It was a nice evening in the Pridelands. Not that every evening wasn't nice, but this particular evening was perfect in Halisi's eyes. She'd just had her first shift as a Nanny and it had gone very well, the heat of the day was gone and was making way for a gorgeous sunset, and if the scent of blood on the air had anything to say, there was a fresh kill that had just been brought in. Her stomach rumbled and her mouth began to water as she made her way to the feeding grounds. Not long ago she'd been the one hunting for her pride, but now that more jobs had opened up, she could finally enjoy what she did in life. She loved cubs. She always had. Even as a cub she had been a maternal little girl, watching out for her siblings and, as she grew, younger cubs. Now there was nothing that made her happier than a snuggly little cub learning how to pounce or sleeping peacefully against her side. While she had enjoyed providing for the pride, she knew that this was her niche and she couldn't have felt happier. Halisi continued along the path through the tall grass that led from the cub sitting grounds down to where the food was brought. She took her time despite her grumbling tummy, wanting to enjoy the evening.

Jani liked when things were quiet in the pride lands. It made his job a heck of a lot easier. Though he didn't think he really had much of a job at the moment. He was following the scent of blood at the moment, though he knew there wasn't anyone in need of saving. It was likely a kill brought back by the hunters. Needed, but not as interesting as he would have liked it to be. Silly, really, when he was also thinking of how nice things were. Why did he also want there to be trouble? Perhaps he was a bit bored. As he walked, he noticed another lioness heading towards the food. Smiling faintly, he wandered over to her. "Hello there, are you going to get something to eat?" He asked lightly, if only because he wanted the company, "I was on my way to get some food, too. Uh... sorry... I suppose that's a random reason to greet you... " Boy, he was kind of an idiot when it came to talking to others.

Halisi was so intent on getting to her dinner that she didn't notice the approaching male until he was nearly next to her. She looked up at him in surprise, her ears turning to face him and her pupils dilating just a bit. Yikes! That had been a bit of a startle. "O-oh! Um...yes, yes I am," she said as she tried to calm herself down. Her first day as a Nanny and her hunting skills seemed to have fallen off the face of the earth. No one used to be able to sneak up on her like that, and she doubted he had been trying to spook her. His awkwardness helped make her smile, though, and she quickly shook her head at his apology. "Oh no, it's quite all right. What better way to meet someone new than over food?" she asked lightly. Tilting her head, she examined the male quickly. He had very striking features and yet she was sure she had never seen him before. The Pridelands were quite large, though. It was very possible they'd never crossed paths until now. "I'm Halisi," she offered as they walked together. "You're very good at being quite while you walk."

Jani gasped softly when she reacted to him, aware that he had probably startled her with his introduction. He was a bit of a twit when it came to meeting and greeting others- he was much better at fighting and hunting than anything else. though he looked so regal and tough, he was a bit of a mess. He smiled when she seemed to relax a bit, glad he hadn't made her think that he was an enemy of some kind. "I agree! If you would like, I would be happy to help you hunt. It's probably one of my favorite things to do." At her compliment, he gave a light chuckle. Was it a compliment? Well, he considered it one- it was a good thing that a hunter was light on his feet! "I'm sorry," he offered with a smile, "I guess I was so in hunting mode that I was a little too subtle about coming up to speak to you! I'll make sure I make more noise the next time." A light went off in his brain and he let out a small gasp. "Oh! And my name is Janikiwiti, though you can call me Jani if you would like. Most do. It's a pleasure to meet you, Halisi."

"Is it really?" Halisi asked with a little grin. "It's a good thing they opened up more roles to fill because I honestly was pretty bad at it. I was always the designated chaser or distraction." She was pretty good at herding the prey to the waiting lionesses and lions, but as for the killing part....well. She'd be out of luck if she were ever on her own. She knew it was vital to survival and she could if she had to, but feeling the life bleed out of something by her own claws and teeth was a bit sad for her. "I was just going to eat whatever had been brought back today all ready," she admitted, glancing in the direction of the feeding area. "But...since you enjoy hunting so much I really couldn't turn down a fresh meal. That is, as long as you don't mind doing the dirty work, so to speak. I could help by leading something to you but..." She trailed off, letting Jani make the decision. As he gave his name she smiled again, bobbing her head in thanks. There were some very long names in the pride and nicknames were definitely helpful.

Jani chuckled lightly. He was sure he had spent plenty of time being the distraction while he was learning how to hunt. It took him a while to get to the point where the others trusted him with the kills, and even longer to get to the point where they let him lead the attacks himself. Now he was confident enough in his abilities to hunt along if he needed to. Which he rarely did- there were still plenty of hunters in the pride, even with the newer positions that had opened up. "Don't you worry!" He hummed, "I'll get you something nice and if I don't, well, at least we know there's still a meal waiting!" Not that he intended to fail her, of course. He really wanted to show her that he knew how to hunt and could catch just about anything that came along. Within reason. "What is it you fancy having? I make no promises on what we'll find, but I would be happy to keep an eye out for something good for you, if you're craving it!"

Jani's question made Halisi think for a bit. Was there anything she had a hankering for? Nothing that a single lion could take down by himself, not matter how good of a hunter he was. She turned her thoughts to smaller game, smiling slightly as she wondered how amusing it would be to see him try to catch a hare. "Anything is fine, but if we happen across an easy to grab antelope I wouldn't turn my nose up to it," she said, settling for something more common but still delightfully tasty. There had been a fruitful year for the antelope and there were more awkward-legged babies running around than the adults could keep track of. "And even if you don't get something nice, it's still very kind of you to offer," she added, giving the male another small, shy smile. She'd never had a male offer to get her something before.

Jani was delighted that Halisi didn't think he was totally weird for offering to hunt for her. He motioned for her to follow him, though he supposed she didn't really have to come if she didn't want to. She could just... wait for him to return. However, he probably would have liked her to watch him a bit more, since it might impress her... "Luckily, I happen to know where there's a good group of antelope not far from here! Come with me, if you like! You're welcome to join me and watch a pro at work." He didn't know why he was being cocky about it. Perhaps he was just pleased that she seemed happy with him. Males. They really only had one thing on their mind most of the time- hunting for the ladies. That was it, right? Right?

Halisi had to bite her lip as Jani talked himself up. Oh no...he was cute. Too cute in fast. She looked away so he wouldn't see her chuckling, not wanting him to think she was laughing at him. He was just so eager for her to watch him that it was painfully obvious he wanted to show off. She wanted him to show off for her, though, so he was in luck! "Great," she said as she turned to look at him again, blue eyes bright with delight. "I'd love to see a master at work. Lead the way, Jani. I'll happily follow." She nodded in the direction they were heading, inviting him to be the one to walk a few steps before her so she could turn when he did without them bumping in to one another, and so they could still talk. Oh dear...when was it like her to become so interested in a male so quickly? Perhaps becoming a Nanny had kick-started her maternal instincts to find a mate to have cubs of her own with.
