He had to get out more, it was honestly a fact that was driven home every time that he heard someone on the island got hurt, or stranger. Like that…guy who said a thing about vampirism on the ‘blog’ site. The scar on his own chest didn’t hurt anything; he had a reminder every time he looked in the mirror, a knot of white scars against darker skin. He headed back to the training grounds on the hopes of meeting new people, and hopefully learning not to be completely trounced in the fight. Days like this he wondered how they had been so damn convincing as to ‘why giving up your old life, being dead to the rest of the world and then shortening your life expectancy considerably hunting monsters’ had seemed like a good idea. Then again, did he really want to see things like that, Shadow woman loose in the world? Probably it didn’t say a lot of good things about the general mental state of anyone on the island, including him. He let out a breath not seeing anyone immediately and ran a hand through his hair.

They had to train more. It was a matter of being practical. Regardless of how much time Noah spent in the labs or the "party healer" role that he was likely to end up playing, there were still time when he was going to have to fight, and he wasn't very good at fighting. That was the problem, and theoretically it could be solved by practice. I'm just not good at it, he said to Laz. YOU ARE SMART BUT YOU ARE BEING DUMB, the weapon replied with a burbling snort. I AM HUNGRY AND WE WILL FIGHT SO YOU MUST GO AND FIGHT."Like it's that easy," Noah muttered as he trudged up to the training grounds. IT IS NOT EASY. DO IT ANYWAY."I'm going already, sheesh." There was someone standing aimlessly on the fields, looking like he didn't have anything to do, and maybe that guy was in the same boat as him, needing to have a fight but not really having anyone to practice with. "Um, hi?" Noah called out, hesitantly. "Are you busy?" Maybe the guy was going to be busy or just leaving or something, and then Noah would be back where he'd started, but it was worth a try, right?

The young sun hunter turned to face the person addressing him and looked surprised for a second that he was indeed the person being addressed, and then nodded. “Ah, yeah! No I’m not busy!” He grinned. “Are you looking for a training partner?” He offered a hand to Noah and grinned, a wide white toothed smile. “Zac, pleased to meet you! Happy to ah…well probably get my arse kicked eh?”

Noah nodded back, smiling tentatively. "Laz was complaining about not getting any fighting, um, Laz is my weapon, so I came down to see if anyone would feel like sparring, so I guess I am." He shook Zac's hand, his grip a little hesitant at first but then firming a bit. "I'm Noah, it's nice to meet you. You're probably going to kick my a**, I'm not very good at this," he apologized. He let go and moved back a few steps, raising his left hand; the chain wrapped around his wrist glowed faintly, then vanished in a flash of white light, reforming into a heavy cleaver with a bony structure wrapped around it. He held the grip tightly and offered Zac a nervous smile.

He gave a pleasant laugh and nodded. “Yeah, its … its different having something… someone I guess who can chat in your head like this. “But… I wouldn’t bet too hard that you’ll get your a** kicked. He looked VERY impressed by the weapon too, summoning his own weapon, a curved spear of a sort, cupped at the rear edge with a crystalline wing shape.

"Oh, um. Are you new? Like, not used to it yet? It took me a while to get used to having something else in my head with me. But I don't, like, notice much anymore, like, it stopped being weird. Mostly. Um. Sorry, I talk a lot sometimes," Noah finished sheepishly. He was never totally sure how to start a spar. When it was a real fight, whatever was attacking you just came at you, it wasn't ambiguous, but when you were just practicing, someone had to start. Operating on that thought, maybe he should just go for it, because in a real fight you usually didn't have much warning that someone or something was going to hit you, and sparring was practice, right? Without warning Zac beforehand, he charged, bringing Laz up in an angled slashing motion towards Zac's midsection, and was startled to feel the resistance of a solid hit. "Sorry," he yelped, and skittered back. HP: 40/40 Dmg: 6 Charge: 1/3

“Not SUPER new but…Ooph!” He was startled by the vigor and direction of the attack but grinned in the end. “Don’t apologize!” He scolded. “It’s a good hit and trust me, I’ve had worse!” He swung low, aiming for a leg, it was very light though, more a ding than anything that would hope to be crippling. “My weapon, she just startles me at times by having opinions that are just…so much her own.” HP: 34 Dmg: 3 Charge: 1/3

"I really didn't, like, fight before," Noah confessed. A silent prompt from Laz pressed against his mind, and he skipped back from the pain at his leg, circling sideways, his eyes darting down, up, back down, watching Zac's shoulders and hips, more from instinct than from conscious analysis. "They're, they're not us. More than us. Different." He watched carefully, waited until Zac left himself open for a fraction of a second, let Laz guide his lunge, down and crouch and up with a twisting motion that brought the edge of the blade up in a vicious curving arc across Zac's chest and throat. The weapon howled, guttural, hungry, satisfied. HP: 37/40 Dmg: 5 Charge: 2/3

Air hissed between his teeth at the vicious arc, it made him grateful for the safeties in place on the training grounds. “For someone who didn’t really fight before mate, you’re pretty dang good.” He spun his blade, testing an idea and stabbing for a shoulder. It was a superficial hit at best. “Funny how…close they can be though isn’t it? I met one, she does tattoos like me, weird though that is, she does bloody tattoos…and then I also ran across this, crazy thing, detachable hands. She did one hell of a number on me that’s for sure.” HP: 29 Dmg: 1 Charge: 2/3

"They help. The weapons," Noah explained. "Like, if you have a weapon that's a bow, even if you never picked up a bow in your life they can give you the basics. I've been practicing," he added, reeling back from the pricking jab and then throwing his arm into a sideways chop at Zac's leg. "I mean, it's not like using a meat cleaver is advanced tactics or something, but you never know if you're gonna have to fight even if you don't think you'll have to?" Laz's runes lit up in cold, bright white as he fed off Zac's shield, and the sense of tautness in Noah's mind intensified, the avid attention of a charged weapon. HP: 36/40 Dmg: 4 Charge: 3/3

“You’re defiantly showing a talent for it.” Zac sounded impressed; Noah was doing well for himself that was for certain. “I think if things continue in this vein, you’ll have this fight in the bag Mate.” He gave an appreciative nod, after all, you learned things by trying, and failing, you learned more by trying again. "Um. Thanks." Noah let the spear drive in along his side, lunging in and past the blade to bring Laz up and under along Zac's ribcage, feeling the pull of Laz's hunger on his mind and up through the bones of his arm. The blade landed solidly, digging deep, and the satisfaction Laz felt blended briefly into Noah's satisfaction in his skill, seamless and whole for half a heartbeat. HP: 32/40 Dmg: 8 Charge: 3/3
