The request arrived on quality card stock, handwritten in impeccable script. Quote: Sasha, I have a mission I feel will challenge you in the manner you most appreciate. Do bring your guard dog along.

Sasha got the message and immediately sent Evan a text. Quote: Meet me in front of H's office. Twenty minutes. She dressed quickly, a black sheath dress and tall, deadly looking heels. Her hair was loose (in hopes of pleasing the doctor), and fifteen minutes later she stood in the hallway outside of the doctor's office.

Evan knew better than to be late; he didn't want to risk Sasha's anger--or worse, her disappointment--not with things going so well between them. He arrived two minutes after she did, his rushed approach slowing as he caught sight of her. An eyebrow quirked upwards as he gave her a thorough once-over and a pleased smile. "You look amazing," he said, bending to give her a quick kiss. She always did, of course, but she was especially so in that skin-tight dress. "What's the occasion?" Sasha hadn't mentioned anything special in her text, and he would have worried that he was horribly underdressed in his soft cotton t-shirt and cargos, but it wouldn't have done him any good; he didn't own much in the way of clothing that wasn't functional.

Sasha gave Evan a very pleased smile after he kissed her, though it vanished shortly after. She tugged him down to straighten his hair, dusted off his shoulders and smoothed down the front of his shirt (none of which needed the attention) before kneeling down to perfectly arrange the laces of his boots just so. When she straightened Sasha placed the palms of her hands on his chest and gave him a very pointed look before whispering, " Behave." It was much the same tone that someone might tell a dog to sit or stay. She turned and opened the door without knocking, hair swirling behind her as she walked into the doctor's office. Sasha moved with a predatory grace, a hungry tilt to her lips as she stood in the middle of the office, eyes immediately on the Doctor.

Leaning again the front of his desk, the doctor took Sasha in with a discerning eye that took her in with great satisfaction. "You look lovely, my dear. And your companion appears useful." The latter was said with as much, or possibly more approval than the former. He held out a dossier to her, and tilted his head, just so, in unspoken expectation.

Sasha took the folder from the doctor with a purred, "Thank you, sir, on both counts," before she turned back towards Evan in order to give his chest a delighted little pat pat. "The manner I most appreciate, Doctor?" She leafed through the dossier with interest bright in her eyes, circling around Evan before taking a seat in the Doctor's chair. "How divine," she continued, still flipping through the pages as she leaned back in the chair. "I do enjoy a challenge, sir."

"What--" Evan started as Sasha pulled him down, half reaching for her but too bemused to know where to put his hands. He frowned down at her as she dropped to her knees to fix his boot laces, of all things. He would have appreciated the view he had down her dress more if he'd had any idea at all what she was doing. Evan nodded mutely as Sasha told him to behave, watching as she slunk her way into the office, becoming in an instant a completely different person--one he was more used to seeing with both of their clothes off. He followed her mutely, hesitantly into the office and stopped behind her and to her side. He nodded in acknowledgment of the doctor's--praise?--but his eyes were firmly on Sasha. It looked like she knew what they were doing here. It would have been nice if she had told him. "Are we being sent out, sir?" Evan asked cautiously.

At the sheer insolence of her taking his chair, the doctor couldn't help but smile fondly at the girl. "You are indeed. An potential artifact along with a relevant manuscript were supposed to have been auctioned off last night. Unfortunately they were stolen before the bidding could begin. Most inconvenient, you understand. The suspected location of the thieves has been noted along with te resources you'll have at your disposal." Directing his attention back to Evan once more, he went on, "This would normally be considered Death business, but I'd much rather simply take care of it in house, and pass the artifact along to Cael should it prove bland enough to match his intellect. What are your intentions concerning Sasha?" pinchmonster I will let you pick location ~ !

"We're going to Los Angeles," Sasha murmured softly before realizing the question that the doctor had asked Evan. She paled, just a little, and rose to her feet. "He's my friend," Sasha blurted without thinking, moving back around the desk to stand before the doctor, her expression and voice far more composed than it had been moments before. "He intends to teach me how to cook," she continued, "and he makes a rather impressive chocolate fondue sauce." Sasha very lightly pressed her hand against the doctor's chest. There was a tension around her eyes, a darkness in them as she very imperceptibly pressed her nails into the fine fabric of the Life Lead's shirt. "And, of course, I'm certain he intends to offer his protection and his Sun capabilities on this." She turned to face Evan, her back now to the doctor. Sasha lifted her brows towards him as if to say ' now, isn't that right?' as she handed the dossier off to him.

Suddenly Evan's presence there began to make a little more sense. This wouldn't be the first time he'd been dragged along on a Life mission to do the heavy lifting. He only hoped that whatever they were being sent out to recover wouldn't involve land mines and poison darts. Though perhaps those would be preferable to trying to answer H's question. His attention switched abruptly to the doctor, though thankfully was saved from having to try and answer by Sasha's timely intervention. He felt it best to let her answer for him for all their sakes, but mostly his. "Yeah," he said slowly, tentatively agreeing to everything she said as he looked between Sasha and the Life lead. He was grateful for the distraction of the file Sasha handed him. He flipped through it as he asked, "Do we have a time frame for this?" It was better than asking if they could leave now.

Lifting a hand to cup he cheek, the doctor smiled down at Sasha. "Then we must all have dinner together, so I can judge for myself." Letting go, he turned to Evan and his smile widened, teeth just barely showing, "You two will have a week." pinchmonster The thieves are staying in a hotel, the quality of which is up to you. Their room number is listed and they are not believed to be armed, but caution is urged. How Sasha and Evan approach the situation will be up to Sasha. Quote me when you're ready for gm prompts!

Sasha murmured a soft, "Of course, doctor," which was absolutely a lie because she had no intention of ever letting Evan and the doctor come together in any sort of casual situation. She took the dossier, took her Sun, and vacated the room, closing the door behind her. She briefly turned to glance over her shoulder at Evan. "I do hope this isn't going to be any sort of inconvenience. I apologize for not giving you a heads-up in regards to the meeting we've just attended - I understand if you have ... other plans that might need to be rescheduled so that you can assist me on this, and I, ah," Sasha paused a safe distance away from H's office. "I also understand if you need to decline this mission, Evan. I can find someone else to help me if you cannot assist me." Something about her face - her lips, her eyes, a wrinkle between her brows - looked off. Strained. Almost as though she half-expected him to tell her that he couldn't come along. Sasha waited, brows arched, for Evan's response.

Evan was happy to let Sasha take him wherever she wanted to go, as long as it was away from the Life lead. He didn't know what it was about the doctor--he had seemed pleasant, almost cheerful, but there was something about the way Sasha had acted and reacted to him that set Evan's nerves on edge. "It's okay," Evan assured Sasha, "I didn't have anything else planned. This is a mission, too, just like any other." Though a week in LA with Sasha sounded more like a vacation. No, no, business first, always. "I'd be happy to help you, Sasha. Anytime. I'm flattered that you thought to ask me," he admitted with a grin, reaching out to stroke her hair, her cheek--the one H hadn't touched--trying to reassure with contact.

The tenseness seemed to leave her, and everything else she seemed to surround herself with did too -- the boldness, the insolent way she acted towards the Doctor, the way she carried herself with shoulders up and back and chin high and hips swaying with each step -- it was as though she wore her sex appeal as some sort of guise. Just for a moment, she turned her cheek into his palm, just for a moment, just to let herself remember that he was here and she was safe and not alone and that maybe just maybe she wouldn't be alone again (an unfortunate train of men who had left her in one way or another). It was silly, and probably a stupid thing to think about just then and there, but it was also reassuring to hope that maybe this time wouldn't be like the rest of the times. If she was kidding herself, that was okay too, so long as she was allowed to pretend, at least for a while, that she could be happy. Sasha turned to press a kiss into Evan's palm before she straightened, all efficiency and deadly precision. She took a step away from him, business now, and continued walking back towards the dorms. "Twenty minutes at the portal, then. Pack enough for a week gone. Bring whatever runics you have. Something nice to wear, as from the looks of the dossier we're going to be staying someplace a little upper class. If you have nothing, we'll have to spend a little time beforehand prepping you for the mission."

It was fascinating, watching Sasha shift into a completely different woman. Her demeanor peeled away, letting him see a glimpse of the vulnerability within. This, he decided, was better than the Sasha she had been a few moments ago. This Sasha seemed maybe not as confident as the Sasha that had entered and exited the doctor's office with such swagger, but she felt more honest. He smiled faintly as she kissed his hand and wrapped her armor around herself once more. This Sasha--calm, collected, and commanding--she was nice, too. He had followed her before and was happy for the opportunity to do so again. "Yes, Ma'am," Evan replied automatically, allowing himself a moment to simply admire Sasha as she walked off. He blinked as he parsed her actual words, rather than just the tone they were delivered in. Something nice. He was sure he had a nice shirt somewhere, and black cargo pants went with everything, right? He was at the portal 20 minutes later with a single bag to hold everything he felt he'd need for the mission. His runics--a torch and barrier daggers--took up just as much room as a week's worth of clothes. He hadn't changed, though the cuffs of his pants were untucked from his boots--less obvious paramilitary, more comfortable slouch.
