(Visitors welcome to stop by)
Rannon smiled to herself, occasionally glancing in the mirror at the horse trailer as the old Chevy bounced down the dusty road. She couldn't see the horse it contained but couldn't help herself. What would everyone think of her find? Goodness knew they needed a mare her on the ranch, but she hadn't known when she had laid a claim on the fiery little black that she would have gotten second in her first race. That was promising, and she hoped her compatriots would agree. Sometimes she felt a little odd, surrounded by such young adults, but that was an occupational hazard owning a new horse farm.
Her border collie Yang grinned at her from the passenger side. He had come when she had called while his sister Yin had just kinda popped an eyelid open before falling back asleep by the fire...traitor. She pulled into the parking lot and tousled his ears. "Lets go wreak havoc."
Veridian was sitting outside the stables when he saw the trailor pull up. There was no cell service up her so he had no idea how the claiming race had gone. He sauntered over and raised an inquisitive eyebrow. Her ruse would have worked too, the dejected head bowed, if he hadn't of seen the trailer vibrate, confirming that there was something large inside. But he waited for her to say it.
"Hey Ver, the claim went well I er did manage to get a horse, why don't you take a look?"
"Its not another stud is it? You should have seen the look Coyote gave the last one we brought in..."
"Ohh Rannon! You're back! Did you get someone? Did you? Did you?" The rapid fire speel came from a tiny pixie of a jockey who seemed to float across the ground. She drifted over to the trailer and climbed up to peek before Rannon could even answer her. "Oooh ~"
Rannon grinned while Veridian just shook his head at the jockies exuberance, he thought that Missy might be half thoroughbred herself and one of the highstrung ones at that.

"No its not another stud, shes a mare that won 2nd in her maiden race. I can't say I've heard of her parents but from her first race its promising don't you think?" She wondered what they thought, Veridian was smart but reserved, but if anyone was a match for this mare she kinda thought this would be his. He didn't get along so well with the stallions for some reason.
Veridian opened the back of the trailer and untied the dark lady she was huffing and puffing her eyes rolling so he calmed her down before stepping her out. "Shes almost a pure black," he said glancing over her.
Rannon knew she had him as soon as Tal walked over, he was their other jockey and a possesive light lit in Veridian's eyes. Yup that was his horse, she would see to it that Monzon Kaida, which was the little female's name would be written on Veridian's chart.
Tal patted her nose benignly, "Second? Really? Hmm, pretty good for such a new girl hey? Not a prominant stable was it?"
"No not a prominant one, from what I gather they have a few brood mares and sell the babies."
"Pity." Tal was big on the prominant stables. But he had chosen to sign on with them anyway.

Later after the mare who was called "Monzon Kaida" had been stabled. Rannon called Veridian into her office which was covered in a variety of papers, it was sort of organized but you couldn't really see it. She brushed some papers off her desk so he had at least a place to sit down.
"I see you like our new mare, she has proven herself in her first race, I'm luck to have picked her. A palomino mare called "Sunlit Hare" was the only one to beat her, she also bears watching." Rannon paused. "I asked you in here to ask your opinion on something, Monzon has raced while our stallions have not."
"We could breed her now and get an older foal come racing season or we could wait and have a younger foal with potentially better bloodlines depending on the success of its sire. What do you think we should do? And what stallion do you think shows the most promise as a sire for our little fireball."

Veridian rubbed the stubble that had appeared on his jaw since the morning. "Let me have some time with her, I want to see how she runs in comparison to the three boys. I should have something of an answer by nightfall." He nodded polietly and sidled out of her mess...er office. She did need to clean the thing.
Rannon smirked at his back, just like Veridian, no straight answer until he had figured things out for himself.

Later that day as the light faded from the inky sky Veridian found Rannon patting Caustic Sunshine in the barn. The ornery stallion liked to scare both stable hands as they walked by so Rannon had volunteered to be his groom.
"Reached a descision yet?" She raised an eyebrow at her ponderous staffmember.
"Yes I have, she would do well paired with Sunshine actually, add more fire to fire I say. Will make one spicey baby I reckon."
"Very well then, I'll set that up ASAP."
"Rannon? Thanks for letting me be involved.'
"Thats what I'm here for Ver, I knew she was special to you when I saw that look on your face."
Ver quirked a brow at her and shook his head before walking off to coddle the mare she presumed.

Down the drive comes a white duely pulling an air conditioned trailer behind. Tally, Being the driver, was bringing by her mare for one of Rannon's studs today. She hoped to catch her there but phones don't exactly work up here. so there wasn't any way to call. She had met Rannon at the races. Though Tally didn't win, she set up this breeding with Rannon between Sahara Heat and Coyote Wind. When the turn turned to the side as it slowed in the drive, they could hear the diesel engine turn off. A sound soon followed that rang loud and high and spoke of abundant spirit. The excited whinny of Sahara in the trailer and her scrape of her hooves on the trailer floor. Thumping around in there and searingly ready to be out. Sahara knew she was meeting a stud today, and that she was going somewhere new. She never really liked to be in the trailer and its tinted windows for very long, so she was making a fuss. She snorted and pawed at the trailer floor with angst, being the hot tempered mare she was. Tally Rolled her eyes and unbuckled her seat belt, and grabbed her hat before stepping down out of the truck. It was pretty up here, and she looked about, placing her brown leather cowboy hat on her head. She braced her hands on her lower back and gave a stretch, they had been on the road for a while and she hadn't stopped during the trip, knowing how Sahara didn't like the trailer. "Oh hush you!" Tally said back at the trailer, turning to walk toward the back end doors. " I'm getting you out. such a fuss."

Rannon heard the stallion alarm go off. Really Sunshine was better then the dogs...who were both curled up in a ball at her feet. "Real professional you two." She patted them anyways on her way out. She two clean mugs and filled them with coffee stuffing sugar packets and creamer in her pocket just in case. She toed open the door and almost got overended by the tardy canine cavalry. She snorted.
"Good day Tally! I hope the ride was alright!" She peeked around the back of the trailer to check on the unloading progress. "Do you want to put her in the exercise pen first to get used to the area or do you think she would prefer her stall? Veridian has one all made up in the small barn, its quieter there, we will be using it for visitors and foaling mares, I wouldn't want to put her in with the three lugs in the main stable yet."
"Those clever boys have no doubt figured out who is visiting today already."

The dog Calvary that was late, made her smile that crooked grin as she heard them bark. The stud alarm had made her laugh before. She was unlatching the back trailer doors when Rannon peered around the end of the trailer. Hearing her question over the racket Sahara was making she replied " I think we should put her in the exercise pen at first. she is restless and needs to work out some of her jitters.. Oh and the ride was long but thankfully uneventful." Tally opened up the trailer and walked in, the cool air from the unit coasting out of the door, She came to Sahara's side, who went quiet as soon as the doors were open. Tally took Sahara's lead rope and attached it to her dark red halter and started to back her out of the trailer. Tally had only gotten to describe what Sahara Heat looked like briefly at the races, but now Rannon can see a lovely red sorrel rump backing out into the sunlight from within the dark trailer. Sahara was complaint because she wanted out and she knew if she made a fuss now, Tally would poke her right back in there until she behaved. After a moment there stood Sahara Heat, The pride mare of Mirror Mist Stables. Her rich sorrel colors and whites were vibrant, means a fact Tally had washed her up before the trip. even her hooves were polished. Sahara's nose was wide open for the smells of the Stallions here, unknown to the humans she wondered witch of these smells belonged to HER Stud. Her head was risen and she made restless movements of her body from side to side, almost like prancing in place.

"Oh my what a lovely lady you have! All dressed up too." She smiled. We bathed the boys yesterday but im afraid they have all quite happily had a good roll in the sawdust by now. Our two stable hands should be cleaning them up right about now."
Rannon offered Tally the mug off coffe. "I brought cream and sugar with me if you need it. I find I always appreciate something warm after a long drive."
Yin and Yang waited patiently until Sahara was released into the exersize pen before bustling over to pester Tally with their greeting. "This is Yin and Yang, the token farm dogs..even though the horse does a better job with guarding then they do. Care to see our studly boys? They are in the main barn just over here."
"Sidewinder will be the first on you see, Sunshine will pop his head out of his stall when you walk by until he sees me then he will calm right down. Apparently he likes me over the other two stable hands who have a lot more time to dote on him..silly thing. Finally Coyote will be at the other end relaxed mostly unless he has detected your mare. You can make your final descision then. I'm afraid none have been raced yet but they are signed up. Monzon Kaida is the black mare you see over there, we resently got her from a claiming race. Our first mare, I am very excited."

Tally smiled with no small measure of pride at Rannon, Listening to her explain things. She gratefully took the hot cup of joe in her small hands and lifted it to her lips, taking in the bitter scent of good black coffee. "No, Like mine black, thank you though! mmmm it smells delicious!" She took a careful sip of her hot brew as the led Sahara to the pen. Sahara eyes the awaiting dogs but offered them no harm nor insult. Farm dogs were something that Sahara never bothered with at any rate, so she just followed on. After the lead rope was taken off of Sahara and she was let loose in the pen, she took off in a lovely counted gate around the pen, stretching her fine young legs and catching the smells and sounds of this new place. Tally looked down and held out her hand to Yin, than to yang, petting over their soft noses. " terrible guard dogs are ye?" she snickered, than sat up looking at Rannon. " yes! I would love to see your boys. oh, make sure to tell your farm hands not to give Sahara sugar cubes, she gets jumpy and funny on them. I brought along her feed and tackle for the stay." she went on to explain as she sipped her coffee here and there, turning to head towards Rannon's magnificent barn.
Sahara slowed after a moment or two, and stopped, looking towards the barn where they were going. Her ears lifted and her tail swished behind her painted legs. " that must be where they are" she thought to herself. So she decided to say hi. She lifted her velvety muzzle and opened her mouth giving that high pitched nicker of hers towards the stables, pawing lightly at the soft pen flooring.

Rannon smiled and doused hers in cream and sugar. "I'll be sure to let everyone know she is on a sugar free diet. She has wonderful conformation, I bet she will do well when she starts to race." Rannon said, eyeing the lovely mare as she went. "Oh shes cheeky too." Rannon giggled as three demanding neighs answered the mare from the direction of the barn, and the preggor black mare trotted to the fence line to get aquainted. Rannon walked with Tally and opened the stable doors for her. "Here we are, this is Sidewinder fire." She said as the stallion stuck his nose into the isle to get scent off the newcomer. "He is quite friendly, if a little excitable at times." She rubbed his forehead. "He was our third stallion here. I'm very excited about his coloring, he will look all glossy and shiny on race day." Her voice filled with pride and excitement.

"oh you have no idea" was Tally's reply to Sahara being cheeky. Tally knew all to well that what ever Stud she picks in the upcoming few minuets, Sahara is going to make him work for it. Soon enough they were at Sidewinder's stall, his nose poking out for a smell. Tally lifted her hands and cupped the studs soft nose, her smell laced with that of Sahara and coffee and.. dog.. Familiar ones. But Saharas sweltering scent overtook most of all, clung onto Tally's hands. " oh he is a handsome devil!!! " She exclaimed with a small gasp to her words. " He is going to be a gem on the track indeed! "
Sahara kicked her hind legs in that feisty disposition of hers at the sound off of three studs, but paused as the other mare came to the fence to greet her. Sahara walked to the side of the pen and hung her head over the rails, curious and calming down a bit. "well, hello!" she called out to the mare "you must feel like a queen, having three studs at your disposal." she said playfully, her shoulders still lightly trembling with excitement. New place, new friends and that long ride having her in a slight jumble of feelings.

"Our local pretty boy. Now as we move along this is Caustic's stall, as you can see hes hiding now if I walk by...."
Rannon stopped talking and moved forward. A white face shot out then pulled up short when he saw who it was..then he had the good grace to look a little abashed as Rannon shook her finger at him. "You naughty thing, no one else will put up with you!" She grinned. "He is definitely mine, he hasn't bitten anyone he just liked to pretend he will." She smiled and patted him.
"This is Caustic Sunshine, he has papers but his parents weren't nothing much, he is beautiful though, a splash bald face with gorgeous blue eyes, I expect to get many pretty babies from him."
"And here in our last stall we have our founding stallion. "This gentleman is Coyote wind, he was born out here somewhere on another ranch I think so he fits in rather well, smart, canny and has no qualms about breaking out of his stall." Rannon let Tally approach him first, Coyote had good manners. "He is a grey over chestnut."
~~~
"Hi" Monzon called back. "Well there are hardly ever dull moments let me tell you, but sometimes I do miss female companionship. Are you here for the studs? Do you know which one you will get? Rannon keeps eyeing the black and then me so I have a pretty good idea who I have got."
Tally smiled as Rannon led on. She watched as sunshine made his presence known with a snort and a smile came up on her fave. " Oh he seems spry! " she commented, he being the lovely colors he is. " He is a pretty one tho!" she commented upon moving onto Coyote's stall. she came to the stall and peered at the stud within, this time, she paused and looked this one over more carefully, offering a hand to the stud. "Now this one" she started. "This one is a handsome guy!.. look at the way the gray overlays so nicely!" Tally contemplated how the colors might go with Sahara. Sunshine's black would be interesting with Sahara, but their tempers are to much. the offspring would be a jerk for sure. The firs one, his colors would be magnificent but, this one... His gray and chestnut look appealed to Tally the most. So she stands there and waits to see his temperament. ```````````````````````````
Sahara gave a small smirk at Monzon but not in a rude or bad way. " I am here for a stud I would guess. I don't understand everything the humans say, but why else would Tally bring me to a farm full of studs?" She whinnied a snicker. " I have no idea who I will get, but if I dont like him, there will be no funny business. I am no push over mare!" she stated, a stern tone in her voice. " But you know. if we both have foals, perhaps one day the little racers could play together." That sounded fun to Sahara, watching two little horses run around like the sillies they would be at their age. than a small nervousness welled up inside her, and she thought to ask. " Is this going to be your first?"
Coyote came over to nuzzle Tally's hand politely then peek out of his stall presumably look for the siren she smiled like, upon seeing nothing he nudged Tally with his nose in an endearing fashion.
Rannon smirked. "Yes he is quite the Ham. I'm rather proud of his gray it should get more interesting as he ages too."
"Anyway that is our three boys so far. Can I interest you in some lunch? You can tell me more about your lovley mare."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Yes it will be my first foal. I did at least get to race once before now, I got a second. The mare who beat me was real good you should have seen her. Oh! I would love to see the babies play together!"
Monzon looked back at Sahara. "Will this be your first as well?"
