Rose Karver

The sun shone brightly down upon the Kingdom of Gardenia as Rose sat on the railing of the balcony, gazing out towards the horizon. She let out a heavy sigh of boredom as she put her weight down on her hands that balanced on either side of her, resting on the railing beside her. Rose had been begging for her father to let her explore the city outside of the castle walls, but each time she tried, he grew angry, and yelled at her, telling her that she was forbidden to leave the castle for her safety.

Rose groaned in boredom as she rocked back and forth. Soon, she heard a knock on the bed chambers door. Not caring about what the nervous guards below thought, Rose managed to turn herself around, facing into her bedchambers, towards the door.

"Come in," she called out cheerfully. Unknowing of whom her guest was, Rose was eager to see the look on her face. Of course, Rose can't blame for how uncomfortable she would make the maids and guards feel at times. Nowadays, she was only trying to entertain herself, and ease herself of her ongoing boredom.

Perched happily on the railing in her lavender silk nightgown, a maid entered the room, closing the door behind her. The maid's eyes grew as wide as saucers as she rushed out onto the balcony towards Rose.

"L-Lady Rose! Please, get up from there! You could fall and seriously hurt yourself!" the maid pleaded.

Rose giggled lightly as she stood up from the railing, onto the safety of the balcony, "I'm quite alright. I'm assuming that you must be here to babysit me again, Meredith?" she questioned.

Meredith followed Rose into the bedchambers, shaking her head as she opened up the wardrobe, "Not quite, Lady Rose... The king as requested to see you immediately. It must be important."

Theo stared into the eyes of his personal handmaiden as she clutched his jaw, bringing tweezers across his eyebrows. With quick, gentle swipes, she removed unwanted hair from around his eyebrows. Her hands were shaking terribly at the thought of accidentally pinching Theo's skin while her dark green eyes burned into her own. It felt like he was waiting for him to mess up. She occasionally glanced into his glare, making her nervous every time. She wiped away excess hair, retracting her hands while Theo held a mirror in front of his face.

He wiggled his eyebrows, making several emotions with him as the handmaiden twiddled her thumbs.

" It'll do. " Theo said, waving her away with his free hand. She quickly scurried away, thankful that she didn't witness his anger. She had, many times, been yelled at, cursed at, thrown around, belittled, everything you could think of. She didn't understand why Theo didn't like her, she was a considerably beautiful dragon with bright pink eyes and a curvaceous body. When she was assigned to him, she thought she would definitely be the new princess. But oh was she wrong.

Sighing, Theo tossed the mirror onto his bed as he ran a few fingers through his hair. It was around noon, so Theo decided to take a stroll around the kingdom. He exit his room, running down the stairs in his casual attire. He slipped past his mother, opening the grand cherry doors quietly, and closing them quietly. The air was moist this afternoon, Theo noted as his green eyes swept the area. The dragon kingdom was a sight to see. The buildings were large and beautiful, made of the finest quartz. The Grand Castle was built of these quartz as well. The more rural areas were more neglected, as everyone enjoyed being in the suburban places of the kingdom.

A few dragons went on their business, tipping there hats or bowing their heads as Theo waltzed by. He smirked at them, walking down the cobblestone roads as the people vended goods. The Square was the richest part of the kingdom, of course, as it housed The Grand Castle. Many wealthy men and women called The Square their home, as it was comfortable, but expensive. The Slums were a place where no one wanted to live, but some had to. As the war raged on, most people lost their wives or husbands, cutting funds to live in The Square. Houses were built in The Slums long ago when the Elder Dragons were still alive. Back then, The Slums were considered a place of the wealthy, which contradicted its title now.

Theo snapped out of his daydream as a metallic hand placed itself on his shoulders.

" Your Royal Highness, his Majesty wishes to speak with you at once! " A guard told him. Theo rolled his eyes.

" Can't the old man leave me alone? Thank you. " Theo grumbled as he shoved past the guard. He didn't even get far without his father squandering him like he always does. Oh well. Must be important.

                                                                            Tala of Darkness

Rose Karver

Strolling down the marbled hallway, Rose had gotten dressed in a Victorian styled Navy blue off-shoulder dress. Her lips were pressed in a firm line, unsure of what her father would want from her. Perhaps he had heard of her little 'stunt' on the balcony from one of the guards. The thought of that caused her pout to form into a frown.

The guards opened the large mahogany doors wide for Rose as she entered into the throne room. The king, Peter, sat proudly before her on the mahogany-polished throne. As Rose approached him, Peter glanced down with piercing hazel eyes. The corners of his lips tugged up into a small smile.

"Rose, I'm so happy you could make it here so early in the morning. I sent Meredith to wake you, considering I know you don't usually enjoy waking up early in the morning."

"I figured today might be a special occasion, Father. May I ask why you called me here?" Rose questioned, stared up at her father with her curious blue irises. She hadn't dared to attempt to ascend the red velvet steps that led up to the thrones that led to her parents.

The older man ran his fingers through his chestnut brown hair, letting out a small sigh as he smile faded, "Rose, there is something we must discuss with you. You do understand of the war that had been going on outside of these castle walls, have you not?"

The young girl tilted her head slightly, blinking in confusion, "The war with the dragons? Yes, but... What do I have anything to do with it? The dragons want nothing to do with me. In fact, I doubt they have even heard of me... I have never even left these walls before."

Peter fell silent for a few moments. He cleared his throat, shaking his head, "That.. isn't entirely true, Rose.. I have made contact with the Dragon King from the rivaling kingdom, and he and I have reached an agreement that could end this war and bring peace for both species. You are to be wed to Theo, the Dragon Prince. Understood?"

As he moved through the courtyard and into the looming castle before him, he could feel a sense of anger radiating from the foyer. He could tell his parents were displeased once he slipped past the door of their chambers. His father held a scowl on his face while his mother sported a glare directed straight at the 19 year old. Twiddling his thumbs, Theo flashed a charming grin to his parents in an attempt to lighten the mood.

"Why the long faces? Its rude to grace others with your terrible vibes, you know... " Theo chuckled as he climbed up onto the first of 5 steps, but not willing to go any further. His father raised his chin, the man's burning red eyes searing into Theo's head.

"Now is not the time for fun and games, Theo." Theo's father mumbled, adjusting himself in his seat. Theo's mother seemed a little less angry, but angry nonetheless. She had bright yellow eyes that seemed distant at the moment, making Theo want to ask her what was wrong, but he knew now wasn't the time.

"You know this war we have been fighting for years, yes?" Theo's mother said, the young prince nodding, "We can put an end to it. We can live in peace among the humans as our ancestors once did. This is what we look forward to. Do you aim for the same goals as us? "

                                                                            "Yes, mother."
Theo grumbled even though he completely disagreed. If he spoke his mind, his father would definitely not be happy with him. The war had been going on long before Theo's father was born. The older man was born into an unforgiving world, Theo's grandfather barely able to raise him when the humans killed his wife. Theo's grandfather was blinded by his everlasting love for the humans that he still tried to make amends with the other race, even after all the destruction they had caused. Theo's father was brainwashed into having the same love for the vile creatures, but Theo was born with his own will. He rebelled against any orders his father gave him concerning the humans, mainly because they revolved around helping them.

Theo's father often ordered him to drop crates of supplies to the human villages, and Theo would comply, but never deliver. He would fly away, his wings stretching across the horizon with large crates tied to his back. But with one swoop, he would graze a tree, knocking the crate off his back, sending it crashing down onto the ground below.

Theo's father had yet to find the big pile of wasted supplies, and Theo was thankful for it.

"Then listen to this. We have made an agreement with the King of the humans. To put an end to this vile war, we proposed that you and the human princess, Rose, be wed. It will symbolize peace between the two kingdoms. Is this understood? "

Theo had never felt real terror in his heart before now. His eyes darkened at the idea of marrying a pink, squishy, useless creature. He had no idea what to say, but the one thing he knew was that he would never marry that girl, Rose, or whatever her name was.

                                                                            "Theo, is this understood?" The King reiterated, but Theo wasn't listening. The prince didn't nod, and didn't shake his head, he simply turned on his heels and left. He heard his mother calling his name, but he didn't care. This was definitely an act of betrayal. Just because he would wed the human princess didn't signify the end of the war. There would still be mass genocide. There would still be disputes. The real end of a war was one end getting slaughtered by the other, and that was how it had always been. Theo didn't intend on changing it;

                                                                            Tala of Darkness
                                                                            this sux lol
