Guild Rules:

~ No fighting

~ No cursing

~ No insulting of anyone's work

~ No advertising of descriptions

~ No polls within description threads

~ ABSOLUTELY NO BUMPING!!

~ No asking for commissions

~ No competativeness

~ For more details about these rules, or for information about using pictures, check the Ammendments at the bottom of the page.

Failure to adhere to these rules may result in immediate banning from the Guild.

Instructions:

Writers:

~ Write a paragraph about a character you've created in your mind. Include everything you want to be considered in the drawing of your character, and post it as a new thread.

~ Use as much or as little detail as you wish.

~ When describing your character remember, personality is just as important as the actual appearance. Is your character brave? Shy? Mean? Innocent? If you'd like you can describe your character in personality only, leaving the physical appearance to the interpretation of the artist.

~ Feel free to make minor constructive suggestions (stuff such as "could you make her hair a bit longer?"), but don't critique artist's work. It's their interpretation, and they're free to make it as they wish. If you don't care for it, just don't use it.

~ Remember, this is all for fun, so don't get upset if someone's interpretation doesn't match your mental image.

~ Always credit pictures to the person who created them.

~ If you like someone's picture, OFFER COMPLIMENTS!!!

~Remember, if you're not comfortable having your work drawn, DO NOT share it!

Artists:

~ Feel free to PM writers to ask for more detail on a character that you wish to draw. The more you know about the writer's concept, the closer your drawing will be to what they are looking for.

~ Be creative, but don't actively change characteristics designated by the writer. Character's can be very dear to a writer, so do try to give the writer what they ask for.

~ SIGN YOUR WORK!!! When you share your artwork with a writer, it is assumed that the writer may use that picture for their own inspiration, so if you want to receive credit for your work MAKE SURE YOU SIGN IT.

~ Understand that writers may wish to display your picture on websites along with their writing. If you'd prefer they not do this, please say so.

~ Post your picture, either directly or by way of a link, in the thread of the description you've chosen to use.

Above all else, have fun! The goal is to give artists a fun, creative exercise while helping writers in the formation of their own work. So express your ideas, share concepts, and have fun!

We've been having some new members join our Guild, including folks who hadn't previously been a part of the original Character Work thread, and I just wanted to take a moment to welcome all our new members! Please feel free to introduce yourselves, either in the Non-Description Chatter thread, or in your own individual threads! Thanks for giving our little guild a chance. mrgreen

Ammendment 1: Information About Reusing Pictures:

When you post a picture on the board here, it is assumed that you are granting permission to the writer of the character to use the picture you've created.

However, as the creator of the picture, you maintain the right to say "I'd really rather you not use my picture," in which other people are required to respect your wishes and not use the picture.

If the creator of the picture does not object to the writer borrowing the picture, the writer is obligated to credit the artist who created the picture whenever they may use it.

And in the event that any characters/pictures are to be used in an professional publication (not including personal websites or home-made printings), the issues of ownership will be decided between all involved parties, with the help of lawyers if neccesary. But hopefully it won't come to that.

Ammendment 2: This guild is a nonprofit organization. This means don't ask for commissions.

Do not charge money to draw for people, and don't charge money to use your description. If I see ANY threads of this sort (because I know some will pop up eventually...) I WILL automatically delete them. This is for fun, not money making.

(Thanks to LynxCharochi for writing this section.)

Ammendment 3: There is NO competition in the Guild.

This place is for fun, not competeing. The problem with competition is this: in order for someone to win, someone must lose. We're not about that here. If you want to take part in an art competition there are plenty of other Guilds for that such thing. Thank you.
