There had been one really burning question inside her since the question and answer session. Unfortunately there had been only one rider who could answer it, and that rider was rather scarce. Vos had set up surveillance on the wherbowl. Her eyes strained to pick up a dark red hide landing. Atypical riders were pretty scarce here in Benden still, but this one seemed to stop by more often. Vosin made her plans to ambush the pair and see if they'd answer her question. When she couldn't have eyes on the bowl directly, she bribed the little kids playing down there to watch for her. If they saw a red dragon they were to come and get her. When two young children tumbled into the room she was dusting, Vos looked up eagerly. "We saws a red dragon land just like you said Vos!" One of the children cried out eagerly. "Good! You'll get your treats when I get back!" She promised the kids their rewards when she got back as she hurried out. The teen raced through the halls and burst outside. Not a moment to lose! Who knew when the crimson would take off again or even be back. Vos slowly as she finally neared the dragon. She caught her breath so she could speak normally. "Excuse me is your rider about? I have a question for her if she doesn't mind." She politely told the dragon with a respectful bow. The rider wasn't in immediate sight when she'd looked around.

The spotted crimson dragon fanned her wings idly when the voice spoke up at her side. She blinked curiously at the human standing there, lowering her head to regard the girl more closely. A young female. Erinaeth giggled at her rider.
Oh Mine! There is a little female asking after you! Erinaeth paused. The, to Vosin, She is about. And she won't mind. What sort of questions do you have? Can I help? What's your name? I'm Erinaeth! Are you one of the Candidates? It was like rapid fire questions in the poor girls mind.
Eri! Leave her alone! Arlii moaned, not wanting the blasted crimson to scare the girl off. I'm coming. She added, delivering some papers and passengers before making her way back out towards the bowl. It wasn't hard to spot the two, since Eri stood out. And the girl... Arlii faintly recognized her. From the question and answer session they had done.
"Sorry about Eri. She's a talker. And a gossip hoarder." She smiled, eying the girl. "What can I do for you?"

She had not expected the reaction she got when she'd spoken to the dragon. At the best Vos thought the dragon would at least relay that someone was looking for her rider. Last thought in her head was the dragon would speak to her. She had bowed her head respectfully to the crimson as she was looked over. A huge grin crossed her face as she heard the female dragon.
"That's good to hear! Mainly about your hatching. I'd be very pleased if you put in whatever answers you felt like!" This was way better than she'd hoped! Vos was ecstatic to begin, but knew she should wait for the crimson's rider. "I'm Vosin. It's a pleasure to meet you Erinaeth. Yes I am."
If anything Vos was far from being scared off. She turned and bowed to the rider who soon joined them. "It's a pleasure to meet you rider. I'm Vosin." The teen laughed, "oh I don't mind that at all. She's more than welcome to add her answers to yours if she wants. And who doesn't love a good gossip?" Vos asked with a laugh.
"Well I wanted to ask you about your hatching. Or rather Erinaeth's hatching. I'm sure you've heard that Benden is going to help any eggs hatch that need it? Since this is the first time, I was hoping for some insider information on what to expect." Vos started to play with her braid of bright red hair as it lay on her left shoulder. She glanced toward the crimson dragon and remembered a comment Vee had mentioned. It was difficult to choke back a laugh, but the light danced in her eyes.

Oh this little human was so adorable! Erinaeth lowered herself to be more at an easy level to see Vos at. The crimson's eyes swirled bright blue as she tilted her head. Vosin. A pleasure! I would be happy to tell you what I can remember of my hatching. But perhaps I should wait for Mine. She knows more.
"Vosin. I remember you, from the question and answer session." The girl had been curious about them during that too. "I'm glad to hear this. I've always wondered if it helped candidates prepare for Impression having some sort of experience hearing a dragon in their mind." Arlii mused, leaning against the crimson head thoughtfully. "I am Arlii, by the way. And I'm sure this big lug already introduced herself." She said dryly, grinning at her dragon. Who snorted.
Of course I did! I have manners!
Giving the girl a curious look, Arlii ran a hand through her hair. "About her hatching? And aye, I've heard." She wrinkled her nose up at that but waved it off. "Expect a lot of work. There is not getting around that. It will be daunting and you may feel that your dragon is too weak. But never think that. They just need extra support." She looked at the crimson dragon. "As you can see, Eri here is as fit as any bronze dragon!" Smiling, Arlii continued. "As for her hatching... Erinaeth's egg shell was too thick. So the gold's rider cracked it open to help her out. She was very weak and had little energy. But there was spark in her. And it was hard work raising her. Atypicals have a higher risk of skin tearing as they grow. And they tend to start off behind the other dragons in lessons. But don't let that dampen your spirits. They will work twice as hard and grow to be as powerful as any dragon."
Of course we do! Those silly hypocrits. They are just lazy! Laaazy! Eri informed the two.
Arlii just shook her head, very much agreeing with this statement but not wanting to get herself in trouble while at Benden. "Crimsons are also very unique in general. Should you happen to get as lucky as I did. Y'see, crimsons have the ability to clutch, like golds do. But they also can fight thread and chew firestone. It is a choice that you and your dragon make when the time comes." She looked over at her dragon fondly. "We choose to fight. Let the golds do what they do best. We'll fight for them." Arlii murmured. "And it pissed my dad off so... " She gave an innocent enough shrug while Erinaeth snickered.

Vos was enthralled by the sweet crimson. She wished she could have a dragon like this. The teen was more than willing to wait if the dragon wanted if it meant she got her answers. She nodded to the rider. "Thank you?" She laughed. "I hope its a good remember. I don't see that it could hurt?" She could tell the dragon's thoughts were not her own, but it could get very easy to be confused.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Arlii. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me." The redhead laughed and nodded. "Aye she did. I'm very pleased to meet Erinaeth too!" Vos listened intently. Could one give up on their dragon? Obviously Arlii hadn't, but she implied that one could. Which would result in the death of the dragon and leave the rider only half whole. Not a good fate.
"I won't. I want to be a rider like my parents." Not her only reason, but it was a good reason. "She is more beautiful than any bronze." She pursed her lips to hear the dragon's shell was too thick. "That's why they can't hatch? Too hard shell and too weak?" Vos thought it would be better to hatch the atypicals first, except... how to tell which needed help? At least they had the chance when they were hatched. Vos laughed at Erinaeth's comment.
"I won't be lazy with my dragon," she promised the pair. It didn't matter what color she got. Arlii also mentioned what she'd brought up at the question session. "How did you decide what to do?" That would be the hardest choice in her life! "Can I ask who your dad was? Why was he so mad?" The whole idea was fascinating to her. Her parents were both very supportive of her and her siblings.

Arlii grinned at the teen. "Aye, no worries. It is a good remember. You were the one askin' us the most questions, right?" She hadn't minded, and really, had been more surprised. It was a nice change from the shaffing idiots that glowered at them at Benden. Well, soon they would have to get over it, as there were gonna be atyps hatched at Benden!
Of course it wouldn't! And it means you'll be less startled when Yours finds you and speaks to you for the first time. Erinaeth added.
"Not that it still ain't confusing at first!" Arlii snickered. Oh Faranth, had it been a challenge to separate her thoughts from the gossip monger of a dragon she had! "You're welcome, Vosin." It was rare for someone to seek them out specifically. So of course she wanted to give the girl some of her time.
You would make a good rider. There is spirit in you. And a kind personality.
Arlii just rolled her eyes at her dragon. It would not due for her to get Vosin's hopes up and then have the girl not Impress! And then the girl was complimenting Erinaeth and the spotted crimson just ate it right up. SIGH. "Something like that. I don't know if their shells are harder than the others, but they definitely can't crack 'em on their own."
Ah, the inevitable question. Arlii shrugged, patting the crimson snout she leaned against. "Well, R'lav was a shaffing a*****e. And I guess I was too much like him for his own good. Y'see he had this... determination for me to Impress to a gold." Arlii wrinkled her nose. She had nothing against the gold dragons. Just the passion her father had tried to press into her. "So when I didn't Impress a gold, he was a little bit angry. But to him, a crimson that could breed was better then nothin'." Her grin turned a little malicious. "So when we decided to be fighters... I'm sure you can imagine his reaction!"
My gold sisters have so much riding on them already. Erinaeth added. We simply wanted to do what they could not. We would fight in their stead.
"That too. We talked about it for a good long while before making our decision. Though it seemed we were in agreement from the get go." magnadearel lmfao! omg congrats and Eri totally wants to meet Killakeeth!!

Kyrieko Lol thank you! <3 We must have rp. Will they be at the feast or do you want to do an rp after the feast? She blushed a moment, but nodded with a grin. "Yeah. I wasn't the only one, but I did ask my share of questions." It was something she hadn't wanted to waste. Even if it meant she might have stepped on a few sensitive toes. Vos thought it was better to be up front about a situation rather than ignorant. Ignorant or clueless could get you hurt around here.
"That's true too!" After speaking directly to several dragons, she was confident she could handle it when her own dragon spoke to her. Vos was sure everything would be fine when that special moment happened for her. "It's something to get use to I suppose, but I really look forward to it." The teen blushed a bit harder at Erinaeth's compliments. "Thank you. I hope my dragon thinks so too." It had made her want to stand taller. She was proud of who she was. Vos tried to only straighten up a little bit, without pushing out her chest. She didn't want the pair to think badly of her now.
She nodded. Some things were just so unclear concerning the dragons, but that's how it was. They knew the atypicals couldn't hatch on their own; they didn't know the why of it though. Was it they were too weak? Their shells too hard and thick? Or maybe even a combination? Whatever the case, they would free any babies that needed help.
Vosin listened avidly to the crimsonrider's history. She'd met all types of people at the weyr, but she'd never really thought about them as parents when her own were so nice. That was... interesting. How could she say she was sorry for Arlii's father being an a*****e without sounding stupid? "Maybe he wanted the best for you? Parents are like that right?" Or maybe her father had other motives? She laughed a bit as she imagine the man's reaction to learning they'd be a fighting crimson. "That must of made him really mad, but it was your choice not his." Arlii was much like Vos' opposite. Where she wanted to be different from her father, Vos desired to be like her parents.
"It must not be easy for her in the wherholds." Since there was only one gold here now. After the hatching there would be two, plus the breeding crimsons in Malvren. Vos thought about the other weyrs where they had several golds each. She really wanted to fight thread too. Presumably the riders of golds did too as they formed a queen's wing to get what the higher wings missed. Except the golds couldn't chew firestone like the others, and their riders had to use flamethrowers. They still fought thread, but it wasn't the same as sitting on a flaming dragon.
"I'm sure they appreciate your thoughts Erinaeth. What do you think would have happened if you both wanted something different?" That was a fear of hers.

Arlii just grinned. "Can't get answers if ya don't ask questions!" She had been like Vos when younger. Full of questions in her lessons. She'd been fascinated to learn about dragons. And whers. Faranth, if she had bonded to a wher instead of a dragon?! Woah boy would her father have had a fit!
But you were not right for a wher. Unless you wish that I were one? Erinaeth snickered at her rider's thoughts.
"It's... a very intimate experience." The crimsonrider said with a glance to her dragon. "They fill a void in you that you don't even know existed. It's the most wonderful feeling in the world. Not quite the same as when another's dragon bespeaks you, though. Just wait. When it happens, you'll understand exactly what I mean." And she hoped this candidate did find her partner out there. As Eri had said, she would make a good rider. And she didn't seem afraid to fight for her beliefs.
A snort was Arlii's response to what her father may have thought. "If only that had been it!" She just shook her head, crossing her arms. So the urge to hit something didn't rise up. Thoughts of R'lav tended to do that. "He just thought about his own gain. And the bragging rights he'd have for his daughter being a goldrider. Not to mention having an 'in' with one." Arlii sighed. "Every parent is different. I just got the short end of the stick apparently."
We'll just prove him wrong, my heart. And gain amusement from the faces he makes. They are so funny! Erinaeth giggled at both women.
A thoughtful look crossed her features as she thought about the only gold pair the wherhold had. "I think she is a strong woman, to be honest. Being able to shuck old traditions aside and stand tall for change? That is the type of gold Eri and I could fight for." Keller, on the other hand, was a shaffing crawler. She just kept that thought less vocal. "As for what would have happened... well. Life can be a b***h some of the time, so we'd just have had to butt heads and dealt with it!" She laughed, reaching out to give the girl a pat on the shoulder. "Don't worry, Vosin. Things work out they way they do for a reason. Whatever happens, just know it's what you were meant to do." magnadearel I haven't decided yet, but I'm thinking they probably will have had enough of Benden and need a few days break xD

Kyrieko Well if they are ever in Benden again they should look her up. ^_^ My brain kinda died it seems. We can wrap up unless you can think of something else for them? "That's what I thought!" It was good to know the crimsonrider felt the same way she had. What was the use if they were to only ask the typical weyr questions? Besides, this was a wherhold now. They should be willing to put up with difficult questions. Vos nodded with understanding as best she could. The dragons she'd spoken too had felt more like a friend. Like her siblings, but separate and talking in her head.
Vos scratched her head. "Well your a bit too old for my parents to adopt, but I'll be your friend." It was the best she could offer. She laughed along with Erinaeth. "I'd enjoy seeing funny faces too!" It was true. Anali had left everything she'd known to support the wherholds. There couldn't be anything harder than leaving home to stand up for something going totally against what you've been taught your whole life. She was bringing up a whole new generation to this way of thinking. Vosin included. She hoped the goldrider had someone she could lean on like Vos had Ves.
"I'm sure you'll win each time!" Vos gave Arlii a grin as she felt the hand on her shoulder. "I will. Thank you both for taking the time to talk to me." More than anything now she wanted to be a dragonrider.
