Camelot had finally managed to push a lot of his worries from his mind, though it was certainly difficult to at the moment. He had a lot on his plate, as it were, both personally and in his powered life.
His son had nearly been killed, which was hard enough to deal with, though he was woefully getting rather used to it after finding out that Nathan was also an Eternal Senshi named Chaonis, and had been fighting in this war longer than Tony, Camelot, himself had been. It was always hard for him to wrap his mind around that.
Chaonis opted to try and fight, and kill, a Negaverse General that had proven over the years to be a very dangerous enemy to their family. He nearly killed her, despite being badly injured, but Camelot stepped in. He stopped his son from making a mistake, and took him to the hospital to help him, but also took the time to take care of the job he had protected his son from. He hated death, hated being its harbinger, but he knew it was better for him to bear the weight of it, and any consequences, than his son.
Still, being a killer did not sit well with him. It was not something he ever wanted to resort to, and still wondered if there had been another way to protect his family.
He was out patrolling tonight because Nathan was doing better in the hospital and was much stronger each day, which was good to see. He needed the air and the space, needing to get away from the hospital and only imagining how bad it felt for Nathan himself to be trapped in bed all the time. At least Camelot had the option of getting powered up and going out.
Instead of staying by his usual spot, the library, Camelot was out wandering the streets tonight. It was late enough that he felt safe enough walking around in his armor without normal people spotting him and wondering if he was a crazy person.

There was a huge aura coming closer to Glitnir. The Mars Page was unsure what to do at first. Sure, the aura seemed to be an Order aura, and a Knight aura at that, but what rank or form of Knight had an aura that big and powerful-feeling? Right, he had heard of Royal Knights from Zia, but he never thought he'd actually meet one. What was he supposed to do around someone who was presumably so important? Cautiously, he peeked around a corner to make dead sure that only the mystery Knight was around. It was hard to see this late at night (he'd been out for a drink with some friends and that was more or less the only reason he was even out, but he wasn't too boozed up... probably), but he thought he saw some light glinting off armor. Well, if there was a big Knight aura coming up close, what harm could it do him? Glitnir sidestepped out from behind his corner and waved at the oncoming Royal Knight. "Hi there! What're you doing out here?" He felt he fumbled the introduction a bit. How did one even address Royal Knights, anyway?

Camelot turned at the voice, though he wasn't startled considering he had felt the Order aura approaching him, as well. He was not really one to be surprised or do any surprising these days, as his aura alone often drew people out of the wood work, for better or worse, and he usually felt them on the approach.
He was glad it was someone on his side of the war, though. He was not sure he was ready for another fight with the Negaverse so soon.
"I was just getting a bit of fresh air, really. Doing a little patrolling."
Turning toward the other knight, he nodded his head in proper greeting, a small bow as he was accustomed to doing in a polite way, and he offered the other a friendly look. He did not run into Mars knights very often, he noted absently, offering his hand to the other.
"My name is Camelot, of Earth. Are you out patrolling as well?"

Glitnir accepted the handshake, wondering if this was like shaking hands with a celebrity (though Camelot didn't seem to be the type for much fanfare). "Glitnir of Mars, here! I was out with some friends earlier and decided I'd do a little patrolling while I was already out. I haven't found much other than you tonight, which is a good thing, I guess. One of my friends got a little liquored up... hopefully youma aren't especially attracted to drunk people." He paused, searching for the best way to ask his question. "Camelot... you're a Royal Knight, right? I mean, the aura kind of says it all, but I want to know for sure."

Camelot tilted his head at that, though he had, once or twice, gone out and powered up after spending some time with friends, or just sitting alone in a bar on a bad day. He did not make a comment, though his instincts were to be adult and over some fatherly advice on the subject. He did not know this knight well enough for that, just yet.
It didn't take much, of course, but still. He couldn't lead with a lecture.
"It's nice to meet you, then, Glitnir. How about we patrol a bit, since you're here?"
And he could maybe keep an eye on him, just to make sure he was okay. If his friend had gotten drunk, Camelot could only assume there was a little drinking all around. He wouldn't sleep well that night, if he managed to go to bed at all, without knowing they were okay.
"I am a Royal Knight, yes. It can be... uh... a bit difficult to get things done, with an aura like this. But for the most part, the Negaverse tend to stay away, and Knights and Senshi come to investigate. So it works out for me."

"Patrolling together sounds great! I haven't found much so far, and two heads are better than one, after all." Glitnir nodded when Camelot mentioned the difficulties of his aura; it certainly made sense, given that he could feel for himself how big and important and powerful the aura felt. "I imagine the Negaverse would stay away if they knew what was good for them. You could probably just flick them away with one finger. Not saying that you would blow them away like that, of course. Only that it seems like you could." He remembered certain conversations he had had in the past. Some people held back and were careful when they fought, and some others went all out. "So, where's your usual patrol route? I tend to start from Destiny City University and go wherever from there." Hopefully stating his typical starting location didn't reveal or imply too much.

Camelot agreed, in most cases. Having another person to help out during a patrol not only made them easier, but sometimes made them more tolerable. There were nights when being alone was, of course, a welcome respite, but most of the time Camelot felt better in company. He did not like to be alone with his thoughts for too long.
Right now he was teetering between both extremes, somehow. He wanted company, but he felt so conflicted and torn up inside about what he had done to protect his family, he also felt like he needed to be alone for a while. Maybe a good patrol with a younger knight would help him clear his head a bit more.
It certainly could not hurt. Glitnir seemed nice enough, and it was always good to meet new knights and get to know them.
"I don't think I'm quite that strong," he said with a laugh, trying to imagine flicking someone away. That would be nice, and it would end battles before they even began. "My usual patrol route is near the library. I start from there and, like you, end up anywhere. We can patrol on your grounds, if you'd like."

Glitnir thought for a moment about whether to patrol his grounds or not, then decided to go with it. "Sure! The university is... this way, I think," he said, starting off in a slightly different direction. As he looked over his shoulder to make sure Camelot was following, he remembered his little quest for answers. Should he ask his Important Question so soon? Well, he had done it when he first met that Kairatos fellow, so perhaps he could do it now. "Um, hey, would you mind if I asked you kind of a personal question? It's got nothing to do with your identity or anything. It's just something I've been asking around about, trying to see what others think so I can make a decision on something."

Camelot nodded his head and followed Glitnir, though he remembered where the university was as they started to walk. He had gotten all too used to the lay out of the city, and could now walk around without any fear of getting lost. It used to be that he was always lost, but he supposed having the ability to power up and jump up to a roof to see where he was really helped with that.
Not that he ever just powered up because he was not sure where he was... that would be reckless and make him look silly. Obviously. Definitely not something he had ever done. Except maybe once. Or twice.
But definitely not as a Royal Knight.
"Personal question? Sure, I don't think I mind. I'm here to help as much as I can, after all, so you can ask me anything you'd like." Even his identity was something he would share with other knights, to help them if they needed to know where to find him or how to contact him. This sounded a little more complicated than that, though, and he could not help but be curious about the question.
"What did you want to know?"

Glitnir hesitated for a moment, still waffling over whether to ask his question, then caved in and came out with it. "Have you killed, or do you know anyone who has? I guess you could say I'm taking a survey. I met someone a while back who had just come from killing a Negaverse agent, and I wasn't really sure what to make of it... so I'm seeing how others think before I make my own decision." His mind flashed back to the bloody Saturn Knight. She was so cavalier about taking a life, yet the others he had met so far took it quite seriously. Perhaps she was an anomaly and not everyone was so gung-ho about purging the world of Chaos. He knew he wasn't; most of the lieutenants he had met so far seemed to be either harmless or otherwise unthreatening, so why should they die? It was important to chase them away from civilians, but like Kairatos said, there were other ways of handling the problem.

Camelot was surprised by the question, looking at the other knight for a long moment before he glanced away and cleared his throat.
"Some people believe taking a life is a right of passage, or a necessary part of this war, and perhaps many others would agree with them. For me, it is never a choice to be made lightly, and certainly not something to be proud of afterwards. These people we are fighting are tainted by a force beyond their control, regardless of how they might seem to enjoy it. Chaos is a corruptive force, and the longer they are exposed to it, the worse it gets for them. Beyond that, they are the children, the parents, the wives or husbands of any of us, and we might never know until it is too late, and they are gone. They could be our best friend when we are powered down, and our worst enemy while we are powered up. It's not an easy decision to make, at least not for me. And it shouldn't be. Lives are precious, and no one is lost forever. Chaos can be driven out of a starseed: purification is a better way to even the odds."
He took a breath, not meaning to slip into a lecture, but finding he was very prone to doing that these days. He had been fighting for too long, he supposed, and learned and saw too much.
"I have killed before, in battle. I did not mean to, the first time. I have only made the conscious decision to end someone's life once, and even that guilt bears down on me. No matter what the 'greater good' might be, or who and what we are protecting by making the choices we do, there are always consequences. They must be weighed, and respected, either way."

Glitnir listened patiently, nodding, trying to take in the older man's every word. What he was saying seemed to line up with Kairatos's way of thinking that those under the influence of Chaos were not irredeemable. "I see... I met a guy who said the same thing. He's a Mars Knight." He thought he could get a sense of Camelot's heavy heart through his words. "Can you tell me about the time you chose to kill? If it's too much, you don't have to. I'm just... I'm trying to figure out what makes people kill in this war. The other Mars Knight, he mentioned a senshi who killed a bunch of lieutenants in a horrible, brutal way, though he didn't really tell me why that guy did it." Once he got that answer, he was going to have to ask if Camelot could purify people, like Zia mentioned that Royal Knights could a little while back.

Camelot shook his head, not minding the questions, though it was difficult for him to think about. He believed whole heartedly that he had done the right thing. Or at least he told himself that was what he believed.
"The person I killed knowingly was not actually that long ago. I am still dealing with the emotional fall out for it, to be honest, but at the end of the day I have to believe what I did was necessary, even if it was not, by definition, right. This Negaverse General was hunting my family and friends, and trying to kill them one by one. She attacked my son, a Senshi, and he fought back. He almost killed her, but to spare him the trauma of such a terrible choice for a young person to make, I stepped in. I took care of what needed to be done, but I don't... relish what I did. I don't know, really, if there was no other choice or not."
Painite said she would never give up, but who was he to know if that was true or not? Maybe she could have been redeemed or stopped another way, but it had been too dangerous, and he could not put all the people he loved at risk for the off chance she was not as bad as she seemed.
And she had been the worst he had seen in some time.
"Killing is very... personal, and every makes their own decisions about it. Some more flippantly than others, and some believe it is the only way. Others do it to make a point, or because they enjoy it. I don't believe it is something to be taken lightly, and should never be easy."

Glitnir's eyes widened. It wasn't like Camelot had just emerged fresh from the battlefield, but from how the man spoke about the kill, he might as well have. Whoever this General was, she sounded seriously messed up, and that was putting it lightly. "Unbelievable," he said, though he wasn't sure which was more shocking: the fact that this guy had family (his son, no less) in the powered business or the fact that he had a Negaverse General after everything precious to him. Another thought he had was that Camelot was a good dad, stepping in to protect his son and bear the burdens for him. "I see," Glitnir said after Camelot's conclusion. "It's like everything in this war comes down to a case-by-case basis. I'm not sure what I was expecting, I mean, everyone's head gets messed with a little differently in this war." The thought of a case-by-case basis made him remember his other question. "Sorry to change the subject, but... are you able to purify Negaverse agents? Someone I talked to a little while back said that Royal Knights could purify."

Camelot was all too glad for the subject change, looking almost regal as he nodded his head. It was not really his intention, but his armor and flowing cape really drove home the idea of his rank. He was not a vain or proud sort of guy, but he did take pride in his work, and being able to purify was one thing he treasured.
Even if it was a difficult process, for all involved.
"I can. If a Negaverse soldier is willing and decides they want to purify, then I can help them become Knights. We're two sides of the same coin, though some times it does not seem so."
It was easy to forget that some of the people in the Negaverse were even people at all. The evil things they did, the way they enjoyed it and seemed to live only for the thrill of that evil, made it seem like they were more monster than many of the youma the White Moon spent their time dusting. But Camelot tried to remember that there could still be something inside them that wanted change, and that purification was always an option.
"I've done it a few times, and I try to keep the knowledge out there that I am willing to help anyone that wants the help. So if you do find someone that wants to talk about purification, you can always send them to me."
