Otto sat on a lobby bench, dressed in track pants and a sleeveless top under his hunter's coat. He had a notebook in which he was taking notes. Small drawings littered the margins, most of them pictures of the marks on his arms; the key and the hourglass. The notes were random hypotheses about their purpose, as well as any related events tied to them.

He was trying to solve his own mysteries.

There was a column for Death/Charon, one for Sam, one for the Key, one for the Hourglass. Even a side bar for events in Neverland and the shards.

Otto bit the side of the pencil, making small teeth marks in it's form. An open window allowed the tropical air to blow in and push his long hair around and away from his face; his eyes staring down at the messy scrawl in his book.

A familiar blonde head was what caught Peyton's attention as she was wandering through, and because she hadn't seen her cousin in a good long while she altered her course and took a seat beside him. "Hey Cousin, whatcha doing?" A curious, albeit very brief, glance was turned down to the page, then jumped immediately up to his face.

Otto was startled from his endless loop of thoughts to find Peyton in his company. "Hey.." He murmured back, taking the pencil out of his mouth. She always insisted on pushing the family thing by calling him by their familial status, it seemed. But then again, there were people he'd seen in media that did the same. Mostly rednecks calling one another 'cuz'.

"Uh... pretending I know what I'm doing." He answered half heartedly, judging his notes with scrutiny. "Coulda done this in my own place, but it's been empty and stale there lately."

For Peyton, cousin had just become a term of endearment. She wasn't consciously trying to remind him of their familial bond, but the result was the same, regardless.

"Uh huh," she leaned forward to rest her elbows on her knees. "And what does this entail?"

A frown flickered over glossed lips at that last comment. It was true, Pey hadn't seen much of Cami or Maebe lately, but she hadn't thought they were actually absent. She could see Otto's reasoning. Even though Noah had his own room still, he slept over so often lately, that if he were called away for an length of time, she would certainly notice it.

"You could come to my room, it'd be more comfortable." The offer came with a smile. "I'll make dinner. Besides, I don't think I've given you the grand tour yet."

"It entails making a list of stuff I already know to make myself feel smart and enlightened." He affirmed, snapping his book closed.

Otto was about to politely decline Peyton's offer until she said the magic password; I'll make dinner. His eyes flicked to meet hers, assessing the situation with a hungry bias. "Hmmm. Okay."

It beat sitting out in public.

"Oh, I see." The book snapped closed. "Is it helping at all?"

She was smiling, as she waited for him to answer, because she knew she'd said the magic word. They might not be especially close, but Peyton, at least, paid attention, because for better or worse, Otto was on that short list of people she truly cared for. When he agreed the smile upgraded to an all out grin, and she hopped back up to her feet. "Do you like lasagna?"

"No, not really. If anythin' it only just organizes my thoughts. Still ain't gettin' me anywhere though." He'd learned to stop over analyzing in his head, as his thoughts would get lost in the chaos. Eventually it led to feeling like he had more problems than he really did, or creating problems where there wasn't.

Otto's eye twitched, as if he was trying not to look too happy or excited as she suggested the dinner of choice. "Yeah, it's good." He murmured passively, holding his notebook under his arm. America had also made him lasagna. It had been amazing, as the rare home cooked meal always tended to be. He was more than happy to have it yet again.

His stomach was already anxious to dig in, and they hadn't even gotten there yet.

"Maybe taking a break from it will help," she suggested as she started leading the way back towards the dorms.Though, admittedly, not knowing what he was working on, her advice was blanket at best.

She did grin though, as he showed obvious interest in her suggested meal. "Good, because I have the noodles all ready for it, and they need to get used up." She'd boiled them to al dente the evening before, as well as mixed the ricotta cheese. Now it was a simple case of assembly and cooking.

Otto grimaced. "Maybe.." Taking a break from this particular issue may just hinder more than it would help. Fret and worry stuck in his mind like a kernel stuck in your teeth. The marks would one day mean something, and he was sure it wouldn't be good. He had hoped taking on the key would give him power, but it took it away. The hourglass was a pact made without knowing the details. All strings of fate tied him down without ever knowing the how or why.

He focused instead on the meal ahead. A hot, home cooked pasta that was sure to help melt away his worries. He didn't bother worrying whether she was a good cook or not.

He went quiet, as he often did, watching the doors pass by as they walked.

Otto was in for a treat, because his cousin had been cooking since she was twelve, and thus far had gotten zero complaints.

The walk down the hall was quiet, but that was alright. Peyton knew Otto wasn't very chatty under the best of times, and coerced family time probably didn't fall under 'best of times', even if he hadn't already been stressed over whatever it was he'd been working on. So she let the silence stretch between them, until they'd gotten up the stairs and reached her room.

"Make yourself at home." She opened to the door to usher him in, and followed him in. Her suite was small, but well organized and set up in a way that took advantage of the space at hand. One big, long room, with a kitchenette beside them, and a door to the bathroom at the far side. In the space between there was ceiling high Ikea cube shelf serving as divider, and her bed was on the other side of it. Her bedside table, with the little fish bowl and mushroom lap, served double duty, with a fold out couch beside it. There was a coffee table, a slim tv stand that held a very new, though not excessively large, tv, and a desk.

In the kitchenette itself there was a very small breakfast table and bar stools tucked up beneath a window. "There's soda in the fridge, if you want any." She headed there herself, and grabbed a can of Dr. Pepper as well as the pan of lasagna that had been prepared. The later was tucked into the oven, and timer was set. Simple.

Peyton had a very nice place. It was neat, stylish and functional. He had to give credit where it was due. He set his notebook down on a table, nodding as he admired the place. Soon enough, he took her up on the offer, grabbing a can of Dr. Pepper for himself as well.

"Nice place.." He murmured, the crack and hiss of the can of pop ringing out loud. "Is it just you here?"

"Kinda?" She looked thoughtful, smiling. "Noah stays here most nights, and he's got a key, but he's still got his room." She sipped her soda, taking a seat at the small table. Otto's approval of her dorm was not required, but no less pleasing to hear. "Thanks. Not as nice as your's, yet."

Another drink, then a glance down at the notebook. "We've got about twenty minutes. Maybe I could help?"

Otto sat with her, sliding his notebook toward her with some hesitation. He was getting nowhere on his own. As much as he felt this was his problem only, he worried if it went on too long, it would turn into something larger.

"Guess we could try." He opened the book to the messy scrawls of his handwriting, spanned across two pages. About Charon, the hourglass, Neverland, dreams with Sam, The key he'd been trying to keep secret.

"This is all I know. I don't got any new information to add to it, and nobody to ask." It didn't help that a lot of his dreams involving Death or Sam were often difficult to remember. "I don't even remember when I first got the key... I think it was after that.. Wonderland dream we all had." One of many bizzare things to have happened as a Hunter.
"I ain't certain if Charon really was the dude who gave me and the others this hourglass tatt. It means some kind of a deal, but I dunno what."

For a long moment Peyton was quiet as she read over the page, taking him what he already knew. Arms folded on the table as she leaned over the notebook, and her expression had gone utterly thoughtful. Then she looked up, speaking finally. "You had the key in your possession when you woke up from the wonderland dream the first time. I remember you texting me about it." And she remembered recommending he go to the Life techs to have them check it out. It didn't look as though he'd done that.

"So the key is in your hand?" Brows creased as she dropped her gaze to his hands. "Does it hurt?"

As for the Charon thing, Peyton couldn't really contribute much. She hadn't been present for mission in the tower where Charon and Death had fallen. Though, with them gone, she had to wonder if the deal--if it was a deal--still stood. There was no one left to collect, after all. "When did that happen, the hourglass thing?"

"Yeah, it is." He opened his palm, revealing a mark in the shape of the key. "It doesn't hurt, but my power's been knocked down a peg." He didn't fight with as much force as he'd done before he took on the key. Tenya's bond had felt weaker as a result.

"I got the hourglass... not too long ago. Summer time. Maybe June? It happened after the uh... Death dying.. thing. I think what we met was some kinda after image. I don't even know. If he's gone, than he shouldn't be able to communicate. Me and a few others got sent to um... send back a thing I mighta touched and should not have...."

He coughed.

"It's complicated. I think I got some kinda seal or uh.. I dunno. A thing from Death in a dream once, in exchange for not dying. I didn't end up having to give it away in the end."
