Zinnia woke up in her bed feeling a little disoriented. Slowly, the memory of what had happened the day before sank in, and she rolled up in a fetal position, an unstoppable Cheshire grin threatening to split her head in half. She felt warm and complete and incredibly content. After all...

She had a girlfriend now.

It was strange to even think that; she hadn't dared to say it aloud. But the fact was that her best friend, Lenore, was now her girlfriend. They were dating. They were more than friends. No matter how she phrased it, the thought filled her chest with butterflies and made her feel overjoyed.

She reveled in the feeling, simply lying in bed while hugging her pillow and imagining the feeling of Lenore's hand in hers. As she daydreamed, her thoughts drifted toward the idea of kissing Lenore next. She blushed deeply and tried not to entertain those thoughts too much; she didn't want to do anything that would make her friend uncomfortable, after all.

Before she could become completely drunk on happiness, a thought occurred to Zin that brought her down from her high. She started to get a little worried. Now that they were officially dating... What were they supposed to do? She'd never had a girlfriend before, nor even a boyfriend. She had no guideline to follow. Surely they were supposed to act differently than they had before, when they had simply been friends. But different how?

Zin pondered the only source material she had, which consisted of the romantic sub-plots in her favorite action books. She'd never payed much attention to that before, as she hadn't had any interest in romance; it hadn't been pertinent in her life until recently. However, if she recalled correctly, they were supposed to go on dates. Sadly, Zin couldn't remember much about what one did on dates.

This is too complicated, she grumbled to herself. I bet Lenore doesn't know what we're s'posed to do, either. That was an encouraging thought. She didn't think that her friend had had any experiencing in dating, so they could be clueless together. That settled it for Zinnia.

We'll just do what feels right, she determined. If it's acting like normal, or k... kissing... She was soon swept off in another sea of daydreams.

"Ah, well," she sighed, rolling over and grinning like an idiot. There was no harm in imagining the possibilities!

As Zinnia went through the motions of getting ready for the day, her thoughts lingered on Lenore. She wanted to make her happy, as well as do what she expected them to do now that they were together. But she didn't know what Lenore was expecting; heck, she hadn't known what she was expecting herself, when she'd confessed. All she knew is that she wanted to hold Lenore's hand and spend as much time with her as possible.

She tried to settle her butterflies. She and Lenore would never get anywhere if they were both too nervous to even look at each other. She was a soldier, wasn't she? She was going to defend all of mankind, right? She could do something as simple as talk to her best friend without getting flustered. She took some deep breaths and managed to calm down.

There was another question at hand... Should she tell people? She wasn't sure whether Lenore would want it to be a secret. Zin was inclined to shout it out to the world. But she remembered Colin and hesitated; would he want to know that she was dating someone else? She had rejected him ages ago, but the knowledge might still hurt him. She hummed to herself and decided not to tell anyone unless they asked.

She spent the rest of the morning imagining herself holding Lenore's hand. Zinnia was a physically affectionate person; she always longed to touch other people, to feel that connection with them. She usually restrained herself out of respect of their personal boundaries, but now Lenore had made it clear that she held no such boundaries between herself and Zin. It was quite magical; she could finally fill her craving for human contact.

And she would never have to let go.
