The cave was lit with fire; torches lining the walls giving it a soft glow. The gold that littered the floors of the caves helped to show where someone was. And it was rare for anyone other than the highest ranked in the Flight to make it to the gold filled cave. Mountains of gold were squished into the large room, and if he wanted, Smaug would add more. But for now, this was what he needed. This was enough. For now. The glow from the torches reflecting off the gold could make such a location peaceful. It could make it to where nothing in the world was wrong. That was, if it wasn't for the fact that there was a rather irate dragon pacing through the piles. His tail lashed behind him, scattering gold around the floor and piles. It made small noises. And though the noises weren't nearly as angry as the dragons snarls, anyone who passed the cave entrance would know to avoid the location at all costs. Because scattering gold meant an angry alpha dragon.
The reason for the dragon's anger? Well that was simple. Not long ago, he had mated with a foreign creature to him. Thinking it a feather dragon, Smaug had no complaint. She was strong, and easy to manipulate. As soon as his children were born, Smaug stole them, and went back to his home in the mountains, hording them among his gold. Only Indra and Helka knew of his soon to be children. But as the moons passed, he grew more and more impatient. He snarled and growled, felt as though something was wrong. One week after another after another and he just began to feel as though something was wrong. He sent scouts out to find out what that creature was that he bred with. A phoenix, it was learned. And with that, he cursed and spewed fire at the informant. Months had passed, and he still watched his children sleeping in their baskets. It was almost as if they were dead in there. And for a while, he thought that the mix between Dragon blood and Phoenix blood was too much, and they were dead. Pinning his ears for a moment, Smaug paused in front of the three wicker baskets that Vesta had put his children within. He bared his fangs, snorting, and looking around for a moment.
Dropping his head, Smaug nosed at the baskets, his wings shifting to press the back of the wing hands against the wicker in an attempt to try and hear some noise they made. He moved from one to another, before turning his eyes back toward his gold. He had sent Indra for a swim, and expected him back soon. Standing himself up straight again, he paced once more, wings folding tight against his back as his claws knocked back gold and gems.
