Atlas, normally a ball giggles and energy felt an odd sense of somber air fill her. She stared up at the stars, remembering every bed time story her mother ever told her, focusing all her efforts in conjuring up the one singular memory she needed now. The loneliness that crept in on her when she was alone felt to overwhelm her. Even when she spent her time with her brother Pyrr, or others that kept her mind distracted, that loneliness hovered in the peripherals of her conscious, always threatening to make an appearance. Breathing in the cold air, she let it back out shakily. She'd cried more in the last few months than she could have thought possible. After her best friend left her, abandoned her, made it very clear he couldn't care less of seeing her... well... it tore her. Her her heart. But the memory of her mother, telling her of the wishing star that would sometimes grace its viewers with a gift if enticing enough. No, Atlas had not been herself as of late. And what she wanted now was nothing more than to mend her torn self, with the comfort of a friend.

She'd flown to the top of a nearby stony cliff, thinking a better view would have improved her chances of the star seeing her. Silly, she thought to herself with a soft smile. She stalled time by talking to the star as if it were a friend in and of itself, letting the star know all about her and about what she'd want in a friend. "Of course I don't pretend to know what kind of friend I want or... need, really. I wouldn't care what they were like so long as they had a good heart and could make me smile." She smiled at the thought of someone making her smile. "I'm not hard to please... but I guess I've bored you enough." She turned and stared at the stars; her eyes searching. The stars had been falling for sometime; like a shower. She picked and concentrated on one of them with all her might. "Please accept this as part of my wish." She yelled, hoping that the star would hear her more clearly, too. "It's... well its a drawing. I thought if I painted something, with berries, and mud, and stuff, that made me happy, it would make you happy...and... well. Please accept it." She whispered, looking up at the stars. "Please?"

She didn't know if something epic was supposed to happen, or a lightening storm supposed to role over, or what. But... she waited a few more heartbeats and realized nothing had changed... I guess the star didn't grant my wish... she shrugged, having not realized how high her hopes had been. Turning from the star, she left her painting. She didn't want it anymore. Glancing back, she saw a strong gust had overtaken the cliff, and the painting was lifted in to the air but she looked away before she could see where it went. It was cold and she wanted to be home.

Grant had been coasting along his merry way, taking in the new scenery. For the past several... oh, well, he'd lost count of whatever it's been. Months surely. He'd seen quite the array of types, truly, between fish-things to... well, not fish things that look liked fish things with land legs. And scales. And claws. And horns.... Really, were there no simpletons out there anymore? Though that one chick with the scales and weird tail had been very pretty... Grant's mind wandered off, thinking bad things that ought not be for G-rated viewers before he'd turned the corner of a cliff, catching a face full of something wide and thin.

Sputtering and loosing height, blind, Grant came stumbling onto dirt ground, that thankfully didn't hurt... too badly. It was, let's put it, not his finest moment. "What... What the hell?!" He shook his head, eventually using his wings to finally bat off the mask that had taken to his face like it was a magnet.

With his sight returned, he was able to take in his landing spot. Not first understanding, he thought he saw a fire in the middle of a dark tree ledge that rimmed the cliff side with pines. Letting his eyes adjust, and his shock of (almost literally) falling from the sky wane, he saw soon it was not fire, but a pale mare with red markings. He blinked quickly, to check to see if she disappeared.

Nope.

Still there. Huh.

She looked like she had been about to approach to make sure he was okay, but was quickly correcting her stance and half turned to flee. A grin spread wide at her obvious uncertainty, letting his easy charm flow. "Well hello Deary. Sorry to disturb the peace."

Atlas' heart nearly lept up her throat and out her mouth in the moment she'd turned away. She... well didn't scream, but certainly yelled at the sound of the crash, having jumped at least a foot in the air. Heart hammering, she'd whirled around to see a crumbled form laying on the ground, moaning in pain. Initially she thought he was going to roll off the edge and finish himself off, which (thankfully?) he did not. Short of breath in her shock, she stood quite still at first. She noticed his face was hidden by something... upon closer inspection she saw, with a twinge of regret, it was her painting that was caught on his face.

Laying her ears back, and ducking her head guiltily, she watched with a mixture of concern, anticipation, and nervousness. Her heart had not quite calmed itself, and sped up once more when, finally, the stallion was able to swat off her painting. Unknowingly she had been leaning closer, maybe may have even taken a few steps in his direction.

Not sure the heck this guy was, she leaned back from him, and prepared to run if he was a threat. However, the idea of running evaporated when he made what was probably supposed to be a seductive grin (half lidded eyes that made him look sleepy was more of a proper description) and "Deary" struck her. One eyebrow raised, and a snort of cloudy stream issued from her.

Hesitantly, she replied. "Hiii...?" Her expression did not shift.

Grant shifted so that he got to his feet as eloquently as possible. Brushing the dirt off his side with his wings, his grin stayed in place, and his icy blue eyes trained on the (lovely) mare before him. "Didn't mean to come crashing down on you, Love. I kind of lost control up there and well... I'm lucky to have landed where I did. Really lucky..."

He noted her eyes were not glossing over, or her mouth parting at his devilish good looks, some what (fake) accent, or his rumbling voice. Hmm. Well, he did just fall out of the sky... that must dampened his usual charm and charisma. Mentally shrugging, he chalked it up to being an off night (he clearly didn't fall out of the sky on a regular basis).

He customarily bowed to her, his eyes still trained steadily on her's. "I'm Grant. Please forgive me, Deary, truly. I did not mean to intrude or frighten you." Straightening up, he took a step toward her, bringing himself up to his full height, and drawing a breath in so that he looked quite the muscled man he was. "I don't make it a habit of falling from the sky."

Deary? Love? Who was this guy. She stayed still as could be, watching him warily. She almost laughed outright at his obvious cockiness and his attempts at being... she guessed charming? Her usually smile kept trying return, making her lower lip tremble every now in again in her efforts to keep it sedated. But then she was utterly distracted.

Atlas blinked, taking in his last words. I don't make it a habit of falling from the sky. She visibly trembled for a moment before her wide smile broke across her face and squeal erupted from her maw. "Oh my gods! Oh my gods!" She squealed again, doing a little dance in a circle (not unlike a football player who just scored a huge touchdown in overtime)-- the fact a strange stallion was staring at her like she'd lost her mind was lost to her.

She stopped, staring eyes wide, unable to suppress her smile. "Oh. My. Gods!" She rushed up to the stallion, inspecting him closely, prodding various parts of him (shoulder, side, face) to try and see if he was really, really there and she wasn't crazy. (Though the stallion's opinion begged to differ in that moment.)

"I can't believe this!" She hopped up and down a few more times, gleefully cheery and excited. "Grant! You name is Grant!" She laughed, bubbling giggles not able to be held back. "Thats... Fantastic!"

Grant was.... thoroughly confused. His big take of wind blew out of him in a gust, as he examined the mare that was now oddly eager to meet him. What... what had he done? Was his attractiveness so powerful it stunned her at first, but now with the full force of a tornado, elicited her joyous response?

Nah, probably not... but it made for a great story one day.

"Uh... what.. er." He flinched from her prodding. "Hey, watch it there!" A frown creased his brows in confusion. This had taken a turn he hadn't foreseen. "Now hold on Deary-- Yes, my name is Grant and I'm pretty fantastic, but what in the world--!" Blustered and confused, he took a step back, eyeing her with a look of almost fear and a lot of apprehension.

This was a first, at least.

Atlas' excitement finally began to settle as she stared at Grant, radiating happiness. She almost felt embarrassed now, but not about her outburst, but... at the fact she made a wish on a star for a friend. She didn't want him to think her weird (too late) or a loser-- some friendless loser at that. Taking a step back, she looked down and around and anywhere not at Grant, a shy smile staying on her lips. "Sorry... I just... thought you weren't coming." She looked at the shower of stars above, and sent a silent thank you up with all her inner might, her gratitude flooding every corner of her being.

She glanced at Grant a few more times, afraid he was going to disappear.

Honestly she hadn't even taken in his appearance through her excitement. Obviously he had wings which was a super bonus. A handsome face, and was blue and white (secretly she thanked the Gods again; this time for the fact he was the opposite of red and yellow practically...). And nooow she noticed what she failed to at first (which is honestly horrible of her considering should could have been in grave danger).... he had claws.

"Where's your feet?"

Grant had stared at her with a gaping maw... "Where--where are my feet?" He was at a loss for words, brought up short by her lack of attention span and direct behavior... and well, her outbursts of energy alone were a sight to see and thoroughly confusing.

"Deary, I wasn't aware that we had a prior engagement, though I wouldn't complain if we had.

...

Wait... did we?" He stared at her, head tilted, attempting to jog his memory. She evidently seemed to know him. This did seem to happen on occasion... Grant will have flirted and stolen a heart and forgotten about them completely by the morrow. But he doubted he'd spoken to this mare before, considering he was long way from home and never had traveled out this way. And well, he usually didn't lead on such pretty little things.

"Mmm... no, no we couldn't have. What's your name, Love?"

Atlas' common pout surfaced at the mention of Love or Deary. "My name is Atlas," her tone with hint of irritation though it was short lived. She was still over the moon that her wish had actually happened, but she was able to control her dancing wibbles to a minimum, her smile spreading wide once more.

"Well no, we didn't have plans and we haven't met before... but... well." She looked away, upward to the sky. "I was expecting you anyway." She smiled shyly again, ducking her face out of view, hidden by her long hair. "I... had a hunch you were coming."

She peeked up at him through her locks, looking a little frightful and whispered, "Don't think I'm weird, please."

"My apologies, Miss Atlas." He grinned at her, nodding his head at her in polite greeting, though if somewhat in a mocking manner underneath. Of course Grant would never be malicious to anyone (undeserving), especially a sweet little mare like this one. She had a certain child-like charm, he noticed. Admiringly his smile sort of melted into a genuine one of amusement.

At her shift in expression though, revealing a afraid girl underneath the energy, Grant felt a tug in chest. He was back to being confused (though he probably never left) and his expression softened towards her, his smile small and understanding. "You're not... weird, Atlas, Deary." Okay, so he lied, but really. She kind of put on the spot there. "Just... energetic." He chuckled, settled back into his cocky, relaxed, carefree disposition.

"So, Atlas." He leaned in close to her, turning the charm to maximum levels. "What are you doing out here all by your lonesome?"

She looked momentarily indignant at his advance into her space, but her smile stayed. "I am making sure you don't die; clearly you need a little more lessons in flying." She looked guiltily over to the painting she made that had the misfortune of falling near their feet from where they stood.

Noticing her distraction, Grant glanced down to where she'd looked and inspected it closer. With the light of the star shower above, it was clearly something made by someone other than nature. Glancing from her expression, back down to the large leaf... as it were a painting. Realization dawned and he gasped. "It's yours!"

She immediately lied. "Nu-uh! .... Okay, well, yes, technically! But I threw it away!" She furrowed her brows and stuck out her lip in a pout. "Its not my fault you flew right into it!"

Grant pretended to think for a moment. "Hmm... well actually it is!"

Atlas took a breath to retort but stalled for a second. "Wait... where'd your accent go?"

Grant looked surprised for a second then uncomfortable. "What accent?"

"The one you've had this entire time!"

"... I don't know what you're talking about, Deary."

"See! There it is!"

"Did you hit your head too? I was the one who fell."

She sighed in exasperation, rolling her eyes to the sky.

Grant couldn't smother the smile that spread at her frustration. "So... Deary," he gave her a pointed glance met with her narrowed eyes which only caused his smile to grow. "...How did you know I was coming?"

He was genuinely curious. She'd hadn't explained at all her over joyed display earlier, though he wasn't complaining. It was curious, was all. (He didn't fail to notice the pink spreading in her cheeks, either.) Her earlier moment of vulnerability inclined him to be more gentle with the topic of course
.

Atlas looked at anything other than Grant, particularly interested in a lone pine cone by her foot. "I told you it was a hunch..."

"A hunch?" He quirked any eyebrow, bending into her view a time or two with a small smirk in place.

She glowered, and flung her wings out in a frustrated groan. "I wished on a star for a friend, okay?!" She scowled, very uncharacteristic for her sweet nature. It probably had to do with the hot tears that sort of stung the corners of her eyes. Thankfully, the wind helped dry those up before they fell down her cheeks. (Ironic that her pelt markings made perfect tear trails on her, her mother, and Pyrrhus; her mind often gets side tracked on small details like this.)

Grant raised both his eyebrows until they were almost completely hidden behind his bangs. "Wished? On a falling star?" He refrained from asking how old Atlas was. His grin spread, "For a sexy debonair of a friend, huh? Well what mare wouldn't." He winked.

Her scowl gave way to her gentle smile once more, hear his joking tone. "More like a strange stallion with balance issues."
