Life in the Pridelands was anything but boring these days, what with training exercises going on every morning and the recruitment of soldiers happening frequently, one would think the Pridelands was preparing for war. Just the thought left a bad taste in the burnt orange lioness' mouth as she reminisced about yet another trainee she tended to earlier that same day. They had been wounded during one of the exercises that the new soldiers were doing far too frequently for Mahea's liking.

While there were so many who knew what they were doing when it came to fighting, there were others who didn't and they were the ones who continually kept coming to Mahea's den in order to get their bruises looked at, scraped cared for and just a general healing touch to soothe any other wound they may have gotten doing any amount of training. Despite doing her job with a cheerful smile, it was mainly to keep morale up as she wasn't the only one with concerns. She would have preferred tending to cubs or hunters, not...soldiers. It seemed odd and strange for a pride that was normally known for being a peaceful place to suddenly have soldiers pop up seemingly overnight. Though perhaps there was a reason, the hyenas, but what harm could they do against the sheer numbers the Pridelands had?

Maybe her ill-content with the decision was something she would take up with her uncle and see how he felt on the matter. Though Simi was no longer the king, Mahea still held him close to her heart and respected him above almost all others in the pride.

Mahea sat along one of the many rocks that made up Pride Rock, though this one was situated much closer to dens of the royal family. With her head raised to the sky, she was lost in her own thoughts. For how long, she wasn't sure. Enough time though that it seemed that even the sky had darkened with a brewing storm, almost as some sort of ill omen about this radical change to the Pridelands' structure.

He felt older than he actually was. It was getting harder to drag himself out of his den every morning because his back legs were slowly starting to stiffen up. When he was a cub he'd fallen quite a ways and broken several bones in his lower half. Since then he walked with a little funny hobble and just got stiff every time the weather changed. Still, the pale male came out and did his duties as a hunter every time he was on the verbal roster and didn't complain. Today he was going to go for an evening hunt, which meant he had the morning to himself. He could visit his deaf son, Wyconda. He hadn't seen the red-maned lion in a dog's age so it sounded good to him.

So, with his funny little hobble and aching legs, he made his way towards his son's den. With every step it got a bit easier to walk. He always needed to warm them up like this, even though he just wanted to sleep the days away. With six or more years on him, he wasn't a young lion, but he shouldn't be moving like this. Curse his adventurous nature when he was young. Ah, but the adventures he had he wouldn't change, even falling off that cliff. He might try a bit harder to keep onto a mate, but being lonely was a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things. As he started walking a bit more normally, he spotted a burnt-orange lioness who seemed like her head was in the clouds.

Looking up to see if it was anything serious, he noticed the storm gathering and sighed. He should have figured. "Going to be a nasty one, isn't it?" He called to her, not going to climb up on the rock. He made his way over and stopped just before her, hoping he wasn't disturbing her. "What are your thoughts?" Caide had always been a friendly lion, always open to striking conversations with total strangers even before names were introduced. So why would today be any different?

"Huh, what?"

Crimson eyes quickly looked around for the source of the voice that had brought the daughter of a Lady's thoughts back into reality. A white and gray male stood not too far off from her, and he appeared to be the only one that it could have belonged too, especially given the fact he had been looking right at her. Oh how her mother would have been unhappy at how undignified she had been just then, but Mahea didn't care much for her royal blood at the moment.

"So it seems. The birds have been flying away from it for days now, so it wasn't at all surprising, but those clouds are much larger than I though they would be..." Her words trailed off as her attention went back to the ominous clouds. The weather had always been something that had intrigued Mahea, more-so storms than fairer weather though, much to her poor parents' dismay. His second question caught her off-guard though. Once again she turned her head to look back towards him. "My thoughts? My thought are everywhere, as they often are. Thinking on...well, everything." The new king, the old king, hyena threat, floods, family, pride, food and more. More than anything, her mind was focused on the new soldiers and how just having any sort of army would affect the Pridelander way of life. There was hardly a time where she had an empty head and peace of mind, but someone had to worry for those that didn't. Of course she wasn't just going to let all of her thoughts run freely from her mouth to a lion she did not know.

"What of you, stranger? Where are your paws taking you?"

Tangerine eyes watched as the lioness seemed to come back to herself and he just gave an amused noise and a smile. He didn't say anything, letting her assess the situation before deciding what she wanted to do. She looked young. At least younger than him.

"I remember seeing a large drove of them yesterday," he nodded in agreement, frowning a little as he did. It wasn't ever a good sign when the birds started leaving. If they weren't careful, the prey beasts would follow suit and they'd have a hard time finding and getting food back to the pride in a timely manner. He supposed the royals had a lot to think about right now, what was the best course of action for situations like this. "I see." She didn't give him many details but she did seem to be fretting a great deal. Caideseach wouldn't pry into her private thoughts but did offer a bit of advice. "Worrying in your head leads to graying fur faster." With that, he laughed at himself and then shifted on his paws, getting in a more comfortable position with a wince.

Where was he going? "To see my son. I haven't made the trek in a bit, so I figured I'd check in on him. See if he's alright. He can't hear, you know. Takes after his mother." Who was dead now, but he wasn't going to say that bit out loud.

"You must worry an awful lot then," Mahea offhandedly commented, given how pale and gray his fur was and almost the same instant those words left her mouth, she regretted every single one. Oh how her mother would have scolded her for those seven words. Darkened ears turned back as she glanced away while mumbled a simple apology of, "I'm sorry.", while hoping it would be enough. She had been raised by a Lady! She knew better than to poke any sort of fun any someone's appearance, even if they had left it so open for her.

His wince caught her attention. She had seen her uncle shrink with a similar amount of pain on a multitude of occasions and just like him, this grey male did not speak of it but instead bore the pain silently. Mehea's kept her eyes on him as she spoke fondly of his son while a smile grew on her face. "You...seem like you have a lot to say but no one to say it too." Maybe she was dead wrong, maybe she wasn't though, but based on the little wisdom he had shared and how he spoke of his family, that was just how she felt.

"Would you like some company on your way to see him?" The lioness asked cautiously before hastily speaking again. "You're in no condition to go up Pride Rock, especially if the downpour begins before you reach a den."

Caide just laughed at her words and flashed her a nearly youthful grin before shaking his head. "Nothing to be sorry for! You've done me no insult. I do worry a great deal. My litter... well, some are deaf, some are half deaf, but only Wyconda has stayed by my side." It wasn't like Wyconda was the perfect son, but he was close enough. Caide just watched the orange lioness before relaxing himself a bit more and turned his head to let out a short lived yawn. "I apologize for that. Just waking up."

When she offered to accompany him, Caide was honestly very surprised about that. The expression on his face was soft and he let out a bit of a nod. "If you want to join me I wouldn't mind. An old man like me likes the company of a pretty lady." Hopefully he'd said that enough that he didn't sound like he was a creepy old guy. "Ah, my hips. I had a bit of an accident when I was younger. Bit of a problem when the weather changes, but I keep going along."

With that said, he slowly started the way he was going again, looking back at her to see if she was going to follow him.
