Heaven-Leigh watched her son as he tried numerous times to procure the very last apple from the only tree in the orchard that hadn't yet succumbed to Autumn's pull on all of it's leaves. Heaven-Leigh found it troublesome, amusing, and slightly endearing that Tristan still insisted on trying to fly up to the branch and grab the apple even though he knew (at least she thought he knew) that he had no wings whatsoever. It had always been a sort of make-believe thing for him that he just never seemed to outgrow. He seemed to have fun trying to fly at any rate, and his jumping had become quite superb. Like her son, she too had a bird for a friend who seemed to like living in her hair, but she had never thought that Skylar could give her the power to fly.
Skylar was twittering around happily watching Tristan and Magic. Skylar was glad to have another bird to communicate with, even though she still stuck close to Heaven-Leigh wherever she went.
"You know," she chirruped, "he might just reach it by jumping!"
Heaven-Leigh laughed. "Looks that way, doesn't it?"
Tristan was aware that he had an audience to his little game of "fly and catch the apple," but rather than embarrass him it made him try all the harder. He knew he had no wings and that try as he might, he would never be able to fly like Magic. He was quite good at pretending though, and Magic was nice enough to play along.
Magic hopped up and down on the branch that held the apple. "Almost there!" he called. "Am I going to have to give you another flying lesson? This is pathetic! Come on man!" Magic continued to hop, as if his weight might lower the branch and help Tristan reach it.
"Alright, that's it!" Tristan called, a smirk on his face. "I'll show you who's best at flying!" With that, Tristan turned around and trotted away. Next second he was galloping at full speed back towards the apple tree. At the last second he jumped as high as he could, soared through the air, nearly looking like he was flying, and grabbed the apple between his teeth. He landed with a triumphant, "Humph," and a "crunch" as he bit into the apple.
Heaven-Leigh laughed and neighed appreciatively. He had done it after all. Getting apples from the orchard reminded her of when she first met Triboulet and she smiled. Too bad it was the last apple, because an apple was sounding really good at the moment.Nymphalidae Quoting in case you missed it ^^
