Quote: During the Winter Solstice Celebration, a shrine is set up and coins are tossed in for wishes! Similar to asian tradition! They pray and ring the bell when they are done. Many get in line for this event, Even said that the Gods have blessed it! Your characters have finally made it to the shrine after a long wait. Each with their own prayers. After, do they stay in the crowded area where vendors, cooks, and dancers to join the celebration? Or do they find themselves alone?

Moving among the wide variety of species there was a pair the like of which few had ever seen. Larger than the others they would have stood out even without their large leathery wings and shining scales. They held their wings close as they moved through the snow, trying not to disturb the festivities too much. The male smiled as they walked, glad to see the festivities so well attended and so much happiness. The female was more reserved and seemed a little less comfortable with all the activity. But, they had a purpose in mind in coming here; a particular part of the night's rituals they wished to observe. Admittedly it was all the male's idea, and his mate was the type to go along to avoid argument no matter how foolish the notion seemed to her.

The male draco moved through the crowd, a thing not too difficult as others tended to get out of the way of the large pair, before standing to one side and gawking at what to many of them were just legends. There just weren't enough of their kind around quite yet for others to be fully comfortable. He sighed, being a healer this saddened him. Few were willing to come to him for help until they were at their most desperate. It would change, being here among the celebrants was a step in the right direction. And someday there would be more draco'ula. He and his companion were not the only pair in existence. Raphael looked at his mate from the corner of his eyes his mouth pulling up in a roguish grin he knew she'd recognize.
The female was a lot less comfortable being around so many others. There was little practical purpose to all this frivolity and a part of her feared for their safety. Not everyone showed respect for those that were difference. Thankfully though the air of celebration seemed to be reigning and she had yet to detect a threat from even the larger groups of fearful gawkers. Gabriel looked over when Raphael sighed, then rolled her eyes when he gave her that wicked grin.
He chuckled at her reaction before looking ahead through the snow which had been increasing through the evening. Finally he heard the ring of a deeper bell than that which accompanied the dancers. He turned in the direction, "Ah, I think that's our destination over there. It seems a bit busy, but at least we have good company." He knew how she felt, the practical protector of the philosophical dreamer of a healer. This was the last place she wanted to be. He wondered if she had thought about what prayers and wishes she would send to the Gods, or if she was merely there because he wanted to be. His tail reached over to twine briefly with hers in a comforting caress.
Gabriel too turned toward the bell. Yes, the line was quite long. "Lots of company, yes. I've yet to see reason to call any of this 'good' however." She wasn't quite as against this whole gathering as she made out to be. She was his protector yes, because he tended to put his own safety quite low on the list, silly healer. But she had been giving a great deal of thought to her offering and wish. His tail caress brought a true smile and a purr from her, "Well I guess we should get in line so we can get this over with," she said pulling her serious face back on.

It did seem as if some of the others where nervous as the pair of draco's joined the line. The female observed aware of each movement towards them, she occasionally lifted a paw to the pouch where she held the tokens for their offering. The male smiled putting on his most soothing air and trying to strike up a conversation with those closest to them. A few of the younger and more adventurous actually responded and asked questions including the slightly awkward... "What are you?" Raphael took this all in stride, used to dealing with young knowledge seekers. When home on his mountain he was known as a philosopher and teacher as well as a healer. Gabriel did her best to hold back her growls only answering the few questions clearly being addressed directly to her. Raphael's charm however seemed to be working and as their turn approached they were an accepted part of the gathering and not such an oddity ... or more to Gabriel's peace of mind not such a threat.

"Finally," Gabriel said sighing with relief as their turns finally came. She reached into her pouch and handed half the tokens to Raphael for his offering. Then her own tokens in paw she approached first as her mate indicated for her. All her stoic practicality melted away and her heart fluttered nervously as she tossed in the coins and squeezed her eyes shut, her heart and mind full of what she wanted more than anything else. She stepped to one side to allow Raphael to make his own offering while she whispered the prayers of her heart to the gods before ringing the bell. Any that happened to look in her eyes at the moment would see the protective loving soul within and the heart which belonged to the male who was soon beside her. Her wish... more than anything was for acceptance for themselves and that ultimate expression of love to have a family with her Raphael.
Raphael smiled as he accepted the coins from his mate, a smile that turned encouraging as he motioned her to proceed him. He knew she'd need some time and staggering their offerings would give her that bit of time while he completed her prayers. He adored his sweet protector and understood more than anyone the spirit that dwelt behind her mask. As she stepped to one side he stepped up and presented his offering and his heart's desire. He stepped aside for further prayers, Thank you for granting me the precious beauty at my side as protector, companion and mate. I must have done something right in your eyes to earn such a spirit as she. If you do grant my wish, I promise to give my all to my mate and our family. He bowed his head respectfully before ringing the bell to complete the ritual.
He turned to find his beloved waiting for him, her masks mostly back in place but a certain softness to her eyes that was just for him. "Come love let's find a place to get out of this snow and enjoy the rest of the night."
Gabriel stood and composed herself looking away to offer Raphael privacy as he prayed. She turned back when the ringing bell signaled he was done. There was a resolution and strength to him that rarely showed in the sometimes rambling philosopher, something his patients sometimes glimpsed but not in the same way he revealed himself to her. She smiled at him and nuzzled him. "We needn't run off so soon, there is music and dancing perhaps we could join in for a little while?" she suggested and had the satisfaction surprising him.
Raphael's eyes widened in surprise. He shook himself a bit like a shiver went through him, "Whatever you wish, my dear. The night is ours!" And he nuzzled her in return before leading her toward the center of the gathering.
((well over 500 at this point going to do one more post this weekend to wrap this up with the shooting stars.))

The evening was magic in spite of the falling snow. The draco'ula danced, sometimes taking the dance to the sky above the dance floor. They laughed and began to really feel accepted. Gabriel's heart thrilled and she loosened up enough to truly enjoy herself, but she never ventured away from Raphael's side. Of course Raph wouldn't have it any other way.
Finally though they said good-bye to their new friends. They were growing tired and they just wanted to find a nice place to curl up together. The pair took to their wings and scouted around the surrounding area finally spotting the shadow of a cave or significant overhang. Above them the clouds began to clear and the stars became visible. They settled down and paused to look up before entering the cave. That's when they say them, the shooting stars raining down.
"I've never seen so many before; it's beautiful."
"Yes it is. I'd say make a wish dear heart, but we already did earlier tonight. Perhaps..." he paused thoughtfully, "Perhaps this is a sign that the Gods are pleased with today's gathering and offerings."
A purr escaped her, a sign of her contentment. "Yes, I think the Gods have reason to be pleased with their children tonight. I know I was surprised to be able to enjoy our time among so many others, especially after their initial fears. Now my heart lets get some rest and perhaps discuss making wishes come true on this blessed night?"
No more words were said as he wrapped a wing around her and they walked into the cave for warmth, for rest, for talk of dreams and making them come true....
