The phone call was bothering her.

Raven tapped her finger nervously on the steering wheel of her car, biting her lip in frustration. Why wouldn’t this damn light change already?

She glanced at her phone, wondering if Lydia was going to call again. She just sounded so…so awful on the phone…

Weak and scared and alone and…

Ugh. Finally, there went the light. Raven peeled away from the other cars and finally made it to the hospital, finding a parking spot with relative ease and making her way to the other girl’s room. To her friend’s room. To the room of really the only person in the court that she actually gave two damns about.

“Lydia, I’m here, what the hell’s going on? Are you all right?” In one hand she had a bouquet of flowers, and in the other she held the string of a balloon and a cute teddy bear. If someone was in the hospital, clearly you needed to bring gifts or else…well, or else that really didn’t even make a hospital visit worthwhile.

She crossed over to the red head in the hospital bed and sat in the chair next to her. “What the hell happened?” Her voice sounded harsh, and almost accusatory…but she was worried. This didn’t look good, and all the beeping didn’t sound good…and…

And damn it she was worried!

It was just a precaution, keeping here there over night. The wound had been so close to so many vital things, that they'd insisted on her staying, despite vehement protests. Of course, in the end, she'd lost the fight, so now she sat in the hospital bed, pale figure dressed in scrubs(there had been no way she was wearing a gown.). There were dark rings beneath her eyes like bruises, and a thick bandage at the side of her neck.

When Raven arrived she'd find the ginger staring silently out the window, but her head lifted at the familiar voice, and she managed a quick, genuine smile, as she saw the blonde, the flowers, the bundle of balloons. "Did you leave anything for other visiting loved ones?" It looked like she'd cleaned out the gift shop.

"I'm alright." Now. Mostly. Small fingers curled into the blankets pooled in her lap. She cast a look over Raven's shoulder, at the door, and gave a very small shake of her head in response to her other questions.

"Close the door, would you?" She kept her tone chipper, though one look at delicate features would say other wise. Strain and exhaustion taking their toll.

Raven blinked, frowning deeply at her friend’s appearance. She moved to the bed, placing the bear and the flowers down beside Lydia. After kissing the redhead’s cheek as lightly as she could, the blonde moved to the door, closing it with a soft snap.

Finally she turned around again, feeling as though she must look rather silly, holding balloons with such a worried an angry expression. She tried to smile though, she really did, it just…wasn’t working.

Moving to the chair next to the hospital bed, Raven sat down, looking ready to hear the whole story now the door was closed. “Seriously though, Lyd…who did this to you? Who do I have to kill?” She was half joking…maybe less than half joking. She might not have had much loyalty to the court, the loyalty she held to the members she chose to be loyal to was quite great…and this was something that was quite unforgiveable. Lydia looked like death, and that was something Raven just couldn’t ignore.

A soft smile answered that frown. "I really am alright." At least physically. The wound was stitched up, she'd had a round of antibiotics to fight off infection, and and there was an iv in her hand to replace the fluids she'd lost. If she was perhaps a touch paler than her usual milky complexion, well. It had been a hard few days. Weeks, really.

Raven's threat had soft features turning stony, and she gave a very firm shake of her head that resulted in a sharp wince and a hand coming up to the side of her neck. "You can't," she said adamantly, fear widening her eyes. "You have to promise me you won't."

It hit her then, that she hadn't made Chaonis make the same promise. That even now, he could have been out there, hunting that ******** b***h. Hurt, bleeding, dying. No. No he wouldn't... Would he?

Fingertips trembled as she wrapped them in the blankets covering hr lap. "Please, I can't worry about you, too."

Raven blinked, swallowing. She had not expected this sort of a reaction, and the anger in her died at once, replaced with concern. “Hey, don’t move like that, you’ll hurt yourself more…okay, I won’t go after whoever hurt you…I promise…”

The blonde reached out, taking Lydia’s hand, squeezing it gently. “I promise…”

It was a long moment before Raven spoke again, but finally she thought of something to say. “What do you mean you can’t worry about me too? Who else are you worrying about?” She didn’t think it was going to be a difficult question, honestly she was only asking to try and fill the silence that was permeated with the awful beeping from hospital machines. One thumb gently stroked the back of the other girl’s hand and just felt so bad for her…if only she had been there. Maybe she could have done something to help…

The promise was reassuring enough to have the ginger settling back against her pillows with a long sigh, eyes closing. Painite needed to die, but the b***h was strong, ruthless. She'd fended off three senshi and a royal knight the evening before, and she didn't dare imagine what the general would do to Lesath should the blonde go after her. Not that the eternal of moths wasn't strong, but...

It was just better if she stayed away from Painite. One less thing for Lydia to worry about.

Silence settled around them, but Lydia didn't feel compelled to break it just yet. She lay back, listening to the sound of her own pulse beeping, before that innocent question had her opening her eyes.

How much did she trust Raven? Lesath. How much was she willing to tell the other girl? They had grown so close, shared the same weariness for the war they had been drug into. Countless conversations, secrets shared. She'd told Raven everything, except for this...

But maybe she needed an ally on this side. Of course she trusted Chaonis and Camelot, but she could only stay powered up so long.

So, hesitantly, she turned her hand in Raven's hold, squeezing those slender fingers. "Chanois."

Raven gave the other girl a confused sort of look and wracked her brain, trying to place a face to the name…or the object? Or the whatever. Finally after what felt to her like quite a long time of thinking she came out with the first thing her mind could come up with. “…What’s a Chaonis?”

She wasn’t trying to be dumb, she just didn’t know if it was a person or a place or some sort of code? If it was a person, she was quite sure she didn’t know who it was…but she really hoped Lydia would elaborate, because even though she could see that saying the name of the thing had cost Lydia a great deal of strength…she was completely in the dark.

“I’ve never heard of Chaonis. Is it something that’s important to you?” Of course it was. Gosh she was coming up with all of the great one liners today…but it wasn’t something she was familiar with…so…

She was doing the best she could, damn it.

She had expected his reputation to proceed him, but apparently not. Lydia blinked up at Raven, considering just leaving it at the name, but she owed the other girl more than that.

"Chaonis, eternal Senshi of Danger." Not corrupted, not Dark Mirror.

Her lower lip rolled in, teeth catching and biting down on it as she waited, watching Raven's face.

Eternal senshi of danger. Just eternal? No chaos involved? Raven was kind of intrigued, but maybe it was like herself and Acubens had been. Maybe this Chaonis was someone Lydia was trying to bring over to their side…which was…

Well if that was what she wanted, Raven wasn’t going to say anything against it. The blonde nodded finally, giving a little smile. “So…is he someone you’re trying to get to convert or something…? Someone you’re going to bring to my boyfriend so he can work his stupid voo-doo prince magic and make him one of us or…?”

The question hung in the air at least a little. But Raven was sure she knew the answer, what other answer could there be? There was no way out of the court once you joined up. It was a dead end deal. And a stupid one at that.

Pale eyes never left Raven's face as she tried to work through what Lydia was saying. In a way, she was relieved the other girl had never encountered Chaonis, it meant there was no bias against him. Not like she knew Quinn carried.

At the same time, it made it harder on the ginger. Confessing this secret was hard enough without going into detail, but she needed an ally on this side, someone she could depend on, someone she trusted, that she could go to, cry to, cling to.

Lips pressing together, she gave a shake of her head. No, Chaonis would never join the Dark Mirror court, and Navi would never ask him. They had made that promise to each other a long time ago, to never pressure the other, to never judge, to live only in the moment, think only of each other.

Raven nodded. “Well, all right then. That’s no big deal. When can I meet this guy? I need to make sure he’s good enough for you, you know. Because, nobody gets to date my best friend without my express permission.” She leaned down, kissing Lydia’s cheek.

“He had better sweep me off my feet so he gets my permission. I’m pretty judgmental. He’s a nice guy? I hope he is, for his sake. And if he ever breaks your heart, I’m going to break off his d**k, you got that?” She leaned back, still holding Lydia’s hand.

So long as her friend was happy, that was what mattered. She didn’t give to shits her friend was seeing someone on the side of the white moon. He didn’t have to come to their side. So long as he was treating Lydia…er…Navi all right. Well. That was what mattered.

Besides. It wasn’t as though the court was any good anyway. To be honest, she was pretty anti-people joining the DMC anyway. So..

“I want to meet him, Lyd. And soon, please.”

The utterly blase response to this news was enough to have ginger brows dipping as Raven leaned in to lay a kiss on the Lydia's forehead. She frowned, blinking up into that lovely face as the blonde went on to insist she meet Chaonis, that he needed to wow her, to prove he was good enough to be with Lydia...well, Navi.

"Wait." This was a little much. "Wait wait, hold on." One hand came up waving between them. This was a lot to take in. Not just the unquestioning acceptance, but the demand to meet him.

She took a deep breath, chest rising and falling before giving Raven's hand a soft squeeze. "He's nice," she offered lamely, still quite shocked, not to mention the pain killers running through that small body. "He loves me." This she knew for certain. "He hates chaos, hates our court, but he loves me."

Glancing down, she tried to imagine telling him that a friend wanted to meet him, what his reaction might be. It made he smile. "I'll tell him. I don't know when we'd be able to, but we'll set something up."

Looking up again, she focused on pale eyes, wondering just how honest she wanted to be here.

Raven nodded. “Good. Set something up. I mean it, Lyd. If he’s not up to scratch with me, and if he treats me bad because I’m part of our dumb court, I’ll kick him in the nuts and I won’t even care. Seriously. I mean it. He had better be on his best behavior.” She fussed for a moment with her hair and sighed. “I hope he’s wonderful. I want to like him, and honestly…if he loves you this much. I want him to like me too!”

It wasn’t so difficult of a thing to think about. Love was love, right? Sides didn’t matter…of course, the one thing that bothered her was the thing when Lydia said the guy hated chaos and hated the court…it seemed so harsh. What if he treated her with open hostility…? Maybe she should try and see him without Navi there…really judge him for herself…

The blonde sighed, stretching slightly. “I don’t know, Lyd. I just don’t know what to do with you. You really need to take care of yourself honey. I worry about you so much.” She felt like she was a broken record...but Lydia was her best friend in the court...and she didn't want...anything bad to happen to her...like this whole getting her neck sliced open. That counted as bad. Very bad.

This conversation was going a different direction than expected, and despite the fact that it was actually going favorably, Lydia was still left feeling vaguely exhausted. Which, to be fair, might have been the pain killers running through her system.

"If you've never encountered him, and you're with me, He shouldn't have any reason to see you as a threat." She frowned, thoughtfully. It was such a complicated scenario. Senseless violence from both sides, attacking blindly. Navi was guilty of it. She had been quite the relentless little hunter when she'd first awoken into this war. She knew how ugly the war could be.

A sigh followed Raven's concerns, and she nodded, lips pressing together. Now or never... "I need to...tell yous something." it came out quiet, hesitant. A clear indication that whatever it is that was on her tongue was even harder to speak about than being in love with a member of the white moon court. "And you can't tell anyone else. Especially not your boyfriend."

Was that a flash of fear in hazel eyes? Indeed it was.

Raven nodded. “I won’t tell anyone anything that we’ve talked about, Lyd. You can trust me, and if you think you can’t…well, when you’re feeling better I’ll bop you right on the nose for thinking that. Besides, why the hell would I tell that overripe boyfriend of mine anything? It’s not like he shares a damn thing with me, so I’m not going to share a damn thing with him. Ever. Seriously.”

She crossed her arms over her chest, clearly kind of put off by Lyida still thinking she would spill all of her secrets. Was she really that kind of a girl? She didn’t think she went around telling things like a songbird. And if she did, she really wished someone would have told her she acted like that.

“No, what’s going on? What’s really bothering you right now? Tell me…I want to help if I can, honest.”
