The aura of a Page prickling on the edge of his senses was all Kerberos needed to abandon his current pursuit - draining a civilian for energy, and the man was practically unconscious anyway, no reason to do any more. He kneed the man in the gut and let him fall, and then took off, hurrying to chase down the poor Page.

He got close enough to have a visual, and --

An Earth Page. A cute Earth Page.

"Oh, it is not your night," he said, as he slowed down, and his approach was much more curious than aggressive. Get them to let their guard down, first, and then attack.

The sensation of a Chaos aura prickling too close to him made Newgrange tense, and he slowed his own pace for long enough to glance around the area and identify his company. Or, at least, identify the direction he was coming in. Though he did a decent job of hiding it, the hair on the back of his neck had prickled. Newgrange's encounters with Chaos so far were not unpleasant, though it was the thought of Chaos itself that unnerved him so.

In the darkness of the night he was not so quick to locate whoever it was that approached, and rather than look around hopelessly he opted instead to attempt to make contact. He stood still and listened for a second before calling out, "Hello?" He did not sound afraid—reserved, certainly, but friendly. And so very curious.

Alright, so Kerberos might have shifted the way he walked, a little - more of a smooth sashay than a walk, really. The Corrupt stopped just within six feet - his magic's range if this went south swifter than he anticipated. He rested a hand on his hip, and smiled as charmingly as he could manage.

"Good evening," he said, and he didn't even try to hide that he was checking the Page out. He liked to be as blatant as possible in his flirtations - either he threw his opponent off-balance, or he got the amusing reaction of actual return banter. Either way, his evening was improved.

Even if he would have to kill him later. Probably.

Newgrange's eyes squinted just a bit, as if confused at what Kerberos was doing with his eyes. He shifted positions and crossed his arms over his chest, still looking at the male skeptically. "Evening," he replied, courteous as he could manage. "—Are you looking for something?" he finally blurted. "I'm hardly armed."

He lifted his hands to show that he was not wielding any sort of weapon (Because of course, with prying eyes like those, obviously the senshi must have just been trying to assure that he wasn't going to be attacked). He figured the quickest way to ensure that this Corrupted Senshi knew he meant no harm was to introduce himself, so arms still up he said, "My name is Newgrange, Page of Earth. I haven't met one of your kind."

Not in this day and age, at least; a shiver ran down his spine thinking of the nightmares he'd had, and while he knew it was all in his head, his arm hurt.

…But at least he still had it.

Kerberos raised his eyebrows, and then he laughed out loud. "Oh, no, I'm not worried about weapons - I've met enough Pages to know you're woefully under-armed. It's a tragedy, really." It was fun, though, dealing with someone who was initially oblivious.

"That's not what I was looking for, Newgrange. I'm Kerberos. Corrupted Super Senshi of Asphodel. And I was just...appreciating how good you look, in that uniform." He didn't want the Page to spook, not yet, so he took a few steps closer and then stood still, resting a hand on his hip.

Newgrange had never been complimented by a male in such a way. In fact, the words seemed to totally disarm him—not because it was a Corrupted Senshi, but because he hadn't any idea how to respond. It wasn't insulting; on the contrary, he seemed exceptionally flattered.

Just also exceptionally unprepared.

"Oh," he said after a few seconds of silence. As if Kerberos must be mistaken, he glanced down at his attire and then back up at the Corrupted Senshi. It looked normal to him, but then…had he ever really stopped to consider what he was wearing? Every time he caught his reflection, he was embarrassed that he was out in public wearing such a garb. But he didn't want the silence to get awkward, and hastily had added, "Thank you, I…"

…He what? Appreciated it? He did, but he was too sheepish to say anything, and he wasn't quite comfortable enough to return the compliment outright. Of course, Kerberos was not unattractive by any means, but there wasn't any way Newgrange could admit that he found another male pleasant to look at. At least, not a stranger. He wasn't comfortable enough with himself to say any more than a hasty, if not earnest, "Your outfit is very interesting. Very different from my own, but…beautiful. I mean—unless that is an insulting word, in which case, I don't mean to insult."

He was flustered.

And thinking about Kerberos being attractive.

For which he promptly reprimanded himself, because those were not thoughts he wanted to deal with tonight; he already had enough on his mind. Trying to ease away from the topic, he attempted to hastily correct any words of insult, though that only meant that more words tumbled out.

"—I do mean, of course, that your outfit is pleasant on the eyes. Well—no, not just that, but you too. It looks good. You look good."

He spoke quickly, and might have said more, but his face was already burning red. This was not going as he wanted. He bit his tongue, hard, and pressed his lips together as if he could will his words to stop. It wasn't a discrete method, but it functioned.

He couldn’t even think to replay what he had just said and furrowed his brow, raising one hand to press his palm to his forehead, as if to hide his face from Kerberos. He could not look him in the eye right now. A low grumble blossomed from his throat, but he could not bear the humiliation to speak again.

It took actual physical effort for Kerberos not to laugh as he watched the poor Squire flail over his words and struggle to return a simple compliment. As it was he caught himself grinning, and actually sort of feeling bad that his intent was, eventually, to do violence to this poor awkward (cute) man.

He took a few steps forward and reached out, with the intent of taking Newgrange's hand and pulling it away form his face. "What's the matter? Not used to a little harmless flirtation?" He teased, tone and expression entirely playful. "You've done absolutely nothing to offend me, sweetheart, I'd have to be a fool to take such adorably honest attempts at compliments as insulting. And I really can't not accept being called beautiful with almost six feet of hair and a toga."

It was more fun, at the moment, to tease than it was to fight. He'd count it as a victory if he could leave Newgrange good and flustered.

this is so much shorter than what you gave me and i am sorry but newgrange is a treasure

For a second, Newgrange looked warliy at Kerberos, trying to judge his face and determine if he was serious. It took only those few seconds for him to relax, and even if he was embarassed still, his posture changed enough to show that he was no longer on edge or fretting about it.

But Kerberos was reaching out and took his hand and...

There was a certain intimacy there that Newgrange was not used to. Maybe it was just that he hadn't held the hand of another male over the age of five since...

Well, maybe since he was five.

And he didn't know how to react.

But Chaos wasn't supposed to be so friendly, was it? It left him unassuming and confused, and those terms of endearment that he was throwing around...

Newgrange just didn't know how to respond, so he laughed hesitantly.

"No," he admitted earnestly, and made no effort to pull away from the senshi. "I'm not all that used to flirting of any sort. I don't really make much time for that sort of thing, so I admit, I'm sorely...inexperienced."

Inexperienced with a lot of things. Like how to deal with very handsome men that looked like they'd just crawled out of some fantasy movie.

He might have been ashamed of himself if he wasn't already so distracted by the senshi in front of him, but things like this didn't happen often in Newgrange's life, and he didn't want to miss out on the experience.

...No matter what experience it was going to be.

Kerberos was not eager to let go of the Squire's hand. Not just yet. If nothing else, it was a good starting point for an attack - leverage and control, or something. But really, he just liked watching the poor Page squirm. He hadn't had someone react this charmingly to his flirtations in a very, very long time.

"That's a tragedy," he said, "because you are exactly the sort of person who should be on the receiving end of quite a lot of flirting." He continued to invade Newgrange's space. "Really, it's too bad you're on the Order side, I hate even thinking of us being enemies."

Killing him would be a waste, Kerberos decided. Just rough him up a little, put a better idea of the dangers of being charmed by strangers in black in his head.

Or something.

Newgrange did not step back, perhaps because he didn't want to offend Kerberos, or perhaps just because he didn't realize he was leaving himself so vulnerable.

"If you hate it so much, you could always leave?" Newgrange offered, though didn't think the idea would have much power. He doubted anyone would want to give up everything just to continue flirting, or just to avoid being an enemy with someone they…

…liked?

Enjoyed flirting with?

What was Kerberos even talking about? --Was Newgrange even supposed to know?

He shifted positions just slightly and then laughed, wriggling his fingers just slightly before he finally decided to try and pull his hand away.

"But there's no reason to be enemies if you don't want to. It's not like I'm planning on sneaking an attack or anything," he assured, seeming a bit more comfortable talking about something other than flirting, or appearances. His ears still burned red, but with the subject change he could at least manage to look the senshi in the eyes.

…Or at least close enough that he figured it didn't matter.

Kerberos laughed. "Oh, you say that like it's so easy," he said, and he waved the suggestion away as if it were a joke. No, there was no way he would leave the Negaverse, not when he was happy and comfortable and so far getting just about everything he wanted.

Which reminded him that he did, in fact, really need to get down to business, here.

He let go of Newgrange's hand, letting out what was probably the most obviously fake disappointed sigh in the history of bad acting.

"That's too bad, really, because unfortunately for you, that's exactly what I'm planning. Sorry!" He said, and he could not have sounded less sorry if he tried. He brought his hands up to his face, whispered "Asphodel's Regret," and blew, flower petals flying towards the Page.

Quote:
Sailor Kerberos cups his hands in front of his face and says the name of his attack, then blows. Asphodel petals fly out of his hands towards one target within eight feet of him. The target begins to feel a deeper, stronger regret, as well as a feeling of clinging hopelessness, though the apparent "reason" will vary from person to person, and may be something they wouldn't normally regret at all. The effect is the same no matter the target's rank. This effect lasts for 30 seconds. Sailor Kerberos can use this twice per battle.

he has never been less sorry in his life tbh

Newgrange looked at Kerberos for just a second longer than he needed to as he processed the betrayal. He had been content to give the male the benefit of the doubt; Kerberos might have been an enemy insofar as alignment, but Newgrange hadn't seen him as such. Though, perhaps now might be the proper time to consider him such.

There was no physical attack, but Newgrange felt as though he had made a grave error—and he regretted it. Regretted playing along with this little game, regretted being flattered, regretted not putting a stop to it. How could he have been so stupid? It was disappointing.

There was a lump in his throat, a sudden weight in the pit of his stomach, and he took a hesitant step back.

"I don't understand," he blurted, and regretted that. He wasn't cut out for this, for any of this. For powering up, for thinking he had any right to talk to someone as handsome as Kerberos. It was foolish of him to do any of this, to even ry. He was just going to keep disappointing people, so what was he doing here?

A crushing hopelessness was suffocating him; it felt like a weight had fallen upon him and he could do nothing to lift it.

"Sorry," Kerberos said, and again - utterly no apology in his tone. He brought a knee up to drive into Newgrange's gut. "Consider this a lesson in why not to trust pretty strangers in black." Maybe next time, Newgrange wouldn't let someone so close, and he'd live. Because for some reason this blushing, naiive kid made Kerberos concerned.

Maybe because that had been Alex, once. A long time ago, before he'd ruined his own innocence, but once.

So let him deal with a little grief, smack him around, and let him learn so he wouldn't get dead too quickly.

Or something.

Regret still weighed heavily on Newgrange's mind; his breath was knocked from him and he hated the way black specks washed over his peripheral. He wouldn’t pass out, not from that, but it hurt in a way he hated to admit. Kerberos' words hurt in a way he hated to admit.

"Then," he coughed, "I consider my lesson learned."

But he didn't, really, and with or without the spell, he regretted the fact that he knew he'd make the same mistake again. One bag egg wasn't enough to spoil his entire way of thinking, but it was enough to spoil his night.

"—And if you're through playing teacher you should go before I decide to start sharing lessons of my own."

…It was a bluff Newgrange didn't want called, because right now the only things he could focus on were things to distract him from the pain and regret—and cupcake recipes might have been a tasteful lesson, but they weren't very practical given the circumstances.

Kerberos grinned and reached out, but this time it was definitely not to punch Newgrange. No, instead, his hand rested gently but firmly on the Page's chin.

"You're so tough, it's precious. Really, it's tragic we can't get to know each other better, I'd love to see if you were just as feisty other places." From flirtation to violence and back - his intention was always to keep his opponents on their toes, and it was especially fun with someone who seemed so very embarrassed at the idea.

So he leaned in and placed a brief kiss on the handsome Earth Page's lips, and then stepped back.

"You'll have to teach me that lesson another time," he said, and then he vanished.
