User ImageLike most young foals, Starlight was curious and adventurous, unable to be put down or detoured by near anything. The filly was always in the thick of trouble, always causing some kind of mischief or finding some new way to entertain herself. She had already come to the conclusion that she hated winter, she hated the cold and the damp, she hated the illness that it brought with it and the way is stole all life from the land. Never the less she had to admit that snow and ice were fun in small doses. You could skid across lakes, draw pictures in the ground or jump from height into the soft winter cushion bellow. Today after what seemed like a lifetime, finally recovered from her illness, the filly found herself at play.

Starlight found herself by the frozen lake once more. The cracks that her and her brother had caused all those weeks ago had healed and now the surface was once again solid. She looked out at the land on the other side, this was the furthest from home she had ever been and the lure of the forest was calling her in, it was just out of reach, just across this lake. Though she knew she could not go there, not until the time came in which she would leave her mother and her family. With every month she grew taller - and she knew that time was getting closer at a speed she never expected or imagined. The life of a foal was short lived and forever fleeting, previous and gone too quickly.

Starlight shook her head, as if to shake out these alien idea's of marehood. Her mane stoked against her shoulders, getting ever longer. She was going to have her fathers hair, she was sure of it. Starlight turned around as if to head back home, only to see something bouncing around in the snow. She paused, tilted her head and put her nose to the ground. What was that? A creature? A small one if that was the case, no bigger than a hedgehog... She pushed her nose into the snow and started to sniff and dig.

She was sure she just saw something.

He was getting too old for this type of weather. Or that's what it felt like. His traveling had been put on hold due to snowstorms and just downright chill air. Maybe he was just getting older. Sandsablaze snorted at himself for thinking that! He was not old! Not yet anyways. Perhaps this was just how all fathers eventually began to feel? Watching their children grow. Feeling their muscles ache. Why did it have to be snow?! "I miss the desert already." He muttered, breath huffing out warmly.

Laughter met this, soft and chiming. "Perhaps we should have awaited spring!" Guide said cheerily from the branch he resided on. The golden owl had been scouting ahead, looking for a clearing. "Like I suggested earlier on." He added wryly.

Sandy swished his tail, trudging on through the snow. It was getting firmer. And his hooves didn't sink as much. "So you keep reminding me." He tossed his friend a smirk, ears swiveling forward as he noticed the treeline opening up. A few minutes later had him emerging from the forest, out onto a lake that was frozen over. The stallion paused, pawing gently to test the durability of the ice. Good enough, he thought. He walked out until he was clear of any branches. And then allowed himself a good shake to be rid of all the excess snow, leaves, and tree branches.

"Finally." He sighed, inhaling to crisp air and glancing skyward. It was nice to see the sun out.

Movement caught his eye that at first, he ignored, thinking it was merely Guide flying in a low circle. But the soft sounds of a large bird landing on a branch behind him confirmed this to be wrong. Looking ahead curiously, the stallion spotted... well, he wasn't sure what it was. But it was wiggling oddly. He said as much to Guide.

"Maybe you are getting old." He chimed. "And your eyesight is failing! That is a foal, my friend!"

"A foal?" Sandy frowned, looking about the clearing. No adults. Or other foals. Was the young one stuck? After a minutes debate, the stallion started forward. If the foal was stuck, he'd help them and then make sure they found their parents!
