Lurks had a great fondness for hunter bases. He played house in them, sometimes, talking to himself as he wandered the abandoned halls, planning out where his herd would live and go. It was nice to have dreams. He dragged his bony fingers along a crumbling wall, heading outside. This base was in Argentina, or so the sign said, already half-overgrown with lush vines. The heat was oppressive at high noon, but that was okay. He didn't really feel it. All in all, the horseman was oblivious to anything-- or anyone-- also in the area.

Jeremy had no idea where he was, but that wasn't entirely uncommon. The rather airheaded Hunter didn't often know what was going on around him, after all. He recalled a few things, like an order to check out old bases, and to report...something...

Since he wasn't sure what it was supposed to be reporting, he just focused on the part he did know. Namely, the scouting. So he was doing just that, but along the way he had, predictably, gotten distracted. There was something under the vines in this hallway, and he really had to get to it! He was so close - so close - just a few more pulls and -
Something creaked behind him. A rustle of fabrics, a nail against a wall, and Jeremy jumped, Elsie summoned into his hands and immediately thrown down the hallway, aiming for the source of the noise.

Lurks startled, exploding into a flurry of black-winged shadows, whirling around to inspect his newfound company. He waved brightly-- excitedly, in fact-- and smiled. "Hello," Lurks said, creeping closer, his glowing eyes illuminated in the dim. "Are you one of them?" hp// 40 dmg// potato

"One of who?" Jeremy blinked owlishly at the strange, shadow-exploding creature as he pulled on Elsie's chain. One hand pulled backwards as if bringing the ball closer to him, but the other grabbed a section of linked steel and twisted, changing the direction to send it at the creature instead.
"And what the hell are you?" He asked, shortly after weight and spikes thudded into his unknown opponent.

"A hunter!" Lurks crowed, falling backwards into a heap of bones and cloth, giggling. "I am Lurks Beneath! Beneath the sand, beneath the surface. I am Famine and eternal and the one who deprives." He swiped out at the hunter, but didn't reach quite far enough. His wings fluttered behind him, and too-many teeth showed in his smile, since half his face was missing. "So are you? A hunter? Do you want to play?" hp// 31 dmg// 0

"Lurks Beneath? What kind of shitty-a** name is-" The creature lashed out, and Jeremy took a step back, swinging the loose end of the tether at the offending hand. It was just a slap away with a few chain links, but it was enough, or so he felt. "You talk a little highly of yerself doncha, buddy?" Jeremy grit his teeth, unhappy to be faced with...whatever the hell this was.
He remembered being told what Famine was, but at this moment, he was drawing a blank. It sounded pretty important, though.
"I am, and I'm always up to tango with you freaks."

"It is not a stupid name!" Lurks bit back, offended that the hunter was being so cruel. All he had wanted to do was play. They could not all be so great and wonderful as the ever obedient and subservient Star Walker, he guessed. It was a shame. He drew up to his full height to issue the hunter a stern glare-- before burrowing deep into the soft earth, running beneath it until he was beneath Jeremy's feet. He exploded out of it, clocking himself right in the head with the hunter's weapon on his way up-- but at least he'd managed to hit the hunter with his own weapon, a chained sickle. "Ow!" Lurks clutched at his head, which was now on backwards, twisting it back into place. "Ow, ow, ow, ow!" hp// 29-21=8 dmg// 12 fear// GC used, BC/TC remain

"I didn't say stupid, I said shitty~" He corrected with an innocent whistle, his eyes widening with false innocence and surprise. "You need your ears checked." Though he had more to say, he instead let out a surprised noise - suddenly, this Lurks fellow was gone, burrowing under the ground and heading towards him in a manner that reminded him of Bugs Bunny, until -
"Ow!" He yelped as the chained sickle embedded in his foot, though most of it was stopped by the thick rubber of his shoes. A quick few steps back and his foot was freed from the weapon, and Elsie, who had been clocked already by the Horseman, dragged against his skin again, though this time only a small scratch.
"The ******** was that!"

"I do not have ears," he sniffed, weapon retracting entirely, exploding in a flurry of black shadow bugs. They writhed all over Lurks, replenishing his stamina. "We Lurk Beneath," the pony said, stoically as possible, before bursting into immature giggles, king of his own inside joke. The shadows began sloughing off of him in waves, and some of them crawled over to Jeremy-- a number of curious spiders, in fact-- and began trying to crawl up his legs. hp// 6+10=16 fear// GC2 used, CHL1 used, BC2 remains

Jeremy paused at that.
"Then how...can you hear me..." He sounded as baffled as he looked, perhaps even bordering on stupid, before he shook his head to clear the idea from his mind. Instead he made a face as he realized there were thousands of bugs crawling around, more notably around the creature that insisted on making no sense to him.
"Whatever, you're dumb, anyway." He shrugged, staring curiously at the spiders on his feet before realizing - or perhaps remembering - that they were in a battle. Then, with a soft Oh to himself, he began to swing Elsie once again, making wide, sweeping arcs in a routine X in front of himself. This time though, as he swung her, the fire that once spit lazily from the weight at the end began to grow brighter, almost excited.
When he threw the weight towards Lurks, her mouth was open wide. Solid metal teeth - and the fire that erupted in between - closed around Lurk's shoulder in a not-at-all affectionate Love Bite.HP: 28/40 Damage: 13 Charge: USING - T2 BC

Lurks began using his last fear, but the question was enough to stun him into a bit of a silence. Were ears really necessary to hear? He had always just heard through the holes in his head. Did those count as ears? He opened his mouth to be offended at being called dumb, and promptly took a fireball to the face. When the smoke cleared, the Famine horseman was a sooty creature with singed robes, crumpled up on the ground with a horrible pout on his face. It was not fair! He had just wanted to play and all sorts of things, and this one was cruel. He was not even one with a reason, like the awful red one who would never be worthy enough of capitalizations. He was just an angry hunter. "Why?" Lurks asked with a cough and a wheeze, a plume of black smoke escaping from his face and ribs. "I only wanted to play, and you were very, very rude." Orange eyes flashed with his fury. He would remember this. hp// 3 omg dmg// OMG fear// ALL GONE OMG

"Why what?" Jeremy asked, wrinkling his nose. He didn't even want to clarify; really, at this point, he just wanted this to be over with. The creature in front of him was nothing more than a nuisance, and he could think of several more fun things to do.
Like get his eyes ripped out with a spoon.
"Your games aren't fun." He frowned at the singed mess of Horseman, then shook his head slowly. "And I'll be nice, when you are." Which he was pretty sure meant dead, but hey, close enough, right? He pulled Elsie back from her most recent attack, and went to launch her again.

"Why do you think you are worthy enough?" he asked, sniffling dramatically, skeletal hands balled up into tight fists. "I am very nice! Nicer than you." Lurks staggered to his feet, chest puffing up, wings flapping wild. And then he poked Jeremy right in the chest a few times. "It is just that you are a bully," using the word that Tink and Reese and Holly had taught him. "And you do not appreciate all my genius and there is a lot of it. You are the very worst." His face contorted tighter into a snarl. "Even if you make me go away now, it will not matter, because I will come back and then find you later." hp// 3 omg dmg// OMFG fear// ALL GONE OMG

Jeremy had stopped listening somewhere around Why do you think. His yellow eyes shifted to the side, not even giving Lurks a tiny bit of attention, right down to cleaning out his ear with an index finger. To him, this game was dull. No wonder the creature liked it so much. He was forced to give his attention again as a finger jammed into his chest, and it was then his features twisted into revulsion.
"Gross!" The young man spat, slapping the offending hand away and taking a few steps back. He dusted his chest, as if it would removed the sensation, and finally paused to observe the Horseman as he said something interesting.
"Yeah?" He piped up, sounding suddenly amused. "Go ahead, try." He pulled the steel tether taunt between half gloved hands. "You'll still lose." It was a promise, and one punctuated by the sudden pull of the tether, pulling Elsie from where she lay, pulling her closer before slamming his foot into the weight, changing her direction. She soared at Lurks, all spikes and open jaws.
