
It had been a long time since she had spent so long on dry land. She could feel her hooves drying out. It wasn't an unpleasant experience, but it was a strange one. She waited for Syri now. He had said he would bring back a surprise, and she smiled to wonder what it might be. He was so very thoughtful. He knew she did not have much experience with these lands, so went out of his way to teach her about it and the wonderful things that grew in places other than the swamps. Some plants were delicious, others were beautiful. There were songs of birds she had never heard as well. She missed the raucous call of the red-winged blackbirds, but could grow used to the cry of jays as well.
She turned her dark face to the sunlight, shutting her eyes. She missed the swamp, but there was so much warmth here. There was much that she could find ways to enjoy.
