Rolled a four: Water field: Five large platforms float on the surface of the deep pool. Four form a diamond formation around the single platform in the center. While land pokemon can move around on this field, it is mainly built for water-types. This field gives a 25 HP attack boost to WATER type attacks.

Lenore walked into the stadium and stuffed a hand into her jacket pocket. Pulling a pokeball from within, she sent out Nelis'viel. The kirlia landed gracefully on one of the platforms before casting a glance back at Lenore.

Zyk hovered expertly above Zinnia's head using his four wings as the young trainer entered the stadium. "Hmm, water field," she noted. "No problem for us." Her mouth curled into a grin.
She looked across the field and spotted a familiar face with an unfamiliar pokemon. "Oh... That kirlia has an unusual color... Like you, Zyk! Maybe you two will get along."
Zyk made a derisive squeak that said he found that doubtful. He didn't enter the battlefield to make friends!
"You know, I know that I've battled her a few times, but I don't think we've had a real conversation! What was her name... It started with... an L? L-something... Lenore? Lenore, yeah, I think she said that once!" She smiled at her own brilliant memory and knack for catching people's names. "I'll have to talk to her after the battle. Oh yeah! The battle! Zyk, you ready? Go on out!"
Zyk squeaked affirmative and took his place on the field.

Lenore looked down at the crobat and tilted her head. It seemed familiar, somehow. The girl accompanying him did, as well, come to think of it. She sighed. Meph would probably know why they looked familiar - he was good at remembering people. Nothing for it right now, though. Nel wanted to try battling again since having evolved, and it was up to her to help her through it. That's what trainers were supposed to do, right?
"Nel, use Lucky Chant!" The kirlia nodded her understanding and clapped her hands together, chanting a tune that formed a shimmering veil around her.

"Poison Fang!" Zinnia commanded.
Zyk swooped for the kirlia, dripping fangs bared in preparation for his favorite attack. He could make precise turns with his four wings; they even granted him the ability to fly backward and to hover. And his eyes! While he still relied on echolocation, his eyes were even more reliable. He locked onto his target and fell from the air like a bullet, fangs aimed for the kirlia's exposed shoulder. Now he just had to hope she wasn't fast enough to dodge!

The zubat was seeing double now and his ears were ringing, but he did his best for his trainer anyway.

The kirlia frowned slightly with fear, but focused on Lenore. A wave of calm spread through her, and she fired off another weak burst of energy.

The dark mist flooded the field, but Nelis'viel was ecstatic - she didn't feel the crobat's pain from that last attack! Lenore's voice brought her back to earth. "Use Misty Terrain!"
The kirlia nodded again, and her eyes began to glow. A pink fog rolled over the field, obscuring the kirlia from sight.

"Tsk," Zinnia hissed as the stadium became very foggy. The pink haze remained even after Zyk's purple-black cloud dissipated. "Venoshock!" she commanded.
Zyk opened his mouth wide, releasing a jet of poison onto his opponent.

Nelis'viel was drenched in venom, and she cried out in pain. "Another Confusion!" The kirlia tried to focus on Lenore's calm demeanor, and the pain seemed to subside for the most part. She launched another mind bullet (that's telekinesis, Kyle) at Zyk.

Zinnia tapped her chin, frozen for a moment as she thought frantically to change her battle strategy. She only had a few seconds-- she burst out, "Roost!"
Zyk landed neatly on the floor of the stadium, obscured by the pink fog. He propped himself up on his wings, but he had to rely on echolocation over his eyes in order to tell what was going on.
