Criani had found the perfect spot for sunning. She had just come off of a nice long swim in Lake Tyluafel and had found a nice, big, round, rock that the sun had baked warm. Now the sun was warming her as she dried herself off. Wings spread wide, she dozed in the warm sun blissfully unaware of anything.
That is, until she heard the chattering in the trees.
At first, Criani tried to ignore it and just grunted and shifted. But the noise came closer to her position under the trees.
Criani grunted and opened one eye and looked up into the tree tops. She saw movement there, something running in the trees, something that was making some of the autumn colored branches bounce. Perhaps it was just some noisy birds. She grunted and closed her eyes, willing whatever it was to go away as she enjoyed her near sleep state.
But no, her peace was not to be. The noise came closer until it was right above her.
The last draw was when whatever it was decide to move around up there enough to send branches and loose leaves falling down on Criani. Criani grunted, annoyed further for having not gotten in a nap.
She stood up, stretched, and shook off the branches and leaves that had fallen on her. She then looked up into the trees and saw a fekrat.
Annoyed with the little animal, she went to the tree and shook it with all her might. Since it wasn't a big tree, nor was it too small, she shook it a little bit. The chattering stopped for a moment and so she went back to her sunning rock and laid back down. She was just about to the point of falling asleep again when the chattering started up with renewed vigor.
Criani groaned in frustration and then flapped her wings so she was high enough to go onto a sort of sturdy branch. She landed, testing it’s strength, finding it was just able to hold her. She then looked around for the little nuisance and saw her prey standing and looking back at her.
Small little bugger he was to be making such noise, Criani thought, but since she had claws, teeth and magic, she thought it was about time the little nutter learned a lesson. Besides, she was a little hungry anyway.
Criani was a patient hunter. It was drilled into her by her father at a very young age. She decided that it would be prudent that the little creature make the first move. This was, after all, its own turf. What seemed like a few minutes of a stare down between them, the fekarat turned and ran the opposite way through the trees. Criani chuckled and took off after it, jumping from branch to branch.
Sometimes she had to run alongside it because the branches were not strong enough to hold her, but she kept up for a while.
Soon though the branches became thicker and Criani couldn't maneuver between the branches.
At long last, she lost sight of the animal, and so grunted in frustration as she sat on a sturdy branch. looking into the direction of where she last saw the fekarat.
She was out of breath and too hot from the chase.
She shrugged it off and took off for home. The swim in the lake there would cool her off, and besides that, she had some leftover sheron rolls from Avani.
Criani smiled thinking of the rolls with all thoughts of the fekarat gone from her mind.
