Kaalnia was not a stranger to the Tale, but she had never really hunted in it before. When she'd been travelling with Votzhem, they'd relied on fish and on supplies. When she'd been with the funeral caravan, they'd had supplies and they'd moved quickly – too quickly to go off to hunt.

Since she was rested and refreshed from the victory and the celebrations afterwards – wink, wink – she figured she was in the Tale, why not try hunting in the Tale? Not that she was a particularly good hunter or anything – Kaa just didn't have that kind of patience – But she at least wanted to give it a try.

In the end, though, she found herself seated on a tree branch, fiddling with her spear as she looked out on the boring, flat, vaguely tree – strewn grassland.

She really didn't have any patience.

Kiyelt was out for a nice brisk walk before he had breakfast, he had slept a little late and would be getting left overs anyway so he figured why not go out for a stroll and see what other creatures had gotten up a little earlier then he himself. Soon enough he came across an area riddled with warrens the soil caked rather well together here and provided a nice medium for the burrows to be shaped in, he was testing this out when he heard a squeak then stepped on something small and furry, immediately little sharp, evil rodent teeth bite deep into his poor feet...why did things always go after his feet? The Oban beasts for one...that had been a rather unpleasant foot smushing experience and now apparently disturbed Poscuta! The rodent's mate flew up and latched onto his arm...now he was a strong tough Beast Charmer but getting bit hard on the foot is not condusive to a quiet morning. So he screeched and started to hop around trying to simultaniously dance them off and pull them off. It ended soon enough with him in a heap on the ground.. after he began to roll like mad creating a large plume of dust that could be seen from far away...he hoped it didn't attract and Scorra...that would be just what he needed....not.

An odd, distinctly un-manly sound reached her ears, and – alerted – Kaalnia gazed out into the Tale to see a large plume of dust rising. Immediately she assumed that there was a lady in trouble. Despite the gravity of such a situation, Kaalnia grinned.

”I'm coming to the rescue!” she cried, leaping from her tree and running – heroically, she felt – towards the disturbance, her spear ready for her to leap into the fray. What would it be, she wondered? A kinfa? A tale Mammu? One of those Arwa-things?

Either way, she charged into the cloud of dust, only to find that not only were the offending beasts not large and fanged, but that the victim was... ”Oh... you're a man.” she said, dissappointed. Still, that didn't mean he didn't need help, and Kaalnia – though she found men pitiful and not attractive to look at – would not begrudge the poor souls some of her awesomeness.

She jabbed at one of the poscuta with her spear, only to find one of them transferred to her arm, latching to her with its nasty teeth as it chittered angrily at her. ”Ow!” she yelped, trying to shake it off, ”Hey!”

"Oh hi!" Kiyelt said as he danced around idly he observed that she was very tall. He felt a bit like a shrimp in distress. Then his savior poked at the poscuta on his arm and it launched itself at her. He still had the little brat on his ankle and sat hopefully not in the alkidike's way to try and pull off what he thought was the female of the pair. She had her teeth lodged behind his hamstring and he was having a hard time pulling her off, if she clamped down on that tendon to hard well he had imaginings of being a gibbled beast charmer, not with the classy missing fingers but with a bum leg. Not good.

As it was he thought his ankle was going to bother him for a long long time. Deciding on a different tact he stood and started moving his feet as much as he could, the dancing did not work..the shaking his foot like a wet cat didn't work, rolling over and over in the dust didn't work. He pulled his lip back against the awful pain and tried to think. Finally exhausted he dragged himself to a creek and dunked his whole poscuta bequeathed leg into it.

The little rascal popped off and he grinned ferally at it as it came out well...looking like a drowned rat. Then he thought it was cute and started to laugh even as the water stung his poor leg.

Kaalnia looked ridiculous as she 'battled' the poscuta on her arm, trying to shake it off of her: to no avail. Her methods weren't as creative as Kiyelts, mainly going towards different varieties of shaking and trying to hit it with a spear. Again, to no avail – it seemed to dodge her and, when she hit it, it almost seemed to bite on harder. Kaalnia, at the end of her rope and imagination and tolerance for pain, made a little, unhappy, frustrated sound as it glared back at her.

And then she saw Kiyelt detach his, and decided that that was as good an idea as any. She ran, with the little needle-toothed b*****d still on her arm, and dove, dunking it into the creek. It came off her arm and glared at her, looking pathetic and mean.

”Serves you right!” she muttered, retrieving her arm and inspecting the nasty welts, ”That hurt!” She stood up, brushing sand off of her clothing and skin, and offered a hand to Kiyelt. ”I won't say that was fun...” she said, clearly disgruntled, ”The name's Kaalnia. What in 'Chi's name was that all about?!” she said, invoking the ice goddess. Bergchi, she had found, was very good for cursing with...

"My name is Kiyelt and this all started when I was checking out some burrows you see and I kinda sorta stepped on one of those poscuta...then its mate got revenge. Thank you for helping me." He fished in a bag and handed her some cream. "This will hopefully help, at least it did when I was training a certain sailscale that delighted in scolding me with his teeth."
