Glitnir should have spent this weekend visiting Cornelius, but there was one question he wanted answered, and he figured he should wait a bit before going back to Cornelius with his full collection of information and conclusions. Put simply, he wanted to see someone on the other side of the spectrum from Megiddo, someone who didn't think sending the enemy straight to hell was the best answer. Perhaps hearing from both sides would help him make a decision.

There was a big aura off in the distance. The sensation almost made Glitnir feel a bit giddy; he'd hit the jackpot! There was a Knight nearby! If whoever it was had made it to Knight, they had to have at least some experience under their belt. He did the same thing he'd done for the past several Knight encounters: "Hello? Who's there?" Calling out and letting people know that someone was aware of their presence always seemed to work, somehow.

"Kairatos of Mars" Was the answer, as Kairatos answered the call that he assumed was coming from the Page signature in the area, heading in that direction. "And you?" He didn't recognize the voice, but that covered quite a lot of ground really.

It was at least a fairly quiet night so far, a little meet and greet couldn't hurt. Any enemies that popped up would be far enough away that he'd have to hope that someone else could handle them anyway.

Double jackpot! The Knight ahead was of Mars, just as Glitnir was. It seemed like tonight was his lucky night. "Glitnir of Mars!" he called back, advancing on the aura till finally the other Knight was in his sight. "Funny how that works out, huh? Two Mars Knights, meeting in a place like this..." For emphasis, he held up his scale and pointed to the Mars symbol in the middle. "What are you up to tonight? Just patrolling?"

"It is a little funny." Kairatos admitted. "I keep hearing there aren't too many of us around, I've only met two." Though that being said, he'd met far fewer knights than he had actually seen. If nothing else, visits to Olympus Mons had done that much. "Yeah kinda. If I find something I'll handle it, but sometimes it's nice just to go crash around and see if trouble finds me or runs when it senses me coming. Might as well before it gets too cold to really stay powered up long."

"Not many Mars Knights? Interesting. I wonder what the distribution of Knights is across each planet." Nodding, Glitnir added, "Sounds about right. But I guess Mercury Knights don't really mind the cold, do they?" The apparent paucity of Mars Knights gave him an idea for another avenue of questioning. "I wonder... what's your Wonder like? Mine is a courthouse. My ancestor, Cornelius, lives up there." Getting descriptions of other Mars Wonders held a special interest for him; they'd give him a clearer picture of his former planet.

"Lives?" Kairatos raised an eyebrow at the phrasing. Other than reincarnation, as far as he knew, there were ghosts, so the idea of someone having been actually living rather than lingering at a wonder made for a rather unique mental image.

"It's a mix, lots of stables, and I know there's a... " He gestured vaguely. "Sort of a Colluseum but really it was a maze? But I haven't explored that yet. We bred and raised bulls for war." He tapped the bull head imprinted on his armor, though the Bulls head perched on his shoulder was no less obvious. "Reincarnated. No ancestor kicking around." He added, by way of explanation. "How's that work out? The Ancestor thing?"

"Okay, maybe not 'lives.' Hangs around, maybe? Either way, he's there." Glitnir hadn't really put much thought into the semantics of his ancestor's sort of undead state. When Kairatos explained his wonder, he nodded and gave a cheeky grin. "So the bulls aren't just for show? Neat! Someone might say you're... full of bull, though!" He thought he was being clever. "Anyway, I've only seen Cornelius once... I really need to get back there sometime. But it's kind of interesting, you know? He's a good guy, when it comes down to it. Just a bit of a troll. He introduced himself to me by pulling on my hair and said he was going to come down and throw the books at me if I didn't find my signet ring in the archives... but he knows how things work. Told me about the time where you can't go back to the Wonder and things like that."

"Oh that joke has happened. And you could probably make some 'get the horns' jokes too. I tackled an General and nailed him with the horns on this b*****d." He flicked the horns on his shoulder piece with a certain amount of pride.

"I can go about once a week, but I know it's different depending on your strength. Not that I actually go on a weekly basis. Got too much to do around here." He shrugged. "Was he from earth, or Mars?" He wondered, curiously. He didn't remember much about the other knights of Mars, only about his own life so far.

"Oh, sweet," Glitnir said when Kairatos mentioned giving the general the horns of his armor, and he meant it. If this guy was wrestling with Generals, he had to be tough. "I can only go once every three weeks, and... it's been over three weeks. He's probably not going to be happy with me when I come back next." He had to pause and think of the answer to that last question; Cornelius had never explicitly said where he was from, but there was something he said that implied it. "I'm not sure where he was from. I'm guessing he was from Earth, though, because he asked if long hair was in fashion on Earth and what year it was here."

There was something else on Glitnir's mind right now. It was the thing he wanted to ask Cornelius about, but another Knight would do just as well. "The thing about the general reminds me... I've got kind of a serious question for you. How rough do you get with those Negaverse agents? Do you just rough them up a little bit, or a lot, or a real lot? Like... almost-kill or really-kill lot? I'm just asking because I saw something a little bit ago and it's got me thinking." It was someone, not something, but it didn't make too much of a difference at this point.

Kairatos posture changed at the question, drawing up a little maybe, his expression just a little less welcoming and bright. He wondered what Glitner had seen, but he could guess, and he didn't like it.

"It very much depends on the agent." He answered, maybe a hair stiffly. "If I don't have to. Not at all."

The guy looked... well he didn't look young. Not much younger than Kairatos himself, but right until he asked that he wouldn't have put that question in that mouth.

"Obviously it depends on the agent, and the survival of the people you're trying to protect, and your own... but once you've made that choice you can't undo it. Ever."

He took a deep breath before he continued. "You can't save the dead, you just send them back to the Cauldron if you're lucky, and you can't save someone who you give reason to think you're the villain they've been told you are. And no matter who else tells you otherwise, they. Can. Be saved. They're us. They're knights, corrupted by chaos, without even knowing who they might have been or who they could be. Like I was."

He wasn't sure if it was a wise thing to announce to someone who might have already been sold on Castor and his tiny pack of murder pets, but he was pretty sure it was the right thing to say. Besides, he'd promised from the get go he wouldn't keep it a secret. He might not have it marked on his skin like Hvergelmer did, but he didn't care to break his promise either.

Glitnir didn't expect the question to be taken all that well, but he didn't get a straight-out rejection for asking, so the fact that he got an answer was good enough. "That's right... I remember someone telling me that Negaverse agents were just corrupted Knights. 'It depends,' you say... huh. By 'saved,' do you mean through purification? Or is there another way I don't know about?" Something Kairatos had said had caught his attention. "Like 'you were?' Are you telling me you were once a Negaverse agent? Don't worry, I'm not going to attack you if the answer is yes. It just clues me in a little as to your perspective, that's all. I'm looking for some answers, you might say."

"Considering that I outrank you for power, I'd give you props for trying to attack me." Kairatos allowed a hint of amusement to creep back onto his face, a little spark back in his eyes as he did so. "I was agent Realgar. I purified with Iris's help. Many agents either don't get a choice when they're corrupted, or get the choice to join or die. Then serve or die, or worse than die. We can purify a willing human agent, but after that... after that who knows. And they know their targets. How to isolate and shape them, teach them to bow down and serve for a scrap of acknowledgement."

He was relieved at least that Glitnir was listening. That was something anyway, even if it was... damned difficult not to let his voice shake with anger thinking about the way he'd been groomed... the way he'd allowed himself to be treated.

"They also tell their agents that they'll hunt down and kill traitors, but so far, that's been as much a lie as them telling a bunch of desperate souls that they've finally found the family and support and purpose they need. It's like a giant, factory created abusive relationship, at least... for some."

Oh, right. He's two ranks stronger than me. Nearly forgot that. Glitnir felt silly, considering that the bigger aura was right there, but that was all beside the point. "Iris... she's a senshi Princess, I take it?" 'Iris' didn't sound like a location name for a Wonder, but it never hurt to check. Kairatos's description of the Negaverse put him on edge; it certainly sounded like the Negaverse was the kind of organization that thrived on darkness and manipulation. It was a hallmark of some shade of evil if there ever was one. "That's a little scary. They're taking advantage of people who couldn't fight back even if they wanted to... that sounds like an incentive to stop them where we can." Truthfully, he wasn't sure how he could stop the Negaverse on any level greater than a person-by-person level, but perhaps it would do for now.

"It's an excellent reason to stop them, but it's also why I..." Hm, what was a better phrase than want to kick repeatedly in the junk?

"...Strongly disagree with anyone who thinks the best choice of how to do this is to slaughter them from the lowest up. While some of them are legitimately monstrous people who've found their niche, some of them are victims. We don't go out and kill other people for being sucked into an abusive relationship, we shouldn't here either, not unless we have no other option. Not saying it's the easy road. ******** I was a right b*****d. I imagine I looked pretty ******** hopeless right until I showed up asking to change sides." He had to admit that. It wasn't like digging wouldn't turn it up anyway. "Murder is a tool of Chaos. Putting someone down should never be out first choice. It validates everything the General Kings want everyone to believe about us, it brings us to their level, and that's not a good thing."

He paused and added. "And yeah, she's the Senshi of Rainbows. Don't let the sphere fool you, about ninety perfect of the time she's rude and punchy. She can get a little weird when she puts the big wings on though, like she suddenly gets all froofroo. Get's the job done though."

"Hmm. I see." Kairatos's perspective was an interesting one, and it brought a lot of questions to Glitnir's mind that he wasn't quite sure how to articulate. "What should we do, then? Killing them isn't the answer, but not all of them will listen to reason." When phrased like that, the situation seemed almost hopeless. The more he tried to parse out an answer for himself, the more stuck he got. "I guess it's not as clear cut as doing one or the other. It sounds like the best way to go about things is handling them on a case-by-case basis. What do you think about that?"
