Upon The Meadow Facilities UTMS is not the easiest places to find; one must follow all the signs or risk getting lost. Through one of the many old roads there is a large entrance through the trees with a sign holding the crest of UTM. Turning onto this road, the once bright blue sky gets a little darker with large grey clouds; the dirt road starts to disappear as a thick fog settles in. The road seems to go on forever, surrounded by a vast forest there’s no point in turning around now. Then, the road opens up into a large meadow with multiple buildings. There is an old farm house to the side, a woman steps out of the farm house, red haired and looking quite angry.
Welcome to Upon the Meadows.
1. Main Entrance: a gravel driveway lined by a thick forest leads from the public road to the main barns, arenas, office, and owners’ residence.
2. Office: an old farmhouse converted into the office where Upon the Meadow Stables’ business is conducted.
3. Owners’ Residence: a two story farmhouse that was renovated from the 1900s original. It is currently home to the Lockwood family.
4. Main Barn and Indoor Arena: the brand new main barn is modern, bright and well-ventilated. It houses 16 horses. The east side of the barn joins with the indoor arena, which is 100x250 feet and has sand footing.
5. Outdoor Arena A: 160x300 foot arena with sand footing.
6. Outdoor Arena B: 66x197 foot sand arena.
7. Outdoor Arena C: 66x197 foot sand arena.
8. Cross Country Field: not a true cross country course, but a place to introduce horses and riders to different cross country obstacles. Can be converted into a cross country course or a riding trail.
9. Paddocks for show horses.
11. Stallion Barn and Breeding Shed: the stallion barn has stalls for 10 stallions and a state-of-the-art breeding facility.
12. Stallion Paddocks.
13. Stallion Pastures.
14. Birch Pasture.
15. larch Pasture.
16. Yearling Paddocks.
17. Yearling Barn: this 12-stall barn is the perfect place for future race and show horses to mature.
18. Wonderboom Pasture.
19. Weeping Willow Pasture.
20. Broodmare and Foal Paddocks
21. Broodmare and Foaling Barn: the barn has 8 large stalls for broodmares and foals, plus foaling stalls.
22. Broodmares Pasture.
23. Big Broodmares Pasture.
24. Witch Lake: with a small beach and dock, the lake is perfect for swimming. Picnics are often held under the trees on the surrounding grassy hills.
25. Mingo River: this shallow, rocky river winds through the center of the property in a leafy ravine.
26. Wawona Island: a heavily forested island about a quarter of an acre in size.
27. Racehorse Paddocks
28. Racehorse Barn: accommodates 12 horses in large, airy stalls with easy access to the training tracks, hotwalker, round pens, and paddocks.
29. Dirt and Turf Training Tracks: The dirt track is 5 furlongs, and has a new turf track inside it, both of which are ideal for starting young racehorses and conditioning older ones. Equipped with a four-horse starting gate and a covered viewing area for spectators.
30. Graduated Turf Training Track: this turf track is approximately a mile long and winds up and down the side of Spectre Hill. The up- and downhill intervals are perfect for building horses’ stamina and speed.
31. Cypress Pasture: pasture for resting or recuperating racehorses.
32. Centurion Pasture: pasture for resting or recuperating racehorses.
33. Storage garages: buildings to store machinery, feed, bedding, manure, and vehicles.
34. Back Driveway: provides access to the storage garages from a public road.
35. Staff Residence: A series of cottages for staff in residence.
36. Staff Residence: a large house for staff in residence.
37. Cutting of The Elm: a forested area that stretches from the Weeping Willow Pasture to the Centurion Pasture, and is covered in forests of maple, pine, and beech trees. Riding trails, many with optional obstacles such as streams and jumps, wind over some of the hills.
38. Unicorn Grove: this grassy grove with a small stream running through the center is a favourite spot of children riding the trails because of its magical appearance.
