It was a warm day in the park and a small purple flutter was leaning over one of the running fountains. One would normally think a young colt would be interested in all the glittering coins located beneath the surface of the water, but what Happy Endings was really focused on was his own reflection. He needed to look perfect if he was going to attract admirers and he was spending a large amount of time fixing his hair. Unfortunately, the fact that he was staring down into the water meant whenever he brushed his hair aside it tended to fall right back across his face.
With a sigh the foal gave up on his endeavor and settled for leaning against the edge of the fountain to scan those who passed by. Maybe the whole wild haired look would be appealing to a few phony. If he had been more confident in his charm he wouldn't have been so worried about his appearance. Of course, being an expert flirt was something he was still working on, no matter how perfect he may be otherwise. He needed more practice and was determined to get it.

Dabber was not the type of foal to steal the coins out of fountains, partially because they were all just right there and where was the fun in that? There was also a part of him that considered the "stealing" aspect, but only after his Momma had brought it up.
Still, that was some of the most interesting stuff at the park aside from digging in the sand box, but there were all kinds of tiny foals wiggling around in there.
He eyed the flutter already leaning by the fountain and offered him a slight smile. That being done, he hopped up onto his back hooves and peered into the water. Coins were, as a general rule, mostly the same, but every once in a while there was a neat one for picking. Dabber had a small coin pouch to replace whatever he took, partially supplemented by Mama Latte's tip jar.

Another foal had approached the fountain, which had momentarily stopped Happy's preening. It was another colt like himself and the flutter couldn't help but wonder what it was the other boy was doing. He doubted they could be sharing the same activity of admiring their own reflections, because no one was nearly as handsome as him. Of course, that didn't mean less attractive people didn't think so highly of themselves, so it couldn't be entirely ruled out.
Watching curiously for a moment, the colt gave a snort. The other boy was probably interested in all the money laying about under the surface of the water it seemed. How juvenile. The flutter shook his head with a scoff as he resumed grooming himself. He couldn't help but smirk. Wasn't he so mature? He wasn't the least bit interested in swiping coins from the fountain. It was a miracle ladies could resist him.

Dabber paid no mind to the other foal as he searched through the coins. His horn glowed as he shifted the loot around beneath the water. Metal made a rather pleasant sound when it clinked, didn't it?
A-ha! Were coins supposed to have holes in them? Dabber was pretty sure not, or at least the ones he had seen had not. He tried to lift the coin from the water, but came up with a different one instead, so he took with him a clump of coins, concentrating deeply. He'd just wanted the one...
The foal backed up, backed up, watching his prize intently, and suddenly lost his footing. He tripped backward over a stone, landing belly-up in the mud as his precious booty crashed back into the water with a mighty splash.
"GAUGH!"

The purple flutter had started practicing his smolder in his reflection. He needed to figure out what facial expression looked the sexiest so he would have any easier time charming the pants off any phony he faced. As he was concentrating on his appearance the surface of the water started to ripple and his reflection blurred. The colt looked up in annoyance towards the unicorn who also stood beside the fountain.
With a glare he crossed his hooves, waiting for the other foal to stop messing around with the water. He snorted, noticing that the other child was after the coins in the water. A whole clump of them in fact. The colt clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth. How greedy, not that Happy could actually talk.
Happy Endings started to tap a hoof as he waited, but his patience was rewarded by a humorous sight. The other colt had lost his footing and fallen backwards into a puddle of mud. For a moment the purple colt could do nothing but blink in surprise, until it hit him what had just happened and he snickered loudly.
"Pffft. Nice job genius." He chuckled, leaning against the fountain as he eyed the other foal.

What else could Dabber do? He stood indignantly and glowered at the pretty-boy foal nearby. What, had he never fallen? There was nothing funny about having mud in your hair... and on your butt! Indeed the grime was smeared across most of his back and right hip as well. It would take some doing to get it out of the pods at his cheeks.
"What're you laughing at?" he asked, taking a threatening step forward. At least it had been meant to be threatening. In reality he only slipped on his hoof stumbled to his knees. "AUHHGH."
Nearby, a little filly started to giggle. Dabber could feel his cheeks heating up. Gah, the unfairness of it all!

grasshopper pie xD Dabber is totes welcome to cover Happy in mud.
The flutter looked all too pleased with himself, until he noticed the aggressive moves the larger colt was making. Or, it would have been threatening if the other boy hadn't promptly slipped. This only increased Happy's mirth.
"What. A. Klutz." He cackled, wings abuzz with delight.

The little girl was fine, but this little buzzing twit was being a jerk! Anger bubbled up inside of Dabberlocks until it hit his peak.
Revenge was a course better served by pirates, but maybe just this once...
Dabber approached the foal and shook off a healthy dose of mud from his hair and into the preening purple jerk's shiny coat. The little filly's mirth became great belly laughs at the action and suddenly the whole situation seemed somehow right. He laughed, not only at the now-muddy flutter, but at himself as he lifted and peered down at a mud-slicked leg.

What a fool that colt was. What an idiot to have fallen into the mud trying to steal coins. Happy felt truly superior with his freshly brushed curls and perfect appearance. He'd barely managed to stop laughing, when suddenly the other foal decided the best solution to his mud problem was to shake himself off.
The flutter shuddered as he felt the cool wet mud smack against his skin and he let out a gasp so sudden and loud it was a surprise the small phony didn't pop from suddenly sucking in so much air.
"You! You filthy cave man!" He huffed, cheeks growing crimson. "How dare you!"

Still laughing, Dabber ignored the indignant response and approached the fountain again, this time plucking the coin from the water manually and replacing it with one from his pouch of a similar size. He figured if he took the time and concentration to use magic, the prissy flutter might try and shove his face in the water.
Still the little filly giggled, although now at the shouting flutter more than the original dirty Dabber. When the green-maned foal dropped the coin into his pouch, he smirked at the flutter. Well, he had deserved that one! It was nothing a romp in the lake or a warm bath couldn't fix.

The purple flutter was turning red in the face from anger, but he couldn't let this simpleton get the bet of him. Taking a deep breath, Happy ran a hoof through his hair, flicking off some of the mud in disgust. The colt let out a quiet "humph" as he held his head up high.
"Uncivilized brutes," he murmured, shaking his head as he tried to walk away in a cool manner. He'd have to go home and get his mama to help him get the mud off.

It was the little girl's laughter that echoed throughout the park as both foals left, Dabber still chuckling as he trotted off to show his sister his prize.
