Luxor was not usually the type of guy who left his carnival to patrol outside or in the city very often. He liked keeping the grounds of the theme park safe and youma free, as well as chasing off any Chaos auras he felt within a close radius to the place. There would not be a repeat of what happened the last time he opened the place, that was certain in his mind.
But some times, he just needed some space from his home, and he returned to the city to see if he could be useful to it. Maybe it was the small glimpses of the future that he got in his dreams, or what Zia told him about, but he knew he needed to have more of a connection to this place, and those in it.
He had these powers for a reason, and so far, he had not been fulfilling his duty. Whatever that meant, he at least knew he was not doing it right. Not yet, anyway.
He knew his personal goals, yes, and he was more than happy to dedicate himself to two simple ideals: protecting Zia, and protecting his carnival. But there was more than that out there, and he wanted to explore it, a little, every now and then.
So here he was, in the city, powered up and wandering in the shadows so no one saw the strange, half clothed man. In case anyone was up this late, anyway. Of course, he was fairly used to people thinking he was an odd ball based solely on his knight outfit.

Megrez, looking to unwind a little from frantic (or not-so-frantic, really) songwriting, had opted to patrol tonight. Her efforts on the preparing-for-the-ritual front had not quite been successful, given that all she had done was stare at the page, flip between the Hymmnos grammar and lexicon pages, and fiddle around. Tonight seemed to be different from the others; it seemed that more powered people than usual were out and about. Why was something of a mystery; maybe it had warmed up a little bit? Speculation aside, Megrez felt something unusual coming near: a Squire aura. It wasn't that she had never felt a Squire aura before (she had felt it plenty of times from Megiddo); it was simply that she hadn't felt quite as many Knight auras as she had senshi ones. Approaching where she felt sure the aura was coming from, she called out: "Hello, Squire! Come on out! Just one senshi here." It might have sounded a bit suspicious, but she sure hoped it didn't sound that way.

Luxor turned when he was spoken to, hoping the aura he had felt coming toward him would just go past, or ignore him as two ships passing in the night. It never really worked out that way, and he knew that many of the other White Moon folks were much more out going than he was. He looked at her for a long moment, not smiling.
Not really making any sort of expression.
Luxor did not wear his emotions on his sleeve. Or anywhere. he had a very bland personality that made it impossible to read him, because he did not seem to have emotions. That was not true: he felt things, he just did not show that he did.
"Hello," he said flatly, nodding his head once in greeting as he came out and spotted her nearby. "Are you patrolling tonight?"

The Knight was already proving to be a hard man to gauge. While he was making eye contact and didn't seem to be actively retreating, Megrez expected something of a warmer reaction. Perhaps she had just been hanging around her established friends too much. She responded, keeping up her good energy: "Yep, just patrolling! Took a break from something I was doing earlier and decided to step out. I've actually found more people than usual tonight. It's kind of weird. And you? Are you going around looking for bad guys to send away, or focusing more on a stroll?" She thought it was a valid question. There were some nights where she just wanted to walk around the city instead of actively hunting. Being a senshi gave a person a lot to think about on a walk.

Luxor nodded his head slowly, once she said she was patrolling. That was good to hear, as he liked to know that there were always senshi out and about, taking care of things. He did feel guilty that he did not contribute more, sometimes, but he was doing his best to make up for it.
He needed more allies, and wanted others to know that he was actually out there and available to help... even if he was a bit of a stick in the mud. He cared, it was just very hard to say it.
Or show it.
"I was looking for bad guys," he said blandly, glancing around, though he did not feel any other auras nearby.
He used his powers at his carnival all the time for things not related to knight work, but that was in the safety of his familiar domain. Out here, he felt like he had to stay on task, and that he needed to be on patrol and making a difference.
"We can patrol together if you want, and look for some youma?" Unless she did not want company, which he could understand. He was not exactly sure how working with others really... worked...

"Sounds good! While it's nice to take a walk and clear your head, when you start out intending to go on the prowl, I think it helps rev you up." Megrez knew that what she went out to do that night definitely affected her patrolling behavior and patterns; if she just wanted to walk around, she'd be a bit slower and more erratic, but if she was out to hunt, she would be more efficient. Luxor's invitation to patrol went over well. "I'd be happy to patrol with you! Two heads are better than one, anyway." She took a few steps to direct the Squire as to where she intended to go, then asked, "Is this area along your usual patrol path?"

Luxor nodded his head slowly, not making any particular expression. He did at least seem to be giving off a friendly air, if that were possible, despite the lack of smiles. He wanted her to feel at ease with him, and was trying the best he could.
With his limited abilities.
He followed her lead, shaking his head slowly and looking around. He was not sure he had ever patrolled in this area before, and had just ended up here on accident, for the most part. But that seemed like the best way to get things done, sometimes.
"I don't usually patrol away from the Carnival area, but I thought I would come and see if anyone needed help. I need to get out of my usual routine, if I can..."

"The carnival area..." Megrez tried to think and walk at the same time. "I don't think I've been there before. Where is it? Maybe I'll help you patrol around there sometime. Do a lot of youma come by there?" The image of some youma upsetting a popcorn dispenser and snacking away brought a twitch of a smile to her face. "Do they steal the food?" she asked despite herself. She found herself wondering why this Squire favored the carnival area, but surely it was just an important place to him, or close to where he lived.

"It's just outside the town, not too far. It's quiet, though, and I think my patrols there are helping keep it safe."
He had been putting in all the effort he could to ensure the area was youma and negaverse free, or at least as close to it as it could be, and thankfully it seemed to be making a difference. Ever since that large scale attack on his home and carnival he had been a dutiful guard.
Something like that would never happen again, not if he could prevent it.
And he would.
"I don't really know what youma want, but they are not coming around as much any more. Where do you usually patrol? I could always help you out, too." If she wanted a difficult to talk to, quiet, grumpy, half naked knight as her company.

"I'm sure they are! Your patrols, I mean. Every little bit counts." Megrez meant that. Every cleaned-up youma or turned-aside Negaverse agent meant that someone's journey through the city would be a lot safer. "Hmm... where do I usually patrol?" The question was legitimately difficult for her to answer, so she decided to be general about it. "Here, there, and everywhere. I generally favor the parks and the streets connecting them. Lots of powered people pass through the parks for some reason."

Luxor nodded his head stiffly.
Really, he felt like this was going well. He thought that she was friendly, and she seemed to be taking to him, even though he was standoffish and impossible to read. Most folks tended to think he was being a jerk, and just stop talking to him when he failed to say hi in an enthusiastic, or even half hearted, way.
"That's a good point. I suppose the Negaverse would go where there are more civilians to drain, or Senshi to fight. So those are the areas most people patrol. I want to be able to protect more people... I don't think I'm doing enough."
He knew that he was keeping his home safe, but there was more to it than that now. Finding someone that helped him open his heart a bit, as Zia had done, showed him that there was more to life than just the things he valued. While they would always come first and he would protect them with everything that he was, he was given this power for more than that.
Probably.
"Do you feel like you make a difference when you patrol?" It was sort of a personal question, but he wanted to see how others went about their duties, and what they felt they were doing or needed to do to help.

"Well, it's good that you're making an effort, then," Megrez said in response to Luxor's feeling that he wasn't doing enough. "It's never too late to step up and start doing what you've gotta do. Better late than never." The next question was both hard and easy to answer at the same time. If Megrez felt like putting a lot of thought into the question, she would be less certain and a bit more cautious. She didn't, though, and so her answer came quickly. "Yes! Every little thing you can do makes a difference. Every youma you dust, every lieutenant you chase off... it can save lives."

Luxor nodded his head and found himself smiling, though that was a very rare occurrence for him. Especially in company that he was not super familiar with. Hell, even the people that knew him well and considered him a friend were not really exposed to his smiles all that often.
But he took comfort in her words, and her effort to make him feel better about his efforts, old and new. He wanted to go out and do just that, what she said. Step up, do what he had to do. First, he just needed to finally decide what that was, and how to do it.
Maybe he needed to talk to someone a little more seriously about it. He was not sure where to find that someone, but Zia would know. Hopefully.
"You're right. We all make a difference just by trying. I appreciate the reminder... I guess it's easy to get... distracted by doubt. I should probably head back, now that I think about it. There's someone I want to talk to about all this. You've helped me think things through a bit more."

"Good to hear!" Megrez said, enthused by the idea that her one-off remark may have actually inspired someone. "Yeah, sometimes it's hard not to lose confidence, but you just have to remember: you're helping, and hopefully someday you'll be able to work your way up and get powerful enough to make even bigger differences." She stopped walking, waiting to see which direction the Squire would go in when he separated from her. "Time to go? I hope your friend gives you good advice. It's great to have friends you can talk to about these big issues, right?" There was an implied assumption that Luxor's friend was powered, but perhaps it wouldn't have made a difference. Sometimes non-powered people worked well with "hypotheticals" that were actually real.

Sami-Fire Hey no worries! I'm always around =] I think this is fin from me! Luxor nodded his head.
"If you ever need to find me, if you need help or anything so I can repay the favor of you helping me, you can find me at the Carnival, okay? Have a good night."
He looked at her seriously, but actually managed a very small smile, which was profound for him when he was with strangers. He nodded his head in a small bow and then moved to turn off and head back toward his usual path home. He would go back to the carnival grounds, see if Zia was around, then go and try to find Camelot for some advice.
It seemed like as good a plan as any, really. He wanted to better himself, and Zia spoke very highly of Camelot.
