Senja, once making sure she was no longer needed to help the healers, headed out to find Rastian. Where was that blasted husband of hers? He had better be here, she thought... or else we are going to have a very long and loud talk about him abandoning me to be captured and not even trying to come rescue me!

As she walked about the camp, looking among all the warriors for the shock of purple hair that would be Rastian, she instead found another person. It's the boy who was with me when we escaped, she realized, and he still looks as lost now as he did then!

"We never did introduce ourselves." She said as she walked up to him with a smile. Rastian could wait, meanie that he was. "I'm Senja. And you look a little lost."

Lerin stood at the edge of the disbanding troops. The Oban army had retreated long ago, and the rest of Tendaji was returning to their homes- their families and friends, the ones who were precious to them. He should do the same. He'd called the same location 'home' all his life, so he should certainly be thankful that he was allowed to return to it...

But he found that he wasn't.

He was pleased that he still had the freedom to come and go as he so chose, but it was hardly worth the hoopla the rest of the Tendajians seemed to be feeling. Doori seemed to disagree. The kinfa sat upon his shoulder, feathers puffed up as if she had accomplished some great victory as well. She, at least, Lerin found quite humorous. With a chuckle, he stroked her plush crest feathers and started off toward home. Or the home he assumed was still there.

But a vaguely familiar voice behind him gave Lerin pause, and he cast his grey gaze over his shoulder to see the pregnant woman who he'd escaped the Oban camp alongside. He returned her smile with one of his own. "That we didn't, lovely dove," he agreed with a slight chuckle. "My name is Lerin, and I..." He laughed. "Well, I'm not lost. I just... don't know where to go. Completely different, you see."

Senja gave him a sympathetic smile as she stood on her toes to ruffle the forlorn looking boys hair.
"I do understand. You can't see any path to take and you don't feel like going back along the path that brought you here. I felt something similar a while back... though I luckily found a group that gave me an outlet and plenty of path's to explore!" But then she'd been with a traveling troupe who'd given her something to do... a job and a chance to find out that music was far more her path than dancing. But what she didn't see any of those around to give this lad a boost! She felt a tug at her heart; poor boy! She just had to help him! Must be my maternal instinct kicking in, she thought with amusement.

"What do you want to do? Or like doing?" Best to start there, she thought. I don't think he wants to return home, but I don't want to give him bad advice that will get him hurt!

He didn't answer her question at all. XP

With a smile tugging at his lips, Lerin finger-combed the now-disheveled strands of hair back into place. No one had really been on particularly friendly terms when they were sitting in the Obans' camp as captives together. But it was reasonable enough to chalk it all up to stress. Besides, the lady was pregnant. She shouldn't have to endure such stressful situations. If she was feeling chipper and bright enough to engage him, how could he even consider turning her down?

"I suppose it is something like that," he admitted with a roll of his shoulders. "Only, I do see my paths. I see so many. The only problem is; I don't want to take any of them. None of them woo and inspire me. They're kind of... like the people I meet. No offense, of course." He dipped his head apologetically at her, in case she felt slighted.

"I used to have a girl," he continued. "She was beautiful, vibrant, adventurous, very outspoken, but somehow still dutiful, still... full of purpose. And every day I followed her wherever she wanted. Did whatever she wanted to do. She was my motivation, my reason to explore and see all the beauty and wonder in the world. But... she's gone now. Someone like her... she probably got caught up in this war and perished fighting for the things she was passionate about." Even as he said the words, his face heated and his eyes burned. With a murmured apology, he raised a hand to pinch at his brow, willing the flames to die back down. Before his hand drew away, he muttered, "Every day I regret not following her, no matter the consequence."

No he didn't XD

Senja made a sympathetic noise in the back of her throat as her question apparently triggered bad memories.

"But... that was her path was it not? It wasn't yours.. which is why you didn't follow her. You should never make you path follow anothers so closely no matter how much you love them. She does sound lovely but your feelings do not. Sounds like you gave up being you and became a yes-man and shadow to her." That always ended in disaster! She'd seen a lot of fellow musicians and dancers who gave up their career to be with the one they loved... and they never were able to settle down. She bopped him on the head.

"You need to go out and see the world more! See that this world is full of things other than this girl! It'll be tough and you'll probably sigh and mope and feel like it's not worth it... but I think if you go and see other lands, things that have nothing to do with your memory of this girl, you'll find something that makes you feel like yourself again.. or," she paused for a second. Maybe he shouldn't be the person he was but become someone new... The old one sounded like it was all wrapped up in this one person. Unhealthy that! "Or you'll find that the world is far more beautiful and vibrant than you thought and worth seeing. I found Zena's quiet pristine land to be perfect for introspection and thinking. Nothing but silence that lets your mind relax. Tall mountains and a wide world of snow that lets your mind expand...."

No way he saw all the paths possible! Not if he was moping for a girl who apparently had left him.

Lerin's brows furrowed and he glanced away. He was starting to get a rather sour taste in the back of his throat as the conversation turned toward something he didn't particularly want to hear. He hadn't been a shadow to Eritha. Just her best friend and companion for anything she wanted to do whenever she happened to do it. And even if he was just a shadow... he was happy. "I have to politely disagr-" He broke off in a startled yelp as her hand collided with his head. With a frown, Lerin stretched back away from her, his eyes narrowing. "No need to get physical about it..." Lerin muttered, reaching a hand up to rub at teh afflicted area. Doori's wings fluttered and she veered back to hold her position on his shoulder, while simultaneously managing to glare at Senja.

In any event, the lands she described didn't sound like a perfect fit for him. Something "tough" that made him "sigh and mope" couldn't possibly take away this awkward feeling of uselessness and unimportance that he held. If anything, it sounded like it would make it worse. And he wasn't exactly strong enough to go wandering on his own or physically prepared for dry desserts and frozen tundras. More likely than not, he'd die as soon as he got out of the forest...

He combed his fingers through a strand of hair that found its way over his shoulder. Rather than voice his actual concerns, he murmured, "I'm probably pretty ill-suited to take on that environment, and I don't exactly have anyone that I'd ask to come along with me. Except Doori." He rubbed a finger against the kinfa's chest.

Senja smiled. "Of course you'll disagree! This is just the opinion of a girl who left her home to go wander and see the world only to find that where she really wanted to be was at a place called home with family. But before that? All I wanted was out, I wanted to get away but didn't know where to go." Typical teenager, she thought wryly, I was't this bad! At least I tried!

"Right now? You bet you're ill suited!" Senja chuckled and shook her head. "That's why you've got to go out, go slowly if you're afraid but at least do something. You can't learn or grow by sticking mired in one spot... And if you don't like the paths before you then make a new one! But don't stay stuck in the past and don't say you 'can't' do it until you try."
He was right in that he didn't know anything. I almost died in a snowstorm in Zena so who knew what this lad will end up facing! But if he stays here he'll just mope over some girl and be useless!

"You know, with the war apparently over most will be heading back home. If you are worried about dying in the wilderness, why not ask if you can join a group that's leaving? Or you can stay here. Jauhur is full of secrets and beauty and I'm certain you haven't seen everything it has too offer if I haven't!" Excuses excuses! She crossed her arms and looked at him. "And you didn't say what you liked. Other than this girl and saying yes to what ever she wanted. And Doori."

With a quiet murmur, Lerin pinched the bridge of his nose between his fingers. She was certainly a persistent one, in any event, for some reason adamantly believing that she understood him and his life and thinking she had the answer to his qualms. And thinking the answer somehow mirrored her own path. That was the real kicker. Typical adult.

Of course, Lerin would never say such a thing out loud. That was inviting trouble that he perpetually didn't really wanted to deal with. Instead, he smoothed his hand back, catching strands of long hair between his fingers and skimming across the petals of the orange flower he wore. "Heh, I guess you're right," he told Senja with a smile as he looked back to her. "I'll take your words into consideration after I meet up with the rest of my family to make sure they're all okay." Hopefully that would at least appease her on one front. He wasn't particularly enthused about hearing any more of her alleged advice.

And he didn't say 'yes' to whatever Eritha wanted, he thought indignantly. She'd just had fun, entertaining ideas that were easy to follow along with. With a quiet murmur, he shook his head. "Things I like..." Lerin repeated whimsically. "Well, I like to see new things and new people. I love the sky in all its colors and beauty. I paint sometimes, so I do a lot of gathering for supplies. That's more habit than a 'like,' I think. I like feeling new things beneath my hands and feet, and I like watching people. What they do and say sometimes can be very surprising and entertaining."

Hmm, I ought to go read up on Lerin's history XD Haven't done that cause I don't want it coloring how Senja reacts to your posts.

Take your words not consideration? He means ignore it. Senja shrugged with an inner sigh; his loss! it was just her advice, he didn't have to take it. Be nice if he did...
And he'll have to go find a different way to travel, since he apparently wasn't going to take the opportunity to leave and see other places with the people who were even now leaving to return to the far corners of Tendaji. Was a good idea too! She thought a little sulkily but didn't say out loud.

"People watching is fun," She agreed with a grin. "And it seems you like new things.. so you should go and see other lands. Maybe paint them! The skies over Zena are much more clear and vivd than the jungle!" Probably al the cold air and being so high up, but it was pretty!

"You should go home and make sure your family's okay, but please think about going out and seeing the savanna, mountains, and oceans. Seems like your stuck and leaving home for a while may open your eyes and help you decide which path to take... At least it'll let you know all your options!" Senja did not know when to drop a subject; she felt like she should help this boy... must be material instincts kicking in including the nagging!

Lerin smiled sheepishly and rubbed the back of his head, insistent fingers smoothing almost harshly at the orange petals of his hairpin as a sense of frustration and entrapment at her words started to sink in. "As I said, I have a lot to think about. Leaving home isn't a decision to take lightly, and I don't want to rush to a conclusion I can't commit to. I'll consider your advice," he repeated more adamantly.

In any event, he should still try to derail Senja's nagging. She was with child, which led Lerin to believe there was at least one other person in her life. Takes two to tango and all that. "Anyway, you must be having trouble reuniting with your family as well... Seems a great deal of people scattered during the conflict... If you like, I can help you locate them, or at least stay with you until they appear." Not that she seemed to be the 'lonely' type, or anything. "If it is of no inconvenience to you, of course," Lerin added as an afterthought.

Senja gave up her pestering with a shrug; not like he was her son or brother so she probably shouldn't treat him as such!
"I would appreciate your help with finding my family..." Being short meant is was rather hard to see through crowds... and even harder to find another short person!

"I am not sure which of my family are here honestly... I got captured as we were leaving Neued and... " She stopped and clenched her teeth before smiling again. "Well, not sure where they are. My husband.... he wasn't at Neued so there's a good chance he might be here... He's short like me but has really vivd purple hair. While we're looking for my family, maybe we'll find some of yours?"

Lerin paused, gaze sinking to the ground in thought. Of course, she'd have been captured instead of going willingly, and if she had then her family probably had as well. Which meant... there was really no telling where they were or what could've happened to them. There always was that chance that they hadn't escaped, and the Obans (being like most other people) had seen fir to take out their frustrations on something.

She probably didn't need him to tell her that, though.

Because it was just as likely that that hadn't happened. Sinking his hand into hers and twining their fingers, Lerin shrugged as they started off. "It's possible," he admitted carelessly. "My mother surrendered alongside me, so if she escaped she probably stayed here. I don't imagine my father was this close to the front lines, though. He's probably in hiding. There is the off-chance that others of my tribe will be here. Some of them are more... activist than my relatives."

"Surrendered?" Senja looked up at him quizzically. "Why do that?" Maybe they were trying to avoid getting hurt.. but it still seemed a little pointless to her. Why surrender? It just made the already arrogant Obans think them even lesser! But.. she could also see the other side... It was easy to say fight and don't surrender while here and safe... but for non fighters it was a lot harder when faced with violence!

"At least you know they are still alive." She said as she patted the hand holding hers.

Lerin sighed softly. Slim fingers from his free hand came up to comb through the long dark strands of his hair, raking it forward and tousling aimlessly at the ends. "It... is a lot or trouble," he admitted with a slight dip of his shoulders. "I'm not attached to my home, nor am I strong enough to fight. I probably could've run with my father, but I didn't know where he was going or for how long or if he would be successful in escape... They promised leniency to those who surrendered, and considering that I'm not injured, they as good as gave it. Look down on my mother and I, if you must, but I don't think we made the wrong choice."

She patted Lerin's hand sympathetically. "I can understand not being able to fight... My family was attacked as we fled Neued so it's not like we stayed to fight! If I had been alone and not with my family..." She stared off into the distance. Alone? Faced with weapons? You bet she'd have surrendered! "Well, I would have surrendered too. But Neued had warriors in it and we believed they would win or... at least keep us safe." She sighed. They'd done their best and had gotten most of the on combatants out so it hadn't been a complete lost.
"I am unsure of how long that leniency would have held for some of the girls considering that captain..." She muttered darkly under her breath as she recalled the disgusting man.
