It was colder now than Newgrange was used to, and he was almost regretting that he had come powered up at all. As they drifted further away from the warmth of summer, the briskness of fall was difficult to avoid. Still, he was restless—not uncommon for the Page, who felt an obligation to power up despite quite firmly believing that he was of absolutely little, if no help, at all to the town.
But it made himself feel less guilty about not powering up, and there was at least some reassurance that he was playing some part of a greater role to make the lives of the people he cared about better. He didn't hate the Negaverse, or the Dark Mirror Court or even the Youma, but he knew that what they were doing was wrong, and while he didn't want to resort to violence, he was prepared to do so.
He had spent all day at the bakery, and while it hadn't been a bad day, it had been busy; at the very least, being out in the fresh air was refreshing, even if he couldn’t get the aroma of bread out of his nose.
Energy signatures tingled on his radar—and at first he was content to let them be as they were, order and chaos alike.
Until the signature of a chibi senshi was so close he couldn't help but wander over to see who was out so late.

She had found her henshin pen. She had found it a few weeks ago…Arias had taken it. Arias had hidden it…but…she had found it. For the last few months, Elvira was sure that it was just her fault, that she had lost it somewhere and she would never be able to become who she was meant to be anymore, and that was just the worst feeling she really thought she had ever felt…so…
So of course the moment she found out it wasn’t her fault after all, she was back out patrolling. And it was great. She loved everything about it, the outfit, the gloves, the feeling of…of being alive. She felt light tingles at every turn. There were so many others out here just like her. So many other friends just itching to meet her, so many friends she was just itching to meet.
Tonight was no different. She was sitting in a tree, having climbed up in it to get a better look of what she could see. And there was the feeling of someone coming close. A friendly sort of someone. So…naturally, she jumped out of the tree when she heard their footsteps.
“Hello! I’m Elvira, Chibi Senshi of Poinsettia’s…who are….” She stopped, staring at the page in front of her. A very familiar page.
Oh. Oh boy. It was Arias.
Oh boy.
Well...oops.

It took a lot to make Newgrange mad, and as he stared at his little sister in front of him, knowing that he had hidden her henshin pen very well, he wasn't sure if he was mad or not.
"Elivra," he said somewhat warningly. "…It's not exactly that I mind you going through my things, but I thought you understood that it was dangerous to be using that thing."
He thought of those he had met in the past year, and while many had been agreeable, there were more than a few faces that sent a shiver down his spine.
"What are you thinking, coming out here all alone. —Does Mom know? What if she goes to give you a kiss goodnight or something and finds your bed empty, do you know how worried she'd be?" he asked; he didn't seem mad, just worried, and immediately walked over and took his sister's hand. He seemed intent to lead her back home so he could personally tuck her in and make sure she wasn't coming back out again tonight.
He wasn't going to let her get hurt. He'd taken her henshin pen away for a reason, and her sneaking it back totally defeated the purpose of him trying to keep her safe and out of this war.

The chibi looked guilty for a moment, head drooping, staring down at her green shoes, sighing. Well. She hadn’t wanted to have to deal with this…but…
Hey. Wait, that wasn’t fair at all! “You don’t mind me going through your things? You’re the one who stole my pen in the first place…New…guy thing. I forgot your name, that’s how long it’s’ been since I’ve been able to do this, and it’s because of you!”
She pulled her gloved hand out of his and scowled. “I’m not really even that much of a kid anymore, Arias. And no, mom doesn’t know. She’s already in bed. She had a headache.” The teenaged chibi huffed and looked up at her brother, shaking her head. “I’m very upset that you would do this to me! I thought we were going to be a team in this, I thought we would be able to go and save the world together. Do you even know how bad I’ve felt the last year because I thought I lost my pen and I thought the world was going to suffer because of it?”
Elvira shook her head. “I’m not going to stop any of this, so don’t try to stop me, because…I’ll be very angry with you, brother. And I won’t talk to you ever again.”
...So maybe that was a pretty empty threat. But she felt pretty powerful saying it, and clearly that was all that mattered.

A look of guilt crossed Newgrange's face and he hastily raised his hands to calm her. "No, you don't mean that," he insisted, calling her bluff. "—But, look, I'm sorry, okay? I just."
Newgrange sighed and seemed to deflate almost entirely; he held out a hand to her. "Come on, let's go sit down. I want to talk with you but it's important, so I want to sit down. There's a bench over there, and…"
He just sighed and wrapped an arm around her as he began to lead her towards it. "I took your pen, and it was wrong. I'm sorry. I just really didn’t want you to get involved in something before I knew what it was. I should have given it back, or something, but I just really…I was scared for you, okay? After that one—the youma? I had nightmares for a week straight, and all I could think about was what would have happened if things had gone differently. And I don't know, I'm older than you, bigger, so I just thought I'd be able to handle it better, and…"
He chewed on the inside of his cheek and gave his sister a quick squeeze. "I'm sorry, okay? I'd…I'd rather we be a team in this than you go out on your own. And I'm sorry for worrying, it's just…please don't hate me, okay?"
He couldn't stand the idea of her being mad at him, or of her never wanting to talk to him again. The concept alone was making his skin crawl and already he was desperate to make amends.

She went with him and sat down, still feeling quite huffy. But of course, the anger was softening as quickly as it had come…though she was desperately determined not to let him know that. Finally Elvira just sighed, flopping against her brother. “I wasn’t scared of the youma. Not really. I was kind of excited to be honest. It was pretty cool finding out we were awesome people like this. And we get to be together, and we get to help save the world, so why doesn’t that make you as happy as it makes me?”
Of course, her brother had always been such a worrywart…so…
She shrugged. “I mean. I won’t hate you okay? You know I love you, and yeah, we can do this together. Just don’t take my pen again. I’m going to hide it from you this time, and you’ll never find it, ever. So there. Now…why don’t you go and get me some ice cream and we can go home, okay? I don’t think mom would be too, too angry if I had ice cream with you instead of going to bed, right?” The chibi grinned up at her brother, hopping to her feet. She was very glad it was sort of settled. Even if maybe she still harbored a little resentment towards her brother…she did know he just had her best interests at heart…even if he didn’t know how to really…help out with that. Stealing was just not okay. And she really hoped she let him know that. In the nicest way possible, of course.

Newgrange had already figured that taking her pen for a second time wouldn't end very well, though he breathed a sigh of relief that she was so easy going about it. Of course he was happy to spend time with her; after he had moved out, their time together had been cut much shorter. Between his working and her schooling and everything, sometimes they didn't get to see each other as often as he wanted. And...if this was going to be just one of those ways that they got to bond...what was he so worried about?
They'd been fine, so far.
The only thing he'd really even had to worry about were those...dreams...
But as long as things never came to that...they'd be okay.
As long as he was looking after her, she'd be okay.
He offered his little sister a warm smile. "All right, all right," he said, and reached down to swipe her hand. It was instinctive, and she was growing up quickly. Soon he wouldn't be able to do it anymore, so he was going to take every opportunity that he could. "We'll get ice cream. After we power down. But then it's going to be straight to bed!"
...For the both of them.
