Ermey was off on his own again. While he indeed loved spending time with his family and going out on adventures, he also loved doing things on his own. Somehow, it felt a bit awkward being with his mother sometimes. Not because he was embarrassed, he was just... not the same species. He didn't look like she did. He didn't look like his brother, either. His other brother, yet, but not Fentara. He had his mother were a mix of lion and leopard, while he looked just like a normal lion. But he knew he wasn't. Inside, he was a half leopard, too. He had just been born different. Not lucky, he imagined. He jumped up on some rocks, exploring a nearby mountain range that stood on the borders of the pride. Maybe he would find someone he needed to help. Something that would show his mother and his brother that, even though he was different, he could still help like a real hero.

To say that Njiti was thinking any particularly deep thoughts today would be a massive lie. Today was a good day, a day where she had found another part of the Pridelands to explore! It was rare that she found a new place to adventure in, so this was quite a delight! This particular border had many interesting rocks, nooks and crannies to explore. Perhaps she would discover something cool!
At the very least, based on the rock she was standing on, she was about to find a new friend! Granted, given the size of her pride, finding a new friend was much easier than finding a new place to explore. Still, a new friend was always welcome!
"Hiya, stranger!" Njiti shouted out. She didn't really think about if a sudden voice in the rocks would startle someone. Njiti lived her life in happy exclamation points.

"Holy sweet Mkodi!" Yelped Ermey, startled when someone called out to him. His footing slipped out from under him, the lion toppling paws over head down the rocks the way he had come. Thankfully, he hadn't progressed high up or it might have been a much more painful fall. A couple grunts later, he was lying on the ground, the lion letting out a loud groan as he sat himself up slowly. Looking up, he saw the lioness, offering her a smile. "Well! Looks like you got the jump on me!" He laughed lightly, "hello! Nice day for exploring some rocks, isn't it?" He felt a little embarrassed that he had fallen just because someone had surprised him, but he didn't mind too much. It was better that he hadn't gotten hurt from it. That might have managed to sour his mood. As it stood, he was still happy to see someone new.

"Oops!" Njiti squeaked as she watched her fellow lion topple down the rocks at the sound of her voice. That was not part of the plan. The plan was to make a new friend who liked climbing rocks. Supposing he stopped liking climbing rocks because of this silly fall?
At the sound of the lion's laughter, Njiti relaxed. "I didn't mean to get the jump on you, but my mom always did say I was...what's the word...boisterous!" She shrugged and stared at the rock outcropping for a moment, sizing it up for future reference. "It's always a good day for exploring, though today is especially good for exploring the rocks. And I haven't been to this particular set of rocks before, so today is especially a good day. I'm really glad you weren't hurt just now. Maybe we can explore them together?" If he felt like keeping up with her, that is. Njiti wasn't really the slowing down type of lioness.

Ermey got himself to his paws, climbing back up to where the lioness was roaming around. She seemed very energetic, and he was glad for it- it wasn't every day he got to spend time with very happy lions. Sure, the members of the pride was kind and generally in good moods, but no one ever seemed as interested in exploring as he was. So this was a nice change. "I would be happy to explore them with you!" he chuckled lightly, "as long as you don't plan on scaring me down to the bottom of them!" He was teasing, of course, and offered her a grin to prove it. "My name is Ermey! Who are you?"

"Nice to meet ya, Ermey! My name's Njiti, on account of my parents thinking I looked like a cute little shrub in the middle of the savannah," the lioness giggled. "I haven't really stopped moving around since. Maybe they should have named me after a whirlwind or something." This brought stronger laughter from the lioness.
"But I don't intend to scare anyone, unless they're a vicious hyena intent on hurting people." Was that really a scowl crossing her face? That would never do at all. "But you're not a hyena, and you like climbing rocks and exploring, so I already like you, Ermey."
"Tell me, since you were up higher, did you see any good footholds going up?"

"I like you too, Njiti!" Laughed Ermey, "you're very spirited. It makes me happy to see someone who isn't so... boring." Some of the pride members could get very complacent with their lives. Which was fine and dandy for them, he supposed. but he came from a family of heroes! There had to be more to life than sitting around and doing nothing. "I saw what looked like a pretty good path not far up," he said with a nod, "I think there's a good route all the way to the top!" He moved to continue along his previous path, motioning for the lioness to follow. "I'm not sure what my name means," he chuckled lightly as he continued the previous discussion, "but maybe something about hybrids? My mom is half lion, half leopard, so I guess that means I have a little leopard in me, too." He chuckled lightly, "you can see it more on my brother than me, though."

Spirited! That was a good word for herself. Njiti made a mental note to save that word for later as she started to follow Ermey's movements. "Yeah, I tried sitting around by the watering hole once, talking to the other lions, but their conversation was mostly about finding a good hunting spot or an equally good place to lounge around. No one cared about the cool things I saw or found. It was so silly."
"I bet there's an awesome view at the top!" she exclaimed, before she listened to Ermey's tail of leopards, lions, and hybrids. How interesting. "I've never met a leopard before, or even a part leopard. At least, I don't think so. How can you tell?"

Ermey chuckled. "Well, you can't tell with me, but on my brother he has a much shorter mane and his tail looks like a leopard's tail, not a lion's. Same with my mom- she has a leopard tail, too! And they're really big, too. Bigger than lions and leopards, at least in my family. It's pretty cool. Maybe you can meet my brother or my mom sometime!" He smiled at the spirited female, moving up the mountain. "I'll race you to the top! If I win, you have to catch us dinner! How's that?" He chuckled lightly as he bounded up the rocky path, looking for good places to put his paws as he maneuvered himself up towards the top. He didn't mind if he lost or won, as long as he got to spend more time with an interesting lioness before heading home.

Njiti listened to the description of Ermey's family, imagining larger than life figures on the savannah with odd tails but kind dispositions. "I'd love to meet your family! Especially if they're fun and like climbing and exploring too. They sound really interesting."
At the challenge, she crinkled her nose for a moment at the thought of having to do extra hunting. It's not that it was a difficult thing to do, mind you, but it was kind of an annoying chore, and she sometimes felt bad for the prey. Then again, a challenge was fun! "You're on! If I win, you'll have to be the one catching dinner!" With that, Njiti focused on climbing to the top, though it was hard to find footholds while giggling. It didn't really matter who won at this point; today she had a new and interesting friend, and that was worth much more than beating someone in a race. Cajanic And fin! Thanks! Those two really do work well together.
