Skan had spent many moons residing within the Wolf Clan. Once he had found out that their alu'nadi had vanished, he was faced with the toughest situation he had to handle as wanidatsi so far. He had to leave his family for an extended amount of time to personally inspect and rebuild the Wolf clan. The Waya family had been doing their best to keep things going, and for that he was...slightly aprpeciative. He grumped a lot, scowling when he began his training of little Ukahada Waya. The nvwati-in-training had a lot to learn, and Skan was going to teach him everything he needed to know. Tawa'di would appear now and then, giving insight on what he remembered when he was nvwati, careful to defer all decisions to Skan.

On top of that, he had to train Tsine'rehsa her responsibilities of alu'nadi, but at least a lot of that training was assisted with Tsi'hilu's offspring.

Finally, he decided that the little nvwati was ready to stand on his own. Skan could return to his own family, and pray to the clouds above that none of his children got married while he was gone.

Though it had been a relief to finally let the Wolf Clan's secret out, it had been intimidating to train with the wanidatsi. He never really seemed to smile, and while he obviously knew a lot, it made the training seem to drag on that much more. The whole time, Ukahada was wishing for it to end, for the wanidatsi to go home and let them take it easy.. but as the time approached, he found himself less and less sure about the whole thing. He didn't know how to do this on his own, he had Tsine of course but together they were an unusual pair to be leading a clan. They were both so young and neither had been trained completely by a member of their own clan.. they would just have to make it work.

He walked along quietly with the wanidatsi as they slowly concluded one last walk around the last camp the Wolf Clan would share with the wanidatsi. With the help of the birds now employed throughout the pride, they had arranged for the Bird and Wolf Clans to settle in two camps rather close together.

As they walked, Ukahada mostly looked at the ground before him, practicing a thank you in his head-- and knowing it probably wouldn't help him.

Skan always enjoyed silent walks, as he felt like there was a better understanding between himself and the land that they called home. He was certain that the younger male didn't understand it...maybe one day he would.

"It seems like you have a handle on things," he replied, both of them knowing that he'd already come to this conclusion. It was nice to repeat it. "You're stumble a bit, but don't forget that the clan is family. They should understand. If they don't, well...you have quite a lot of blood family to back you up."

The Waya clan will probably forever be the biggest family within all of Ela'wadiyi. It was startling how, well, proficient Tsi'hilu and her mate had been in strengthening the Wolf.

"Thank you," Ukahada answered automatically, his thoughts stumbling out of his mouth before he could really take in what Skan was telling him. Already annoyed with himself, this wasn't really helping.

"I mean, thank you for everything," he corrected himself, straightening up a bit so he wasn't just staring at the ground, "I'm sorry that you had to leave your family for so long to deal with the troubles of mine. You won't have to worry about us again."

He and Tsine would make sure of that.

"The Wolf was always a strong and proud clan. Even with the stumble, I know you and your sister will do well." He had always seen the Wolf as strong, with Bird and Mantis close behind.

"Just...try to be nice to Galiha, I promise she's not a spy. Not completely," he laughed. "They're a means of communication." He wanted to say 'nothing more' but he knew better. His mother would pound him for even thinking it, she loved 'her' birds so much.

"I'll swing by again before the next festival, but otherwise you are on your own. I think you're ready, but do you?"

Ukahada was almost smiling-- until Skan mentioned Galiha. It had been a long time since Skan had joined their clan to fix the mess they were in, and the whole time he had stubbornly been refusing to be nice to the little bird that had tattled on them. He tolerated her, and that had been enough for now.. the birds were supposed to be for the alu'nadis anyway so maybe he wouldn't have to deal with her.

"I'll try," he muttered, though not entirely convinced by the wanidatsi's assertion that the birds were not spies.

He slowed down a bit when Skan asked if he thought he was ready.

"Yes."

It was the only right answer, he wasn't sure he really believed it but there were no other options. He would have to work through his doubts, ready or not they were done training and they had to just do it.

Heh. Skan didn't think anyone would believe that the birds weren't spies, but as long as they were taken care of he didn't mind. They were there for communication, and if they had to tattle on their clans, well...at least he'd find out sooner rather than later.

Skan nodded, a slight smile escaping his face. Just slight! He was content with Ukahada's words, even if he didn't say them with the most conviction. He'd be ready, just like how Skan was. Barely ready for the life ahead of him.

"If you do need something, just ask Galiha to get Tawa'di. He can handle the nvwati issues better than me." In fact, he should have been the lead trainer, but Tawa'di kept to his own schedule now-a-days, and Skan didn't want to get in between whatever it was his reborn father was up to.

He nodded, though reluctantly. Relying on Galiha to get help would make him that much more reluctant to get it, but then they'd know the Wolf Clan was in serious trouble if she did show up. Unless she got tired of the whole bunch of them and left on her own.. but he didn't think that would be the case. When not dealing with the unhappy leaders, she seemed perfectly content around the clan, helping however she could with their new trade. The feathers that Yinehi had given him had proven quite useful, plenty of them would be worn around the pride by the time the next festival happened. She'd probably like that.

"Hopefully it won't come to that again," he said, smiling sheepishly.

"I'm sure you'll be fine," he said with a harrumph. "Well, until next time, nvwati." He nodded to the while lion, reminiscent of the stories of the cloud children. It was nothing more than silly tales now, as the overwhelming influx of rogue blood and clouded who really was a cloud child or not. Still, he figured it was a good omen that the Wolf's nvwati was white.

He turned to leave, knowing that the Bird clan wasn't far from here. Another good reason for the birds, and one he was thankful for.

"Good luck," he said as his voice trailed off, happy to be returning to his home with his wife and troublesome children.

"Thank you," Ukahada said, "Goodbye!"

He stopped when Skan said his goodbye and departed, finally, for his home. And then he just stood there quietly, watching the pale yellow lion disappear. They were really on their own now, and it was slowly sinking in. Before the wanidatsi was out of sight, Ukahada forced himself to turn away and back towards his own clan. It was just them now.

Hopefully they would all be OK.

Fin!
