He had gone to the infirmary not for something that he actually cared about, but for a routine checkup that he didn't really want to get. But Chance obediently made his way to the designated place anyway, dressed in a pair of jeans and a long sleeved blue shirt that came down over his hands and looped over his thumb.
"Hey," he said, as he poked his head into the place - which smelled much too sterile for its own good - and glanced around. "Here for my checkup?"

A freckled face peeked out from the back room. "Uh, hello!" Oliver's arms were full of folders and paperwork when he scurried out, and his inquisitive expression turned to one of concern when he recognized the hunter who had just entered. "Ah, Chance! A-are you okay? You didn't get hurt, did you?" All the papers were dumped on the front desk, and replaced by a clipboard. Unlike their first meeting, when Oliver joined Chance it was with some measure of confidence. "Follow me, there's a room this way."

The freckled face was familiar. Chance arched his brows and gave Oliver a vaguely friendly smile, though it didn't quite reach his eyes.
"Hey, Oliver," he said lightly. "I'm fine, I'm just hear for a checkup is all. I was told I had to have one after getting into a few spars and whatnot, and it's been over a month, so I figured now was as good a time as any to get that done."
He gave a nod and fell into step behind the other man, glancing up and down the hallway.
"So do you work here or something?"

"Oh, that's good," Oliver chirped with a relieved smile. That was the worst part about infirmary duty, seeing people you knew with injuries and in pain, it was no wonder Noemi always jumped so fast to help him when he showed up wounded. Routine checkups were easy in comparison. He glanced over his shoulder to reply, "I get maybe a third of my shifts in here, so I guess it's um... something about versatility?" The kid pushed open the door to an unoccupied examining room. "For a regular checkup there are lots of questions and stuff, but it's pretty straight forward... Not like an annual physical or anything, those are done by intermediates or full hunters. B-but you can request one of them for the checkup if you'd like!" The boy's supervisors clearly had more faith in him than he did in himself.

"Ahhh," said Chance, making a mental note of this fact, hands tucked into the pockets of his jeans. "I'll just leave that to the Life Division, then, I assume that's the sort of thing that they do?"
Chance slipped into the room, making his way over to the chair in the middle and sat down as casually as could be, tossing one leg over the other and jiggling his leg a little as he looked up at Oliver with a small smile.
"Ask away, then," he said mildly.

"Yeah, mostly," Oliver agreed with a little smile. "There are a few Moons and Mists who have infirmary duty pretty often though, and not all Life division people take on more than what their research requires." That was one aspect Oliver had not decided on, for a kid who didn't expect a future, what need did he have to choose between the labs or the infirmary? The young trainee's eyes briefly scanned the clipboard in his hands, and slid a pen out from the clasp on top. "Okay... uh... Have you... had any general health complaints, or unexpected developments recently, like headaches, muscle pains, sore throat or runny nose, dizziness, nausea, stomach cramping, digestive disturbances, or um... other not normal symptoms?"

"As a Sun," said Chance, "I am very glad that I don't have to do infirmary duty. Something about seeing injuries kind of weirds me out."
Which was the same thing that he'd told Finn before, and he didn't really have any issues telling this to Oliver, because he was here for a checkup anyway. Chance leaned back on the chair and bobbed his leg up and down.
"Nope," he said. "Unless you count a few aches and bruises from spars, I'm good."

Oliver smiled sheepishly. "I-I was uncomfortable too, at first. There was a really big mission that went badly when I was still new to it all, nobody wanted me out on the floor because, um... they said my worried face would just scare the patients..." The kid used the pen to check off a couple things. "Um. That's next, have you been treated for any wounds with complications in the past six weeks, including injuries requiring surgical intervention, damage that is not healing, or..." Oliver paused for a second. "... Parasites residing inside the body? Has your shield broken on the island, or off the island, or might you have come into contact with any FEAR-based organisms, or Insanity-based organisms, while your shield was in a compromised state?" He looked up from the list he was reading from. "D-don't you think, um, as a Sun you would see a lot of injuries? O-or more of your own?" Clearly a break from the checklist to revisit their casual conversation.

"You do tend to show a lot of your emotions on your face," Chance pointed out casually, though he rather liked this trait of Oliver's, because it meant he was just that easy to read. At the same time, however, it meant that there wasn't much deciphering to do; there wasn't necessarily a puzzle like there was with a few of the others. "But that's not necessarily a bad thing, it just means that people will have to get used to it."
Asher thrummed in Chance's head. He sent them a mental smile, which was returned with a feeling of satisfaction from the ice demon.
"Nothing but a few scrapes and bruises," Chance answered with a little smile. "Nothing that required more than a few bandages, sometimes some antiseptic, sometimes some more bandages. But other than that, everything's been okay. No parasites, no organisms, no shield breaking, nothing. As for injuries, mostly my own. I haven't been in the field enough to see any huge injuries."

"Ah, s-sorry, I know this island isn't exactly the place for people like me who can't keep their emotions in order." It was with a self-depreciating smile that Oliver turned back to the checklist in hand. "Especially in the field, it's... um, not a place I do well in." Oliver wasn't going into detail on how he froze up during the zombie mission. "Uh... That's good, no... anything..." He made a couple more little checks on the page, and then there was an uncharacteristic long pause. The boy's cheeks began to get a little red. "Um... a-are you currently... uh... sexually active? I-if so, h-have there been any um- u-unprotected sexual encounters, o-or have you had multiple partners in the past six weeks?" One would think a Life division trainee with frequent duties in the infirmary, not to mention also friends with Finn, Oliver would have gotten used to questions like this. But the kid was pretty hopeless when it came to this topic. Even if it were just a routine checkup.

Chance leveled a look in Oliver's direction, slightly scrutinizing. "I think this place is for anyone, really, if you can make it here. You're here, aren't you? You're here, so that means you made it this far and you're still surviving, that should make all the difference."
Oliver's reddened face, however, that accompanied the next several questions made Chance's smile widen until it was almost a grin. He carefully controlled it, however, adopting the most serious expression that he could in the time it took for Oliver to look down and mark his clipboard.
"Yes," he said. "To the first one. No to the second."
The third question wasn't answered.

Good enough, moving along now! "Can you take off your shirt?" Oliver blurted out in his haste to skip the awkward questions and move onto the relative safety of a basic examination. Except then he realized exactly what he had asked, in the context of his previous questions. The young trainee went even redder in the cheeks and he opened his mouth to say something, but there were no words. He had already said more than enough words. With as much dignity as he could muster, the kid simply turned around to face the door. It would take more than a minute for him to regain his composure.

Chance raised his eyebrows.
"You know, you're not the first person to ask me that in the past few days," he said, sounding amused, and reached down to tug off his shirt, folding it carefully into his lap. Chance rested his hands on top of it and then gave Oliver - or rather, Oliver's back - a smile.
"You can turn around now."

Oliver shook his head quickly, but resolutely, and took a couple more seconds to will away the blush on his cheeks. Once he was ready, it was back to business. The boy turned around looking marginally less flustered, but he was able to produce a stethoscope from some pocket inside his jacket and continue on. "I'm going to- Oh!" The boy's eyes widened at seeing the large bandage on Chance's side. "I-I thought you said just aches and bruises, is that a cut?" All earlier embarrassment forgotten, Oliver's primary concern became whatever giant cut or abrasion was hiding behind such a large bandage. Without waiting for Chance to reply, the young trainee was turning to pull some gauze pads out of a cupboard. Medical tape was already in hand, most likely fished out of another mysterious pocket.

Chance was trying very hard not to laugh, because making Oliver flustered was just so easy. He was naive in the best sense of the word, and it clearly didn't take much to make him squirm, which was very amusing in and of itself; a stark contrast to certain other people on the island.
"No," Chance answered mildly, and smiled, shifting a little as he reached down and tugged at the bandage, peeling it partially off to reveal a half-completed tattoo beneath it. Zac's work was clearly professional, and the outline of the constellation was delicately drawn along his ribs. "Just this."
Chance pushed the bandage back down again, smoothing it out. "It hurts like a b***h, really; tattoos on the ribs aren't exactly the easiest place, but, well, what can you do."
