As he was putting the cakelettes onto a different tray to cool, Ko started scratching at the front door. "You wanna go outside, Ko?" he asked. "Just a sec." He finished putting his pastries onto the cooling tray before coming to let the cakethief out.
That was when he saw something strange sitting on his doorstep: a little bundle, wrapped up in a soft looking pink blanket. "O-oh...I..." he frowned and looked around, wondering who in the world would leave a baby on some random pae's doorstep but the early morning fog made it impossible to make out any shapes. Bending down, the shy baker picked up the little bundle.
Wrapped up inside the pink folds was a dark blue little girl, and as he shifted her in his arms to hold her better she opened large cream colored eyes. "Oh, my...who left you here, sugar?" he cooed softly to her. She smiled up at him like she knew him and reached one tiny hand out, letting it land on Haukea's cheek.

The angel baker waited for a long time to see if anyone would come to claim the little girl, but no one did.
"I suppose I should give you a name, huh? Can't keep calling you sugar, or little girl forever now can I?" he said with a smile as he held her one night. "What do you think of Noelani?" he asked, like she would even be able to answer. She giggled and clapped her hands and he laughed a little. "Alright, then, Noelani it is," he said and kissed her forehead lightly.
And that is how Haukea became a father.
