As usual, Taranis felt bored as of late. Or was it restless? Both felt the same to him. He still was unable to find what it was he was looking for, a distant memory he was afraid he was beginning to forget. It wasn't a very long one. Someone met as he journeyed with his father to the Shadow herd, where he now still lived. Would live forever, he was sure. Unless something extremely interesting happened, he had no desire to leave. Not even in pursuit of what it was he searched for. It wasn't that he was happy here. Nor was he unhappy. It was simply the only life he had known, doing as his father said and training to become stronger. He didn't even wish to advance his rank in the herd. Didn't want the extra responsibilities that would come with it. He was content doing as his father asked and otherwise being left alone. The rest of the herd could do as they please. Could kill themselves out with all their squabbling. It didn't matter to him. He didn't think about the future.

The past, however, was another story. The past was on his mind often. The stallion couldn't resist the urge to wander in search of it. There were strange memories in the back of his mind, some further back than most as if he were afraid to bring them to light. Perhaps he was. He didn't know anything about his mother and since she was the one who bore him, he must have some sort of memories of her and the place he was born. Perhaps they were the memories he had hidden.

Then there was another. A happier one that he didn't mind thinking about, but was becoming more blurry with age. This one was the one he was in search for, certain the cause of it was nearby. His mother was probably far away. No point in thinking about it anymore. Mothers usually raised their children. She must not have wanted him, thus there was no point in wasting time thinking about it.

On the outskirts of the herd's territory, Taranis stepped over the invisible line for another day of mindlessly wandering until his father needed him, again.

Memories were not something foreign to Miyako, either. When she wasn't obsessing over the voice in her head, her mind was distracting her with images of her birthplace. The place she spent most of her current young life. Hiding in shadowy corners, fighting with her sister. That last one brought a smile to her lips. She had made sure to go out memorably when she left the shrine, fully intending to never look back. The experience had also taught her the joy of using her tail as a whip, something few Stars seemed to have the luxury of. She was the only one she knew with one. Had she not figured it out on her own, no one would have taught her and she'd be down one weapon to fight her alcor sister and anyone else who crossed her path.

Speaking of crossing paths.

As most lands before, this one was unfamiliar. But something very important about the Star in her path was not.

Walking slowly, like she had all the time in the world and wasn't too concerned, Miyako approached the smaller stallion, enjoying now more than ever her Solara roots. To be taller and more intimidating to everything she met was amazing. Especially when it was a stallion. A small grin split one side of her face as she watched him watching her approach, noticing the slight nervous twitch to his body.

"Well, are you not a pretty one," she said as she stopped a good ten feet away. His eyes, red like her own, were of a single color as her own. His markings were new, not something she knew to be a part of either family's. She'd seen enough of her mother's family to know of possible throwbacks from previous generations. Oh which there seemed to either be none or they all had similar solid colors. "Those are strange accessories for an equine. Are they native to this area?"

Taranis stood very still while the other Star approached him. Or he tried his best to remain very still. Though he would do whatever his father required of him, he wasn't much of a fighter, preferring to avoid it at all costs. And though he was no stranger to Solara and how large they were, this one was very intimidating in her appearance. It was like she'd just returned from some terrible battlefield.

Without meaning to, his eyes flicked behind her, as if he expected to see a field full of dead, their blood mingling and seeping into the ground. Of course there was nothing there. That unsettled him even the more, for there could still be something terrible she was casually walking away from, hidden behind the woods and the hills.

Or those could just be markings and he was getting ahead of himself. Of course. That was more plausible. Who in their right minds just strolled without a care, completely covered in cuts and bleeding from the eyes and mouth?

Wait, those were familiar. Just like the tiny bit of holly that hung on her chest was similar to the one he had tucked away behind an arm-band.

"S-some of them," he answered, wincing at the slight tremor in his voice. Be confident. Be strong. Don't let them see your fear, if you couldn't control it. He needed to be stronger. But he couldn't help it. She was so creepy. Up closer, it was as if the black parts of her coloring was slowly spreading to the white fur. Like corruption.
