure, she thought it was neat that he was going to go impress a dragon that was supposed to be a bond deeper than marriage but he had to leave home. Okay well maybe the leaving home part wasn't so bad. Really, though, A'ric's presence at home wasn't missed by Aderyn.
It was when she turned 14, her ambitious father had been not so subtly nudged by a colleague who's son had taken a liking to Aderyn (even though she didn't know the other existed) and Aderyn's father soon started looking for a husband for his eldest. But having someone of the same status wouldn't do him any good, no, he had to fetch the highest status he could for his daughter, or rather, himself. Some would frown at him for thinking he's of higher station than he is, but he strove for as much power and connections as he could get. Fortunately, her mother intervened long enough on her behalf as one person wasn't handsome enough, or wealthy enough, among many other reasons. She stalled long enough for her to be searched at the age 15 for Gold Cinnamath's clutch.
Aderyn was happy for the change in scenery, though not as happy as A'ric had been. The hardest part was cutting off her hair. The second hardest was being away from her younger sister. She adjusted though, she's managed to make a few friends, but Aderyn wouldn't say they're close. She's honestly not certain if she'd make a good dragonrider or not, but figures if her eldest brother can do it, she can too!
As a candidate → weyrling, especially a weyrling, she'll seem much more flustered and less put together, and she can't wait until she can let her hair grow out again.
