Naita loved to sun herself on the beach – it was one of her favorite past times. The warmth on her scales, the feel of the sand, and the sound of the surf and seabirds: it was paradise to her. She rumbled happily, opening her eyes briefly to check on Cid.
Cid did not like the beach. It was clear that the sand got into his trotters and his wool, and that he disliked it intensely. Tough for him – he would just have to deal with it. If that meant climbing on top of her, so be it – Naita didn't mind.
So it was that a large firani khehora with a fluffy pet leklan on her back came to be on the Eowynian coast, glittering blue and red in the sunlight. Although the beach she had chosen was abandoned, it would not be so for long...

“You know Muriel, it’s quite nice that you’re this big now. You’re the perfect companion to carry things around.” Esmeralda said with a soft laughter as she patted Muriels back. “Don’t you dare get any ideas; I’m only doing this because a picnic is a brilliant idea especially by the ocean. Plus, you’re quite light and the picnic basket is also light.” Muriel mused as she walked on the path, soon they’d be arriving at the beach and have a nice picnic together to just relax the day away. They hadn’t had such an outing in so long; it was nice that they could spend some time together.
“We’re here.” Muriel said and Esmeralda slide down her back taking the picnic basket with her. “Looks like we’re not alone either.” Esmeralda glanced in the direction and spotted another Khehora and some sort of creature with it. “Should we approach them, ask the Khehora if she’d like some food?” Esmeralda shrugged and followed after Muriel towards the Khehora. “Greetings, would you like to share some food with us? We’ve brought a picnic.” Muriel was in a rather good mood lately, Esmeralda wondered why.

Naita was very warm and even the smell of food failed to rouse her... and then she smelled the picnic basket. Food and food... that was an interesting combination. She raised her head from the sand to squint at the Magescian (the first food, haha) and the basket (more food). What was the magescian doing with a basket of food? And a cloth? Bemused, she watched them, too lazy and comfortable to bother until a khehora walked up to her. That was enough to get her to rouse properly, Cid protesting the movement with a thump of his feet. “Hello there.” she said, sniffing the khehora. The khehora was a peisio! Another step out of laziness. Oh! A bonded! Well, that was interesting, and Naita wasn't about to smack a gift hastar in the mouth, especially when it came bearing peisio magic, conversation and food. She got to her feet, Cid protesting further with unhappy bleats as he struggled to keep balanced on his resting spot. “Don't mind if I do, matey.” said the Firani, yawning widely and stretching, “And I won't even eat yer magescian there.” She was serious, though her tone was jovial as she trotted over to meet Esmeralda. She had eaten magescians before.... they weren't half bad. But this one was offering food and had a bonded. She looked at Esme, grinning. “Hey there. I'm Naita, and this here is my matey, Cid.”

“Eat my Magescian? That is the most bizarre thing I have ever heard.” Did Khehora really eat Mageascian? Muriel could not picture herself taking a chunk out of Esmeralda and the thought of biting Minerva just sent bad vibes down her spine. And what was with her accent? She’d never heard one like that before; compared to her formal speech it would be… Quite the interesting conversation. Muriel glanced at Esmeralda before settling herself down in the warm sand. She shifted a bit to get comfortable and tucked all her limbs under her waiting on Esme to get things ready and open the basket for some food. “It’s nice to meet you Naita, I am Muriel.”
“I’m Esmeralda, it’s nice to meet you.” She offered the Khehora a smile despite wondering if she was truly joking about eating her. Muriel would certainly not allow it, but she also didn’t want a fight to break out between the two. Setting the basket down, Esmeralda spread the cloth near Muriel and then sat down herself. “I’ve got a lot of meat on hand,” she handed Muriel a Vlidean leg. “I’ve got Vlidean, Hastar, and some Argaroo. What might you fancy?” she’d brought some fruits and vegetables for herself.

“It ain't absurd at all.” said Naita, shrugging, “But whatever, matey, I won't be doing it.” she sniffed the basket, “'sides, meat be meat, and you've got some great, fresh, already dead n' gone meat, here...” she grinned toothily at the Dovaa, “None in particular, I;ve got no preference. It's all meat to me, so I'll take any of it.” She'd take all of it. But the bonded was there and a Peisio besides, and thus doubly interesting to her and worthy of some manners. She shifted, letting Cid roll off her back with a unhappy bleat. “And some o' them...” she nosed at the fruits and vegetables, “For my matey here.” she looked Esmeralda over, “If'n ye don't mind... you a Peisio too, like yer bonded, Esmer'lda?” she asked, contracting the woman's long name on purpose just to feel it roll over her tongue. "I'm a real fan o' the clan. Water be amazin', ain't it?"

Muriel looked at Naita dubiously before setting down a lot closer to Esmeralda than she usually would. She even went as far as wrap her tail around Esme when she settled down to lean back on Muriel. “If you say so.” Was all Muriel could manage because she did not know whether to take Naita seriously or not but walked on the fine line of caution instead. Esmeralda on the other hand was oblivious to the fact that Naita could possibly serious. She took it as some sort of feral Khehora joke and didn’t even give it a second thought.
Since Muriel particularly liked Argaroo, Esmeralda made sure to give Naita some Hastar. She herself took no meat and instead prepared some vegetables and fruits for Naitas.. pet? She wasn’t too sure if feral Khehora kept them or not or if it was to eat. She put the place once it was filled down near him and then proceeded to make her own plate. “That I am.” She answered and put a few berries into her mouth. “It’s nice, though I don’t do any fighting.” Then she corrected herself. “I don’t hunt.” Since in her mind there was a difference, she wanted the difference known.

Naita shoved the vegetables and berries in front of Cid, who sniffed them warily before – carefully – lifting a few to his little chomping mouth. “Maaaah.” he said, either protesting or complimenting the food. Either way, he ate. Naita herself promptly began to tear apart the hastar meat. It was good and tender and meat-y. An excellent way to... well, not start, but continue... her day. “You don't hunt?!” said the khehora, pausing in surprise, “Or fight?! How do ya, you know, live?” she poked the meat, “Or get this good stuff?”

“Not at all.” Esmeralda gave Naita a smile as she picked at her own food. Muriel herself took a lady like chomp from her own piece of meat. She had manners after all and they were wit company. “Well I am a scholar, I tutor and get paid to teach. As such I make gold and am able to buy whatever it is I may need from hunters and gatherers. Muriel herself hunts.” If the Khehora could have grinned she would have. “It has become quite a fun sport if I should say so myself. Though my skills I fin are still quite lacking in some departments. You must hunt Naita right?”

“You get paid for teaching?!” Naita stared at her for a moment. There had been teachers in her old tribe, long ago, but they'd not been paid. They'd done it for free, out of duty to their tribe. She thought about it for a moment and then chowed down another piece of her meat. “Nice gig.” she commented. What if they had been paid in material goods instead of respect? They'd have been fatter, that was for sure, and they'd not have had to work or hunt or gather. Just talk, endlessly, to bored Orakoi. That sounded like an excellent idea for a dream job - Naita wondered why it hadn't been done before. “Aye. I can't teach or anything. I ain't smart enough.” her eyes glittered with her jibe – at both the scholar and herself - “So I fight for my food.” she shrugged, “Sometimes, I steal it. Othertimes it gets given to me.” she shrugged, a gesture that involved her whole back and wings, “So, what do you teach that gets you nice grub like this?” she asked, curious. Again, she didn't pretend to be able to teach, but hey – maybe she'd learn something.

“Yes, I am a highly regarded scholar in the Celestial Plane.” Her work had garnered her quite the reputation, as had her marriage to Eku and then her daughter. The whole thing brought mixed feelings, but she was working those out. Esmeralda cleared her throat to clear her thoughts. “Thank you. I have been doing it since I was an apprentice. It is my calling.” Even if she hadn’t been paid to teach, she would have found some other job but kept on teaching because she enjoyed doing so. Muriel too enjoyed teaching so they made a great match for each other.
The jibe completely went over Esme’s head, she actually felt sorry for the Khehora. She couldn’t believe that she had to steal to get her food. At least now she was helping her not steal, Esme also wanted to leave her the food that would be left. “I teach about dragons, though not Khehora. My area is the dragons that we hunt. I believe it would be slightly rude if I had studied Khehora.” She’d have to invade their space and ask them questions most probably didn’t want to answer. “No one else has done such extensive work, so people want to learn.”

“About dragons?” Naita asked, “Like... how to fight them, or...?” she tilted her head at the dovaa, “But hang on, you don't hunt, not even for food, so how do you find anything out about dragons?” What a confusing idea. “Well, wait, aren't khehora interesting too?” she asked, teasingly.

“Well, how they live, how they act. Their lives basically and habits.” Esmeralda would never acknowledge that the information she provided could possibly be used to harm the dragons. She was sure some people did use it for horrible things, like finding the dragons for one. She knew that was how the world ran however and she couldn’t fault anyone for it. “I travel of course, I observe them.” Esmeralda shrugged. “Before I had my daughter I did a lot traveling around since my husband was Oblivionite.” Now, she only wanted to stay home and find a nice quiet spot.
“Of course Khehora are interesting too. But I can only study so much in one life time.”

Naita laughed. “I'm betting the dragon's ain't too pleased about that!” she quipped, “They're odd creatures, from what I've seen of 'em. Shy-like, less they want your hide.” she tore into her share, chomping down the meat – only polite to eat what was given to her, after all – before flicking her bright eyes back to the dovaa. “I 'spect it's a hard studying you've got...” she said mildly, “Walkin' into the dragon's jaws, as it were...” She finished her meat and licked her lips, fast at first, then slower, more thoughtful... “Did ye say... yer mate or whatever 'husband' be... Did ye say he were an Oblivionite?” She gave Esmeralda an incredulous look. “That ain't yer kind, is it? All ye Magescians look th' same to me.”

“Not always, but I do try not to bother them too much.” Esmeralda chuckled at her words and Muriel ‘hmphed’. Esme was perfectly in good hands with her thank you very much! She would never allow something bad to happen to her. Esmeralda pat Muriel’s shoulder gently and offered her a smile, she knew she was safe she didn’t have to get so riled up from the Khehora’s comments. Esme certainly didn’t and Muriel was old enough to know the other simply didn’t know any better. Glancing up, Esmeralda looked up to see some dark clouds heading their way. The day was ruined.
“Yes he was Oblivionite. They have dark skin and no eyes.” Esmeralda began packing the things up, leaving the meat for last in case Naita wanted to grab some more for herself. “Dovaa resemble more dragons, Oblivionite are dark and Orderite are well light,” she chuckled. “Maybe that will help you.” Once all packed up, Esmeralda got up. “Well it was nice meeting you Naita, but we must get to shelter before the storm hits.” The Dovaa bowed somewhat. “Pleasure meeting you.” Muriel added before helping Esmeralda get on her back and settled there so she wouldn’t fall. Then they were off.

Naita happily brought the meat closer – it was good stuff. However... “Aww, crud... Yer leaving?” she said, unhappily. Meat was good and all, but she'd really been there for the people. The conversation. The easing of her loneliness. She knew the difference, vaguely, between the magescians, but that wasn't the point here. The point was, this weird Dovaa was leaving. “Great meeting ya too.” she said, waiting for an invitation. She got none. She didn't really want to shelter from the storm – she wanted to ride it. Storms were fun and dangerous and exactly what Naita wanted in her life, but... she would be all alone. Also she was too full to do any actual riding. Just watching, then. “Good travels to ye both. Don't get yerself eaten by any dragons!” she called to them. And with that, she – somewhat reluctantly, took her meat and went in search of a perch to watch the storm from...
