It had been 5 or 6 hours after the new dragonets had been fed and tucked into their bed. Vos was pleased to find she had a bunk with her twin. If they hadn't, she would have asked for reassignment. After asking Ves to make sure it was ok of course. In the end she needn't worry.

The sun was new in the sky when an insistent voice had awoken her. At first she hadn't recognized it. It wasn't her twin's voice. A gentle reminder from the owner of the voice made her bolt up. A large golden head rested in her lap. A bright blue eye staring at her adoringly as the creature demanded to be fed again.

"But your belly is still half full," Vos replied doubtfully, eyeing the still slightly bulging belly. She'd have to oil the dragon again soon or risk cracks. Killakeeth had insisted she was hungry. Vos dutifully led her dragon out into the morning light for a feeding. Once cleaned, and after oiling the young dragon, the pair had returned to their bunk. Vos had sat at the edge of the bed. Gently stroking the trusting creature and admiring her.

Killa for her part was content. She was so full she couldn't manage another bite. Her hide glisten with oil. She had several eyelids closed with her head resting on her rider's lap. Each time the hand stroked her hide, she gave a soft sound, very much like a cat.

K'err awoke early, with the sun, as he was used to. He was not, however, used to the late nights as much.

Sirinth was having none of that.

"It's too early," he mumbled quietly.

"Sirinth..."

How could he argue with that?

F'in was sound asleep, and K'err made as little commotion and disturbance as possible as he stood. "And you rest up... F'in," he whispered. He pulled his tunic on, gingerly placing his left arm in the sleeve, fishing past the open claw marks. Slip of the boots and he was ready to go.

As the pair made their way to the Bowl through the dark weyr, a dragon shone particularly bright... Oiled? He squinted, trying to make out more detail. And... yep. Gold.

"Vos?" K'err whispered as he approached. "Wow... your gold is so beautiful!"

Sirinth bowed to Killakeeth, then looked to K'err.

I can see that, K'err thought back, and he was stung by a tiny pang of offense. But thanks! Much better.

"Early morning for you too, huh?" he asked Vos.

She looked up at the sound of foot steps, booted and clawed, and a soft voice. A grin crossed the teen's face as she spied the speaker. Semi-softly she spoke, "hey Kylerr!" Vos waved him to come over. She continued to pet the head in her lap and blushed slightly. Her gold was beautiful. If demanding.

"Thanks. So is yours. Green I mean. Yeah, she insisted she was hungry, though she hadn't finished her last meal. I don't know how she could be. What are you doing up so early?" Vos looked between rider and dragon. Though sleepy, she was more than ready to sit and talk awhile.

At the sound of voices, she pulled back several eyelids to see who it was. Killa gave a pleased, if soft, croon at the compliment. She was sexy and she knew it. Pleased by the bow from the green as well she gave a comment, "nice morning Sirinth. Where are you and Yours off to so early?" If she could have been stretched out on a sunny patch of rock purring, she would have been.

K'err crouched in front of her, a hand petting Sirinth, who sat next to him. "Too used to getting up early, I guess." He rubbed the little green's ridges. "Or this one's stomach rumbled so loud she woke both of us up!"

Sirinth gave a pout. K'err pet her more and she nuzzled up into his hand. she told Killakeeth sheepishly. He was very frank about such things.

"And, well, yours is a gold," K'err added. "She wants what she wants and she gets what she needs." He paused, his brow furrowing in thought. "Or... well, who knows how that'll go now, though, right?"

she shot at him privately.

I can't, Sirinth... I just can't. I'm not going to fake that everything is going to be as it always has been. He turned his attention back to Vos. "Sorry, that was really heavy. And I'm sorry..." I've never asked her dragon's name!

she informed him.

"Sorry, Killakeeth," he finished. Thank you, he thought to Sirinth.

He should totally tell her he changed his name. XD

"Ah that makes sense. My twin is a bit of an early riser." Vosin laughed at the comment about his green's stomach. "It's better than waking to a lump of a head in your lap," she chuckled. Despite her words, Vos gazed fondly at the slowly whirling blue eye looking loving back at her. They would always be together.

She smiled as she saw him petting his green. They were all smitten with their dragons that much was clear.

She gave a long, slow exhale of contentment as her sibling mentioned she'd been woken by hunger too. Killa was pleased she'd gotten first pickings. See Vosin? I'm not the only one who was hungry. She perked up a bit as Sirinth mentioned her and Hers were going to get his lute and sing. Are you? I look forward to listening to you then.

The teen tilted her head thoughtfully. She wasn't quite sure what he was pushing for. Instead she temporized, "well she is a gold. I don't really see how that will matter much. The wherholds are all about proving your merits right?" In truth she didn't feel much different from the candidate who stood eagerly on the Sands. Well except for the shiny gold dragon following her everywhere and demanding attention.

"That is true. I do rather pamper her a bit. Do you pamper yours?" It was a sad dragonrider who wouldn't take care of their dragon.

Vos shook her head earnestly. "No Kylerr! If you have a question please ask." She looked at him expectantly, still not sure what he was thinking.

The young gold turned her head slightly to observe the boy. She spoke directly to him, you are right. I do demand a great many things. I also expect to get what I demand. There is no need to apologize, though your heart is in the right place, I have not taken offence. Killa gave a soft reassuring croon to the pair.

Well, he hasn't really settled into hearing other people use it yet. lol It's still quite early for him to have really thought about having to answer to the other and not both. XD; That's my thinking anyway.

"Aw, I think it sounds adorable to wake up with a lump of a head in my lap!" he said. "Though I guess I shouldn't really say anything until it's happened." He laughed.

Sirinth said.

You shall! he thought back.

Sirinth regarded Killakeeth.

"Well..." Kylerr began, pausing to collect his thoughts. "I suppose it suits you, really. Or at least what I know of you. The only thing stopping you from advancing here is you, after all. To not have the top rank in the wherhold handed to you doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would hold you back. That's what I mean. Anywhere else, to Impress a Gold dragon - the only Gold dragon, well, you know."

He addressed Vos's follow-up question. "Oh, I have every intent to pamper her to death," he said.

Sirinth asked.

"Just an expression, dearest," he replied.

K'err was a little taken aback by the Gold's voice being there. He forgot that could happen, too. He nodded at her words and reassurance, emboldening him to continue.

She's a gold, but she's not a queen, Sirinth. Not by birthright, but maybe one day she will be. he thought to Sirinth. "I guess... it's really hard, knowing songs rich with adoration for the old ways, having drilled them for so long, to know what to make of this. I feel like I should owe you some sort of deference, and I'm trying very hard to remember that by the rules of the wherhold you're still simply the girl I wistfully talked to about the future outside the barracks just a little while ago. And that yours chose you for being that person." He smiled. "You two seem to suit each other. Inquisitive, headstrong, personable. And I've rambled on quite a while now, sorry," he said.

Sirinth told Killakeeth. Oh! she added.

Lol, that makes sense though. ^_^ I am so sorry for the wall of text! 0.0

She grinned. It really wasn't bad and she liked waking up to Killa's adoring eyes. Vos continued to lightly pet the soft hide of her dragon. She liked the closeness, much like her twin bond except closer. The teen contemplated his words and the pale dragon sitting at her feet. In a normal weyr, a gold dragon and her rider had a position of power automatically. Maybe a bit less if you were a junior weyrwoman than the senior. For the first time, it struck her forcefully in the gut. She was a junior weyrwoman. She'd never asked to be this. All she'd wanted was a dragon. She'd gotten her wish and so much more.

Would they really try to be something? Vos thought it might be too soon to tell. One thing though, she really needed to talk to Anali. The more experienced woman could give her an idea of what to expect from the wherholds. She nodded at his words. She could go as far as she wanted and was willing to push herself and her dragon. "Thanks Kylerr. I really want to do my best. I won't expect the easy life to be handed to me." Vos wanted to work for what she earned. Her goal to become a dragonrider had been fulfilled. Sure she still had a lot to learn, but it was no longer a question. She hoped her twin would be at her side no matter what.

Another thought occurred to her. One that troubled her slightly, so she turned to her friend to help her figure it out. "Say Kylerr? Malvren doesn't have a goldrider does it?" Vos chewed thoughtfully on a nail. "Do you think they might try to send Killakeeth and I there when she's grown up?" That wouldn't be too bad, she thought. Instead of being junior weyrwoman at Benden, she'd be senior at Malvren. Unless Anali wanted Malvren of course, but she didn't think so. The one thing that did bother her was what would happen to her twin? Her family? Her friends? Would they all stay at Benden? Vos didn't want to be separated from them. Was it selfish of her to ask them to transfer with her?

"Sometimes..... Sometimes I think the leaders of the weyrholds don't actually care about the gold dragons. They only want more breeders." It was saddening in a way. They now had two golds. Vos wondered whether the crimson from the clutch would try to become a breeder or fighter. If the pair tried for breeder, they'd be in almost the same situation as Vos and Killa, except less so as the crimsons didn't clutch every time. "I think Keller doesn't really care about her, only the eggs she could produce." It left a sour taste in her mouth to only think of her dragon as.... as a broodmare!

I am glad you and Yours are well matched Sirinth. You will sing a song for me at the feast won't you? Killakeeth made her demand somewhat less with the question. She'd love to hear a song for herself, and she was curious what the pair would come up with. The thought of work from her driven rider made the young dragon look up.

You will find the time to relax and fun too, won't you Vosin? The tone of the gold's voice to her rider promised they would have fun together.

The teen wrapped her arms around her dragon's neck with a snicker. Of course we won't always be working. There will be plenty of time to have fun. Vos laughed at his comment. "I know right? I feel like Killa is going to pop every time I feed her and she wants so much." She eyed the dragonet's very large, and full belly. "You will let that empty before we fill it again." Of course that meant it would probably take twice as long as Killa would demand to be just as full as she was now. Vos would indeed be grateful when the gold could feed herself.

She swung her feet a moment at the mention of the traditional songs about dragonriders. "I know what you mean." All her childhood she'd heard and been taught from the learning songs. Songs that spoke of rider bravery and noble deeds. It seemed only yesterday that that ideal was changing. Now Killa might as well have been a green. Vos sat up straighter. "It will be what we make of it Kylerr! What Keller has started we will finish." Conviction brightened her eyes. This was a goal worthy of her. With Vesin, and the others, beside her, she was sure it could be pulled off. The teen wasn't sure Keller was the right man to finish the job. Maybe it was time for another revolution, but first they needed to grow up.

Vos blinked with surprise at his confession of showing deference. Rightfully, she couldn't ask anyone to show her deference that she hadn't earned, and she wasn't going to. However, she grinned. "I appreciate the thought, but really, I'd just like to be treated normally. Don't think of me as anything special. Just be my friend." She offered her hand as if sealing a deal. Vos laughed as a hint of pink on her cheeks made her light freckles stand out just a bit more. "We do, just as you two do. Now we understand what the riders mean when they say your dragon completes you. Nah don't worry about that! I like you being you."
