It is said that curiosity killed the cat, though in this case it was her kittens who were curiously wandering the lands, following a trail of footprints that stretched on as far as the eye could see. Starlight shivered, her footlocks heavy and wet from the thick white substance that had consumed the ground. Over the past few weeks it had been slowly taking over the land, building up more and more until now not even the roots of trees could be seen because of it. It was winters takeover, the first one the foals had ever experienced. Though admittedly it was last night that had truly conquered the valley, a good foot had fallen whilst the family had slept.
The foal lent down, putting her nuzzle into the snow as if to try take in its scent, though that only ended with a loud sneeze and snort that echoed through the forest, the inside of her nostrils were suddenly damp and uncomfortable and she did not approve at all. She pouted, staring at the luminous ground like it had offended her in some way. There was not a cloud in the sky and the bright sun was beating down upon them, making the forest floor somewhat difficult to look at due to show stark and bright it was. How could it be so cold on such a bright day? She thought to herself, pondering the way the weather worked, it was such a strange phenomenon, always unpredictable, always changing. Their home was completely unrecognisable, so different from the falling leaves and golden meadows which were there when they finally emerged from their baskets.
Starlight looked over her shoulder, trail swishing in excitement as she waited for her bother. "Nuadha! Nuadha! Hurry up, we are almost there! It's just over this hill!" The filly called out to him, her voice loud and eager. She had come away once before this morning, when she woke to see the land transformed overnight she had rushed out to explore, leaving her sleeping family behind. Though when she saw the lake completely hardened and still she went rushing back to grab her brother, basically jumping him in his sleep before dragging them out of the den in which they had been staying lately. Impatiently the pale filly stopped once more, turning around to stare back at her sibling, he was going too slow for her tastes. Did he not realize how amazing this was? The entire lake covered in a hard coating, she bet you could walk from one side to the other if you tried.
"Come on! I'll race you to the top of the hill. I will even count to five if your scared you'll loose.~" The young girl stuck out her tongue mockingly, trying to inspire some competition in her other half in the hope a game would move him to the top with some haste. The snow had become thicker the closer they got to the hill and now tickled the knees of the two small soquili, no doubt it would reach their bellies before they got to the top.
