I am seeking advice for college and late high school related stuff, just general things about private school and/or college. I am 14, a freshman in high school, and I want to prepare early. I am planning to apply for multiple scholarships for college, because my parents can't pay for college, and in my senior year of high school, I want to go to Interlochen Academy for my singing and I will probably save a lot of money for that. So, any advice for private schools (preferably concerning music) and college in the USA will be helpful.

I don't know much about private schools for musicians or drama majors, but I can tell you a bit about colleges and how to plan ahead for pretty much any major and how to save a bit of money as well.

The first step you can take is to apply for FAFSA, which is federally-funded student aid that you will never have to pay back. They could give you from $5,000 to $50,000 in financial aid per year, depending on your income, your parents' income, how many dependents your parents have in each household, etc.

The second step you can take is to first study at a local junior college for at least a year. This will allow you to knock out a few of the more basic courses in your major and is something you can do while you're finishing up high school. It will also give you an opportunity to experience the differences in the education system and campus culture. On top of that, junior colleges are typically far less expensive than regular universities.

Another step I personally would take when considering a career in music would be a double-major approach. Get one major in something you love (Music History or Drama, for example) and another in something you can fall back on that is sure to make money as well as be enjoyable (Education, Biology, Business, etc.). This is only because, in my experience, nothing is certain in life and it definitely isn't when considering a career in the liberal arts.

Good luck with your secondary education and high fives for moving forward with it!

I can't say anything more than what Eugene said, but what I can say is that the college I currently go to has a TON of music majors. It is called Bethel University. It is located in a small town in McKenzie, TN and is a private school under the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. However, you don't have to be religious to come here. If you want more information about it, here is the link. Now since it is a private school, it is a bit more expensive. However, they offer a lot of scholarships and even have different scholarshipped singing groups. Here is there website. They have a regular choir, 2 bluegrass bands, a southern gospel group, a orchestral band, a theatre department, a small group of 15 people called Vocal Authority. I am a member of their choir so if you want me to, I can talk to the main director and ask him any questions you may have.
