It's been a while since we last heard about that whale's skeleton! The baboons picked the last of the carcass clean, taking with them small bones from the end of the tail(And, in fact, most of the end of the tail!), leaving the rest to sit in the sun and tide! By some miracle, the smaller bones haven't washed away! Now it's time to pick them up and take the big ones to the dens!

Welcome to part 2 of 2 of the Bahari'mtoto/Kizingo'zaa cross-pride mini-meta!

Now how's THIS going to work..?! How many bones are in a whale? 20 ribs, a skull, and LOTS of other little bones, between the spinal colomn and both flippers! Yeah, a lot. Have a diagram!

Now for the ground rules!

Quote:
- No picking fights, especially between prides! This is an event to foster friendship! The Kizingo'zaa are kind enough to invite the Bahari'mtoto to their Mummer's Ball, and the Bahari are returning the invitation!
- Cubs, be careful! The tide is right there, so it's an ever-present danger!
- Every time you post, roll a 20-sided die! Each number corresponds to something!
- The goal is to get all the ribs up to the dens to be used as building material! If you get one, you don't have to be horribly detailed on your lion dragging it up there. "X grabbed a rib, dragging it to the dens. When they were done, they returned." That'd suffice, as an example xD
- You may only win one prize from this! We'll reroll until we get somebody else, regardless of how much the randomizer loves you (Yes, each post is a raffle ticket!)
- Wait for somebody else to post before you post again!
- Which speaking of, posts should be at least a paragraph each. If you're having trouble filling in a post, dive into your character's psyche a bit. It's always fun to do!

What are the magic numbers?

1-7 - You have found a small bone! You may keep this to make something out of it!
8-12 - You've grabbed a shell! This'll make some lovely jewlery!
13 - You found a Mermaid's Purse... Whoops! You might want to throw that back!
14-18 - Success, you pulled a rib bone off! Drag it on up to the dens!
19-20 - You try to move the skull... That's not gonna work, though, so you give up and try again!

What about the skull?

We're gonna let the ocean reclaim that one if it wants!

Can outsiders join?

Yes! Even from other prides, so long as they behave themselves! Who knows, maybe the Bahari'll make new friends!

What about those prizes?

Glad you asked, friend, we have some GREAT prizes!

These three will be given out at the end of the RP! They come with two rules specific to them, and only two!

- They must stay in the Bahari'mtoto! They were customed for it, after all!
- These three will be BUMANI! This is part of the purpose of this RP - Athena wants the bones from the whale to use as building material, and these three are recruits as there's rather few Bumani!

All three were colored by Nerpin!

The sun rose over the sea in a glorious blaze of reds and golds against inky black and violet, causing the few remaining clouds of the monsoons look like fire in the sky. Athena enjoyed this time of day, her favorite thing to watch, as nothing seemed to match the majesty of the sunrise over the ocean that beat against their beaches. It was why she loved living by the sea, with the unobstructed view to the east, the only dot against the horizon being the island close to them.

Behind her, two lions and a leopon stood, the only ones to rise as early as she had. She didn't need to look over her shoulder to see the trio. "The sun is up. Send out the word to our pride brothers and sisters, and to the neighbors and anybody who cares to join us." Her gaze turned to the bones on the beach, temporarily a burning red from the sun. "It's time for us to move some bones."

Rieseln had been walking by a very nice jungle when the sound of voices calling out to one another caught her ears. They were very faint, but certainly there, and her curiosity got the better of her. Moving into the jungle, she began to pick up a variety of smells. Most were that of lions, but there was a very salty, fishy smell that she couldn't quite place.

Realizing she was on pridal lands, she paused for a moment before pressing on. There hadn't been any guards to turn her away, so she knew the pride would at least be welcoming of strangers. Finally she reached the source of the strange smell. A massive skeleton was laying on the beach. Her eyes widened in surprise as she had never seen the ocean before, let alone a whale. She observed for a few moments before joining in, figuring she could help and learn about this strange new place at the same time.

Shikoba wasn't far behind Ries in coming into the pride, although she had come from the other direction. She too had heard the cries for assistance and, as it was in her nature to help others, she couldn't resist the call. Unfortunately she was rather flighty and nervous around new lions, so when she saw the group that had gathered by the skeleton she hung back in the safety of the trees. Shikoba watched, wondering what the aim of the lions was, and decided she'd stay back here until she knew what was going on.

She did want to help, though, and as she sat her paws twitched eagerly to march out and ask what she could do. Her fear kept her in place, though, even though the lions and other creatures that were gathered seemed very friendly. Her kneading paws dug up something hard in the sand and she peered down to see what it was.

Oh...a rather nice shell. She poked it away from her paws, not wanting to break it and cut herself. Perhaps someone here would appreciate it more than her...she wasn't fond of things hanging on to her like jewelry. It made it easier for an enemy to grab on to her.

I'onoe hadn't done much within the pride recently, preferring her own company over the company of others. Not that she was anti-social, she just preferred the quiet...it was nicer sometimes. But when she heard about the collection of the whale bones...well, it was such an event that she could hardly miss that.

She smiled as Athena spoke, listening with eagerness. She bounced on her paws happily as she moved towards the collection of bones. She was nothing, if not ambitious and, of course, attempting to grab one of the ribs straight away. It took her quite a bit to shift it, but she had dragged it to the den quicker than she thought she would have.

Wooh, she thought to herself, I've got some muscles hidden under this lazy flab, she grinned.

The single mother had always know she was mentally strong, it was kinda nice to know she was physically strong as well.

User ImageRasul stood in awe of the behemoth skeleton that lay dug into the sand before him. It had only been a few days prior that he had first stepped foot in the ocean, and now to see what monsters may come from its depths was fascinating. And terrifying. The largest creature that ever came from the forest was the occasional decrepit elephant separated from its herd, but that was a fraction the size of this creature. To see one alive, well he wasn't sure that it could be done and return to tell about it. He swallowed hard, picking up his pace as he moved to join the group.

This was his new home too, and if these were the materials he was to be presented with he would certainly put them to good use. A strong wide bone like that could reinforce any den wall, or be used for supporting the base of a food store. But getting them where they needed to go, well that would be a challenge.

His first attempts at scavenging the bones yielded only a small segment, useless for construction but perhaps useable for tools. After all, they'd need to shape those ribs if they were to be put to their best use.

Since leaving the rainforest, Kawasami's travels had taken her from one strange new adventure to the next. She met all sorts of characters, learned of other prides with completely different customs from her own and even found a lion who knew of her and the xenophobic group who inhabited the lush jungle dwelling.

She had seen magic.
Gazed at the stars with a complete stranger.
Bounded across lines drawn in the sand with leopards.

And now her seemingly aimless wandering had brought her to the coast, where she gazed upon the most magnificent skeleton she had ever seen. It was hard to understand what was happening given the language barrier, but she could gather at least that all the lions in the area were gathering the bones and needed as much help as they could get.

Help was one thing Kawa loved to do, even if she sometimes wasn't very good at whatever the task seemed to be, so she had happily pitched in with every ounce of her overly abundant enthusiasm and soon had for her efforts, a small bone which she was eager to pass on to anyone who might stop long enough to invoke her generosity.

Ries sniffed the huge whale bones with interest. Whatever this animal was, it was huge! And very fishy smelling. Maybe it was some sort of huge fish! That would make sense with the fins and tail...but that head. The head was so strange. It didn't look like any fish skull she had ever seen before.

Moving over to it, she put her paws in the huge eye socket and peeked inside. It was completely hollowed out by this point, the birds and crabs doing their job. It stank to the high heavens, though, and she pulled back with a wrinkled nose.

"Phew...that's strong," she said, pushing against the skull again. Didn't even budge.

---

Shikoba watched as more lions joined the group, and her eyes widened in surprise as one of lionesses succeeded in dragging away a whole rib bone on her own. Perhaps the bones were hollow? Hesitantly she headed down to the beach, although she continued to hang back from the skeleton. She wanted to wait and see just what was going on. Were they just going for the rib bones? It seemed most of the lions were digging around by them...

They were very sturdy bones, she noticed. Sturdy, but light. The inside of some of the broken fin bones proved that. Perhaps they would be used for building things.

Cata was certain he didn't want to look at another whale for as long as he lived after gorging himself on the carcass that had washed up on the shore of the Bahari, impeding the view and stinking up the place with it's decomposing self. Yet somehow, here he was, staring at the giant pile of bones and wondering just how in the world they'd all managed to chew through so much meat. Granted, the Kinzingo'zaa fellas had helped a great deal, but still.

The thing was massive. Surely too much for even two entire prides worth of lions to finish. Shaking his head in disbelief, his muted green gaze scanned the beach for familiar faces, though one unfamiliar one stood out to him. A slow grin crooking his maw as he watched her try to get the attention of anyone who might pay her any mind. She seemed to want to show them her find, or maybe give it to them? Though her colors suited a Bahari lioness, she was clearly an outsider.

Stepping around the bones to approach her, Catamaran noticed a pale, pearl white shell beneath his paw and considered giving it to the female as a means to break the ice. Whether he gave to her or another lioness he fancied, he decided to hold on to it, slowly drawing up just as the pale figure with her exotic pelt noticed him, her ghostly eyes lighting up. Hey there, little thing.. what'd you find?

Rasul cringed as he saw Ries begin to tug on the skull. Even with as light as these bones seemed to be he doubted the whole lot of them could remove that piece. It was best to be left for nature to sort out. "Be careful," he called out as he took a few steps closer, "You wouldn't want to injure yourself when so much still remains." He nearly yelped as he paw landed on top of a cluster of shells, their edges shattered and turned up. So much for remaining uninjured, he cursed himself.

Looking back at them, he found one with streaks of bright pink and red throughout its opalescent surface. Bloodlines perhaps, or camouflage against coral. Whatever purpose the colors might serve he found them intriguing and fished the shell from the lot, setting it aside to take with him later on.

Strychnos wasn't sure how or when he had become Kawasemi's personal body guard, but he found himself continuing to travel beside her when he should have fled weeks ago. She had the strangest sort of luck for managing to avoid trouble where trouble was usually found, maybe because her exotic nature puzzled strangers too much for them to act as they normally would.

Stryc admittedly didn't know much about the shore-side pride they had stumbled into as the pair followed Kawasemi's nose to the salty sea. They had seemed friendly enough upon arrival, though it didn't surprise the dark male in the least when they took the kingfisher's presence for granted. His own, seemed to be regarded with a little more uncertainty. To avoid unwanted confrontation he hung back, content to lay in the warm sand as he watched the lions worrying at the massive pile of bones. Even without knowing exactly what was going on Kawa had leapt in to help, as was her nature. He watched her now with a bone clenched gently in her maw, trying to pass it off to other lions passing by who also had collected the smaller bits of bone and shook his shaggy, swamp-tinged mane, calling out to her in the language they shared. Yui sel caaf dha rnerr ular. Thairr'sa ulrirr surrasdailr dha rulr fular. (You can keep the small ones. They're only collecting the long bones.)

About to nod his head to a lioness who had carried one of the large bones up the beach on her own, his swinging head paused in mid-gesture. He saw the male with his sights trained on Kawasemi approaching long before she did and--for reasons he didn't really understand--rose quickly to meet the other head on. Intercepting his path to his innocent charge. Can I help you with something?

There was a small bone beneath his paw, but Strychnos hardly noticed it, pale eyes locked tightly upon the stranger with his jackal's smile.

[OOC: And.. probably last post I'll be able to get in until after work, in case anyone was wanting to jump in on this. Sad face. I'm having fun with my little group. ; D;]

Ries heard someone call out to her to be careful, and she turned in time to see the lion that had cautioned her step on something sharp and flinch. She had to try hard not to giggle at his misfortune, finding it a bit ironic he had been the one to call out to her and he was the one that got hurt. She pushed away from the skull, moving over to the male to inspect the shell he'd just pulled up.

"Sounds like you could take your own advice," she said good-naturedly. "It's a shame that thing is too heavy to move, though...that would be a pretty great prize to take home."

---

Shikoba watched a few other lions work before moving up to one of the ribs. She dug just a bit at the base and found it was rather loose, so she continued to dig until the rib bone slid to the left. She reached up and pressed with her paws to push it down, then set about getting it up to where the first one had been brought. She followed the trail of the other lioness, making her way carefully so as not to damage the bone or herself. It was lighter than a bone this size should be, but that didn't mean it wasn't heavy.

Once she reached the other rib bone she set it down and headed back to the skeleton. Now that she had got the hang of how this worked she was more eager to help.

He couldn't remember a time when he was more unwilling to even look at food. The salty, tough meat of the strange sea beast had been pleasant but... different. It was one of those things where he couldn't entirely decide if he liked it or not, but it was a shame to let good food go to waste so he had eaten. Now well stuffed and quite content, Fire Dog listened as the pride announced yet another activity- gathering the bones of their feast.

He glanced up, then slowly turned his head to take in the distance they were being asked to drag said bones. With a full belly, all he wanted to do was roll over and sleep until the week was over with. It was bad form, however, for him to simply grab a bite and slink off when the work was proposed. He was here to represent his family and pride.

Sighing, Firedog shifted to his paws and stepped up, once again, to the large carcass. Rather than starting away at the large bones, he pulled a smaller one free and used it to clear his teeth of a pesky bit of dinner. Flicking it away, he stole a glance at the others to note their early progress.

Prancing across the sand as if she had lived in the world of the Bahari all her life Kawasemi tried numerous times to give her bone to one of the pride lions passing by only to be overlooked, but no one seemed to want it. Given that everyone was collecting bones from the skeleton, this puzzled her greatly. Brow furrowing at her rejection. Was she doing it wrong? She wanted to help collect the bones for them, but nobody seemed to want the bones found by her.

Thankfully Strychnos was there to translate their intentions for her, his smooth, deep voice reaching out to soothe her uncertainty. Having lived outside their shared origins much longer, he was far more worldly than the tropical backed lioness. Kawa was glad to have him close by, head tilting as she gazed at him, her voice filled with wonder. I sel caaf aid?! (I can keep it?!)

The idea of having a token from the beach dwelling pride clearly excited her as she looked for a place to put her trinket where it might be safe until all the work on the beach was finished. She nearly ran into the ocean blue lion with friendly eyes, if hadn't been for Stryc's sudden intervention, blinking up between the two males. Whatever distrust her companion had for the stranger, she was oblivious to it, showing the Bahari native the bone she had found proudly. Strychnos reirrr I sel caaf dhair! Bid I'n ruailr du fid aid ail e rella fresa llus luw ru I sel harf nuya dha rulr fular!(Strychnos says I can keep this! But I'm going to put it in a safe place for now so I can help move the long bones!)

Too excited to wait for his reaction though, the slender little lioness instead, dropped her bone between Stryc's large paws for safe keeping and ran off to dig out one of the giant ribs that rested heavily in the sand, struggling to roll the bowed bone awkwardly inland with her forehead.

The lion shook his paw, trying to hide his embarrassment at being caught failing to heed his own advice. He should have learned early on that strange things were often hidden beneath the sands. Much like traveling the forest of his birthplace at night, he would need to learn to be much more careful where he stepped.

"It would," he agreed, settling himself at a place along the skeleton where he could speak to the lioness without having to shout over the activity surrounding them, "But we could just as easily build around it, use the cavernous insides as a meeting space of sorts. String hides up over the eye sockets, insulate the thing." The long narrow teeth would be a hazard, certainly, but they might be able to wear them down or pack the space for food storage.

It all would make a useful space to keep fish safe from prying birds he thought. But that all was for much grander more important minds than his own. He was new to this place, and he planned on doing just what he was told.

"These are more to scale," he told her with a laugh as he latched on to one of the rib bones and pulled it across the sand, careful where he placed his paws this time. It was a relatively quick trip to the den and back with it, but all the same he found himself speeding to rejoin the group. There was much work yet to be done.
