Rai had been chilling out on her favorite flat rock inside the pride lands, just relaxing in the heat of the mid-day sun. She had been perfectly happy to stay there all day, but she ended up finding something even more interesting than sleep- she spotted a lion not too far from her. A lion that almost seemed familiar, though she was sure she hadn't actually seen him before. The pride was huge, after all, and she rarely met other lions. Most of the time, she just liked to chill on her own. When she was feeling lonely, she found a nice lion to have a good time with. That usually took the gloomies right out of her. She was definitely not the kind of lion who was waiting for that special someone. She wanted to remain alone. Sighing heavily, she wandered her way over to the lion she had seen before, sitting herself not far from him. "Hey you," she said sharply, trying to get his attention and not that concerned about startling him, "you look familiar- do I know you from somewhere?"

A sunny day and a nice rock outcropping for enjoying the weather? This should have been Mvua's kind of day. Instead, he was lost in his own thoughts about family and living up to the legacy his mother left him. His father never occupied his thoughts. That guy was a jerk who never stuck around to help his mother raise him and his five siblings. FIVE! That was insane enough without a jerk not standing up for his family. Yeah, that would never be Mvua. One of these days he was going to settle down and be a loving father and mate. He just hadn't met the right lioness yet. Mvua nearly jumped at the sharp words in his general direction. He really should have noticed the black lioness beforehand, and had no one to blame but himself for his woolgathering. "I don't believe we've met..." Mvua began, before noticing the patches of color on her fur, and her green eyes. Black fur, patches of color, green eyes? That could only mean one thing..."But we're related somehow, I'm certain. You have my mother's black fur. The only question is, which of my five siblings are you a child or grandchild of?" Wait, his siblings could be grandparents? Geeze, he really needed to work on getting his personal affairs in order.

When he said they could be related, she gave a slow nod. "That's gotta be it, then," she replied thoughtfully, "you totally looked familiar to me, but I know we've never met. That must be why." She hummed lightly. He asked about her family and she had to think for a moment. She was such a laid back lioness, she didn't often communicate with others, particularly her family. Not because she hated them or they had ever hurt her in anyway, she just... spent time on her own a lot. Maybe it was in her blood or something. "My parents are Imara and Ghilt. Ringing any bells for you?" She asked, admittedly a little interested in learning how they were related now that the thought had occurred in the male. she never would have connected those dots on her own, sad to say.

Oh jeeze, this was actually going to take some thought on Mvua's part. It's not that he didn't love his family or want to keep track of what was going on with them, but there were so many...and that wasn't even including his jackal aunts and uncles, who he hadn't seen in ages. "The name Ghilt...hmmm..." Mvua frowned in concentration, until one could say a bolt of lightning flashed in his mind. "If he's Radi's son Ghilt, that would make your grandmother my sister, which would make me..." this was worthy of a long sigh for sure. "...your great-uncle Mvua. I didn't feel that old when I started walking this morning." Mvua chuckled at the thought of his giant family, of which this young lady was just a small part.

Rai gave a laugh when he said how they were related, though she hadn't intended on being rude or anything. It had just come out when he had commented on how old he suddenly felt. "Wow, and I didn't feel that young," she chuckled lightly, "great-uncle, huh? You hardly look a day over regular uncle!" She teased lightly. Really, though, it was kind of neat to know they were related like that. She never would have been able to figure it out on her own. It helped her feel a little more connected to the pride when she had spent a long time feeling apart from it. "Looks like I won't be getting any cubs off ya, but it's nice to know I have a heck of a big family here!"

Oh no, a terrible joke was coming to Great-Uncle Mvua's head. And it was going to stay there until he said it..."Well, it at least comforts me to know I don't have to worry about going grey in my old age!" Seriously, being a great-uncle felt incredibly strange. Almost as strange as the comment that she wouldn't be getting any cubs off him. "No, I don't intend to be the great-great uncle of my own children. But you do have a family here. A rather large one, as it so happens. There were six cubs in my litter. Not all of us stayed, but enough did that I've started to assume any that black lion I've come across is somehow related to me. Most of the time it's true." This brought another laugh. This really was the most he'd laughed in a long time. "If you are looking for a mate, there are plenty of eligible gentlemen around," Mvua said, rather awkwardly. "I wouldn't tell any young lion at the border of your intentions, though. Some of them can be scoundrels."

Rai scrunched her nose at the thought of a mate, shaking her head rather quickly at the very idea of it. "A mate? Oh no! I don't want a mate," she laughed lightly, "I don't really think of myself as a 'one lion' kind of girl, and I definitely don't think I could settle down and raise a family." She frowned at the thought of it. Cubs were great and all, but they needed to be raised to take care of themselves and then set off to do what they needed to do on their own. She loved her pride, but she just didn't think everyone needed to be raised up together for so long, and with so much shelter. She tilted her head at her relative, smiling as he gave her a warning. "A scoundrel sounds pretty good to me. I take it you're more of them mate kind of guy, then? Seems pretty common in my family."

Wait, his great-niece wasn't interested in settling down, and was instead interested in...Oh dear, this was getting more awkward by the moment. Mvua listened patiently, though he didn't understand her sentiment at all. Being connected to family and having roots was a good thing. The only reason he hadn't settled yet down was that he hadn't found the right young lady. He really ought to do something about that...he already wasn't going to be able to introduce potential babies to their grandparents. What was he really waiting on? "I suppose I am old-fashioned regarding being a mate," Mvua said after some careful thought on the subject. "It is not that I have any judgment on others for feeling differently, though. The key is honesty between all parties. Without honesty, bad things happen." Mvua shook his head at the idea that it was common for the family to settle down. "Not everyone in the family tree was honest, or even interested in being a permanent mate. My father, your great-grandfather, apparently fed my mother some nonsense about being doomed to die as the last of his line just so he could have a bit of fun. Your great-grandmother could have been the settling down type, I suppose, but she didn't really get over the heartbreak." At this he snorted. "Honesty. No matter what, that is the code I feel we must live by. Well, that and trying not to be too naive. I am both thankful and confused that Mom fell for that line."

Rai frowned at the news. "Well, I think that's all the more reason not to be hunting for the one," she said thoughtfully. Still, it seemed like he had good reason to want a mate, even if she didn't agree with him. For her, wondering and worrying about who was going to stay faithful and with her forever wasn't worth the hassle. She preferred things without strings attached. Otherwise, she would just be another stick in the mud. "Well, I'll keep that in mind when I'm looking for my next litter," she chuckled lightly, "I'll make sure I don't use any lies or anything like that, okay? I can be nice, even if I don't want a mate." There was no need to trick others into it, that they could both agree on. "It was nice meeting you, but I think I should be on my way. All of a sudden, I find myself with a lot of energy. Maybe I'll go hunting for something, who knows? In any case, it was nice meeting you, and it's pretty cool to know I have so much family here. I didn't even realize it." She gave him a nod before she turned to leave.

Well, now Mvua felt the oldest he'd ever felt in his entire life. Dismissed like the advice-wielding great-uncle he was. Since when did he even need to lecture the younger generation anyway? How odd. "You just let your family know if you ever need help! We will be there for you." he said as he watched his unexpected family member wander off. Apparently she was determined to make him a great-great uncle, but was not interested in a long-term, faithful companion to help her. After seeing all the work his mom did raising the family, Mvua would never understand that view. Still, not all was bad in the world. The day was still young, and they had not parted in anger, as some who disagreed with each other could do. Even if they disagreed, family was family. If nothing else came of today, Mvua was glad he'd had a chance to meet more of his family and pass on the story of their clan to a new generation.
