Firebrand had been traveling all night into the a.m., assuring a clean getaway. The reward in his satchel, could be heard moving around from inside it's treasure box, in protest at all the bobbing around. He was less than delicate, and his fast pace had made for an unpleasant trip for the little mini. Mothers across the land would be infuriated at the way he was handling the babe, who needed time to grow in his temporary home.
Slipping out of the woods, he made his way to a nearby cave he had frequented in the past, when hiding out. Eyes of blue took in the surroundings, making sure it was empty, and nobody was around to see him.
Upon entering the cave, he carelessly slung the bag from over his shoulders. Near tossing it to the ground, he caught himself, and set it down easy. It was no normal collection of spoils. Whatever. He was starving! That, and his wings ached from carrying the bag for so long over top them.
With a few flaps to stretch them out, he headed to the back of the small cave. There, a rock was found with a scuff mark. Just as he had left it. Pushing the rock over with his face and a good shove, it rolled to the side, unearthing a left behind package. Firebrand was happy to see the flat leather flap. He grabbed it with his teeth, and began to salivate, feeling the bulk of what was inside in his mouth. He laid down on the ground, set it before him, then began to open the leather bindings. They weren't bound tight, only folded over to keep the elements out. Inside, lay strips of salted dried meat, laying on grains of uncooked rice. The rice served only the purpose of absorbing any moisture that made it's way in through the leather. Luckily, this cave didn't seem to of flooded in his absence. The grains were still dry, and the meat unspoiled.
Firebrand scooped up a piece of the meat, and shook it violently, to loosen any rice that still clung to it. His tail flickered behind him wildly, as he chomped on the meet with enjoyment. Something about salted meat gave him pleasure. It could be because this too, was something he had stolen from someone else. Much better than the apples he had eaten yesterday. Being a kalona crossbreed had it's perks. He could stomach just about anything. Berries, meats, grass, you name it.
As he was eating, he looked over to the bag with the lump, and paused. Eating and tail wagging stopped. Adjusting his legs, and looking away, he returned to his chewing, scooping up another strip of meat. Just as if he was looking away from the responsibility of what was in the bag.
After he had finished, he was still hungry. The amount of energy he had expended this night, was not going to be replenished by a few pieces of moist jerky. The leftover hunger must not of been too great, because he decided to sleep rather than go hunt for food. Rising back to his feet, his shifted his wings, and locked his knees. Clearing his mind to sleep was something else he was skilled in. He could sleep anywhere, anytime he wanted. However, he always slept standing. Sleeping on the ground didn't feel safe for him.
Closing his eyes, and popping his neck, he thought of nothing, and drifted to sleep.

Firebrand slept long enough for the sun to wake him, as it reached it's rays into his dark cave. Opening his eyes, he groaned and lifted his shoulders. He shifted his legs with a few steps, moving the sleep out of them. Before he could finish his waking stretch, he remembered the haul from yesterdays adventures. Feathers twitched in his left wing, as he flopped a gaze towards the bag, still right where he left it.
A look of one part concern, and one part confusion was on his face. The basket had been quiet all night. Were those things normally quiet? He shuffled over to the bag, and wiggled his nose into the opening, snorting as sand tickled his whiskers. The mini in the basket jolted at the sound of the snort, and Firebrand jumped! The bag opening flipped up over the edge of the basket, and he sighed, giving it a now stern look. He felt annoyed for being startled by something so small. Rolling his eyes, he closed the bag back over it.
NOW what? He hadn't thought this far. His eyes widen, at the realization that the thing inside the basket, could come OUT of the basket. The thrill of the steal, could become more than he bargained for! Nope. This would not do. Clinching the neck of the bag in his mouth once again, he slung it back over his shoulder. Moving through the clearing, in broad daylight, wasn't desirable. Having a small dog begging him for food and care, was less desirable though. Fire took his chances.
Not even looking to see if anyone was around, he made off quickly. Where would he go? Where could he take it? Could he sell it? Trade it? Bartering sometimes took time. Time didn't seem like a luxury he could afford though! Firebrand continued to pluck through different scenarios on what to do with the basket. All of which didn't seem like solid ideas. He refused to give in to the thought that it would of been better off right where he found it. Stubborn to the core. Nobody was as strong a mother as his own, and he had no regrets for taking it from that mare at the beach.
The thought of his mother caused his lips to turn up in a crooked smile. Perhaps the fate of this basket could be decided by Shinoma. What would his father think, bringing a runt like this to her? He mulled the idea over a few times, and decided she could at least make a light snack of it, if she didn't want to keep the thing. He groaned. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea..
Leaving the basket somewhere was also an idea. This seemed like his least favorite idea. He had gone through the trouble of stealing it, and refused to relinquish it to just anyone. He would rather take his chances, and bring it to his mom. With that, he began the trek towards the location where he last saw Shinoma. If she wasn't there, he hoped he cold find her before you know...the basket hatched. This fueled his motive. He was on his way!
