Flora Sky (ROM) Nuzlocke Challenge Rules
- You must nickname all of your pokemon after a Deity (any religion, fake deities count)
- If a pokemon faints, it's dead and you have to permabox it.
- You can only catch the first pokemon you meet on each route and no other.
(Exceptions: Shiny pokemon and in-game event pokemon. Duplicates don't count as first encounters.)
- You can catch an HM Servant to be able to move forward, but cannot use it in battle.
- Custom Rule: Female-only pokemon need apply. Male pokemon do not count as first encounters.
- Custom Rule: You cannot buy revives. HOWEVER: you can use revives you find.
- Custom Rule: Each Gym badge acts as a "checkpoint" that will allow the player to start over from the previous Gym if they get a game over.
- Custom Rule: If there is a Safari Zone (or an approximation therefore of) the first pokemon species I encounter (female) is the one that will count. I will have until the end of that safari zone (i.e.: 30 balls/however-many steps) to catch that species. Because, f-man, safari zones are annoying.

Britannia

Modest Piplup

Britannia is a bit of a mixed bag. I think that she knows more about battling than I do- I guess she must of learned some things when she was at Birch's lab?- which is brilliant, really. She's helped me figure out how to train the pokemon I've captured since we started the journey, but the moment that I try to thank her or compliment her on it- or on anything, really- she clams up fast as you would believe. She rarely goes back into her pokeball, preferring to walk out with me, but she'll snap back into quick-as-can-be if I so much squeal in her direction. She's totally fine when I do it to my other pokemon but.. she doesn't like the attention for herself, I guess. The only odd thing is that she's developed an aversion to people with green hair. I guess she really didn't like being casually manhandled by Wally.

Polyhymnia

Lonely Ralts

She's a rather clingy little thing. There are three things in life she seems to like: me, her old ralts friend that Wally captured, and Gwydion. She and Gwydion are thick as thieves (I say that literally, as Gwydion is quite the little pickpocket, and Poly is a sweet face that can distract people.) She's rather mellow, at least until she thinks someone is taking one of her three favourite people away from her. I'm going to feel rather sorry for Wally's belongings if we ever catch up to him, because I have little doubt that Gwydion will help Poly get revenge on him for capturing her friend.

Gwydion

Lonely Zigzagoon

…Gwydion is a no-good little thief.. but I say that affectionately. I'd like to think that all of the items she picks up were legally obtained (as in: "lookie here, this was just laying on the ground!) but I heard one of the people from the Poke Center wondering where a coil of escape rode had gone, only minutes after Gwydion trots up to me with it in her mouth. But.. well… I'm a lone girl on an adventure, and I'm not exactly loaded at the moment, so her procurements really are helping me manage my money. Oh well. She seems to do it out of love (or worry, since she seems to think that if she's not useful, I'll abandon her) and although she's not the best influence on Poly, they seem to make each other happy with their mischief.

Tlaloc

Calm Lotad

Personality description goes here and looks something like this. I imagine that
each one is going to vary somewhat. At least, I really hope they will. I wonder
how many lines it will take to get past this image? It would be nice if I could keep these things
relatively brief, but then again I might want the ability to go on for a while from time to time. I
guess we'll see.

Journal Entry 001:

I'm currently wedged between two boxes in a moving van headed towards my new town. Even if I didn't have the sharp edge of a box digging into my side, I wouldn't be thrilled with my situation. To take my mind off of my boredom and irritation, I had started to rifle through one of the boxes, which is where I found this blank journal. I haven't written one of these in awhile, so I might be a bit rusty.

Let's get this started... ahem.

Hi! I'm Shakti! Named for "divine feminine creative power" according to my mom. I think that I was named as a subtle dig towards dad, who was off on a pokemon adventure during most of mom's pregnancy.

But... being named for an awesome concept, and a really old Goddess too, isn't half-bad. Maybe I'll stick with a deity theme once I finally get my own pokemon? We don't really know anything about the deities of old- and most people have forgotten all about them- but they should at least make for some interesting names, right?

Oh. The moving van just stopped moving. I guess we're finally at our new home. "Small Town," it's called.

Gotta go. I hear mom calling.

MAGICIAN'S LOG . . .

LOCATION: Small Town
MOOD: …Meh

We're now at our new home. Mom has decided to go the lazy route and hired some Vigoroth's to do all of the work for us. I just hope that she's accounted for the fact that they have claws. I suspect that 'delicate' work is out of their wheelhouse. But with nothing else for us to do, she's decided that I must IMMEDIATELY go set the clock in my room. RIGHT NOW. A little bit weirded out by her enthusiasm for the job, I went to do so.

I think Mom isn't taking Dad's decision to move and become a Gym Leader too well. The moment I finished setting my clock, she burst into my room to tell me to check my desk, and then left again. The only thing on my desk was a copy of "Adventure Rules" which I've read over a dozen times already. I don't suppose this means she'll finally let me have my own pokemon?

…Guess not. I showed my face downstairs for two seconds before mom sent me off to meet the neighbours. Guess I'll go do that now.

LOCATION: Small Town, back from the neighbours
MOOD: Little annoyed

Met Brendan- Professor Birch's kid who is the same age as me, and also our new neighbour- and we spoke for all of 5 seconds before he booted me out of his room to do something more interesting. Nice bloke. Can you tell that I'm lying?

What do I have against the guy after 5 seconds of conversation? Let me set the scene and take you back......

THEN

After meeting Mrs. Birch, who insisted that her son was looking forward to meeting me, she sent me up to his room. Was he there? No. "Looking forward to meeting me," hmmm? I contemplated leaving immediately- standing around in some random guy's room has never been on my list of priorities- but if Mrs. Birch was anything like my mom, I suspected she'd force me back upstairs through sheer creepy-enthusiasm. I am not exaggerating when I state that both my mother and Mrs. Birch seemed just a tad bit too forceful with getting myself and this unknown guy alone in the same room.

Weren't families supposed to introduce themselves together? Do the whole creepy meet-and-greet, and suffer through trite questions about how we liked the town? Apparently not. It was better to shove the new girl into a teenaged boy's bedroom and leave them alone. Totally normal. I'd be thankful that the "teenage boy" in the equation wasn't in here with me, if it hadn't meant that I was trapped in his room by myself.

Minutes passed. Just as I was about to start snooping around his room- I only hadn't before now because I didn't really want to see what teenage boys had to hide- he sauntered through the door. He greeted me like we had run into each other outside, oh-so-casually and like he was surprised I was here. In his room. Where his mom had forced me.

What was his first words to me? 'How do you like the town?' 'What's your favourite pokemon?' 'Is your mom as nutty as mine?' Nope. It was a comment on my gender. How he didn't know that I was a girl. Okay, fine, a little odd but nothing bad. Until the next words out of his mouth.

"I heard the next-door neighbour is a Gym Leader's kid, so I assumed you'd be a guy."

UH. WHAT?

With a name meaning "divine feminine creative power" I sort of grew up naturally giving no-shits about the bullshit that the patriarchy slips into the media. I played with what I liked, irrespective of what "gender roles" were naturally assigned to it: I loved my Super Jenny Dolls, but just as deeply loved my Hitmonchan Beat-Em-Up Game.

I was tempted to show him one of the moves said Hitmonchan beat-em-up game had taught me, but my silent rage kept me mute, and his foot in his mouth kept him from noticing my apoplexy. I don't know if it's because he's that much of a p***k, or because I wasn't the guy he'd thought I'd be, but he not-so-subtly told me he had better things to do. I took the opportunity to leave as soon as possible, ignoring Mrs. Birch cheery smile.

NOW

Honestly, it doesn't even bother me that much. So he's a p***k. I should be off on a journey of my own soon, which meant the chances of us having to interact much in the future wasn't high. What I really cared more about was that I didn't have a pokemon. Which even the p***k had been so kind to point out.

With nothing better to do, I'm going to go check out Mt. Fullmoon. If I tell mom I'm going to meet the nice Daycare Couple, she probably won't get mad at me for "going into danger without a pokemon to protect myself with!" What she doesn't know, and all that.

I'll take my journal with me this time. Who knows what could happen on the road of life?

LOCATION: Mt. Fullmoon
MOOD: What's happening?

The walk to Mt. Fullmoon was a pretty short one, but took awhile since I stopped to poke around town first. Someone next to our house gave me a free Sooth Bell- if only I had a pokemon…- and I nipped into the PokeMart and somehow exited with one of every type of mail they offer. I think I'm making it pretty obvious that I want to start on a journey if I've resorted to buying mail.

But I'm now at Mt. Fullmoon, and something interesting has happened already! I found a small cave after wandering around for a few minutes, and inside was a gorgeous pokemon that disappeared when I got too close. According to a weird lady calling herself Flash, it was an illusion created by the "rare pokemon named Cresselia."
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Flash, who had appeared just as suddenly as Cresselia had disappeared, took her leave of me soon after, leaving me alone in the small cave for the first time. See, I knew it was a good idea to bring my journal with me. Interesting things are happening already.

…Wait. I hear something. It sounds like… running?

LOCATION: Enroute to Prof. Birch's Lab, Small Town
MOOD: Oh, happy day!

It was only Professor Birch, which wasn't very interesting at all. He seemed a bit shocked to see me in the cave- probably thought I was still in the clutches of his wife, or suffering his son's presence- and proceeded to remind me how helpless I was without a pokemon. I sort of just nodded and hoped that he wasn't going to drag me back to town.

Thankfully, a distraction was provided. When a wild zigzagoon rounded the corner and made a beeline towards Professor Birch, he panicked. One of the foremost experts on pokemon panicked, shoving his bag at me and directing me to choose one of the three pokemon within to defend him with!

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

It was kind of lame for him to make me protect him, but I wasn't going to turn down a pokemon. Or my first battle.
User ImageUser ImageUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
The pokeball contained an adorable Piplup who proceeded to pound her furry opponent into the ground. I didn't really know much about her, but she took my vague directions well, but seemed a bit shy when I complimented her after the battle. In the middle of my joyous fist-pumping- I had gotten my very first pokemon!- piplup let herself back into her pokeball all on her own.

Perhaps I should tone down my enthusiasm; I didn't want to startle her. Reaching to grab my new pokemon (yes, I'm ignoring the fact that Birch didn't say that I could keep her, yet. Shh!) my happy bubble was popped when Birch grabbed my attention, and started ushering me towards his lab.

Since he might notice if I disappeared when his back was turned, I instead settled for writing all of this in my journal as we walk. He better not let me fall in a ditch or smack into a tree.

I sort of tuned out what Professor Birch was saying until he told me what I wanted to hear: that I could keep my new piplup. Thinking back onto my thoughts about deities from earlier, a name easily came to me for her.

Welcome to the team!

Even Prof. Birch trying to shove me at his son (like wife like husband, I guess?) couldn't put a dent in my mood. With my first pokemon partner in hand, I could deal with Brendan's prickish-ness. In fact, I could even rub it in his face that I hadn't needed any of his assistance to get my first pokemon. Besides, Prof. Birch wanted me to find him… but he didn't say that it was urgent. I was going to take my time. Maybe explore that cave from earlier more? Or find out where that exit went.

I "dutifully" trudged off to find Brendan, heading back towards Mt. Fullmoon. There wasn't much of interest to see in the main area of the cave. Big boulders blocked a few paths further into the caves, and I only had two routes left open to me. I'd see where the exit closest to me led, before checking the opening further down in the cave.

LOCATION: Mt. Fullmoon
MOOD: Does everyone here have a link to Birch?

Right. Back now. The first exit lead to outside the cave: route something or other. I didn't get more than a few feet into the route before my path was blocked by some guy claiming to be an assistant to Professor Birch. Sky (the assistant) insisted that I return into the cave and find Brendan, going so far as to bodily stand in my way.

I was sort of temped to try darting around him. I'm a fair bit shorter than most adult males, and right-quick to boot. There was a reason that not having pokemon hadn't gotten me injured before now. But Sky looked kind of serious about me going back inside, so I turned around and headed towards the other opening I had seen.

Lo and behold, I found myself in another small inner cave, this time staring at Brendan's back, rather than the beautiful illusion of Cresselia. It was a step down. But, see, I'm all about giving people a second chance. I might not have been thinking of Brendan in kind terms in my mind, but at least I hadn't been rude to him yet. He still had a chance to turn around my opinion of him. He didn't take that chance. instead saying something like:
"I see my dad gave you a pokemon… great. now, try to be a trainer!"

And then he challenged me out of nowhere! See, that emphasis on try had "I'm being a condescending a*****e" written all over it; so, of course, I accepted! I was going to show him!

Britannia did a great job… despite my foolish mistake of not getting her checked over after her fight with the zigzagoon earlier. I'm just glad that despite having supposedly had a pokemon for awhile, Brendan's turtwig didn't seem much stronger than Britannia. Still… the oran berry that Britannia had on her at the time gave her a pick-me-up in the middle of the battle, and despite my carelessness, she kicked butt again.

Brendan was pretty cool about me winning. I can't tell if he's extremely laid-back about everything, or just a jerk. I guess time will tell. He left soon after, and since I had completed my task for Prof. Birch, it was time for me to head back.

Since I wasn't making such a big fuss about her victory- I had managed to keep my enthusiasm on the inside this time around- Britannia didn't retreat to her pokeball. She was a bit banged up from the two back-to-back battles, but she toddled into my arms without fuss when I bent down to pick her up. She was much softer than she looked. Within a few minutes of walking back to town, she had fallen asleep.

LOCATION: Small Town
MOOD: Won't this day just end already?

Alas, I didn't get away from Brendan quite as easily as I would have hoped. With Britannia asleep in my arms, I started to make my way back to Small Town, only to see Brendan standing next to the exit of the cave. His arms were crossed and although there was nothing outright hostile in his expression, the look in his eyes seemed to state "took you long enough."

Seeing him waiting to escort me back to town- as if I wasn't capable of making it back without his surely invaluable assistance- made me want to dig in my heels.
Only the knowledge that the "assistant" from earlier, Sky, was blocking one exit, and Brendan was at the other, stopped me. I had nowhere to run!

It was back to Small Town.

We walked in dead silence the whole way back, Brendan leading the charge by several steps and not once glancing back at me. p***k. What was the point of forcing his presence on me if he was only going to studiously ignore me?

We arrived at the lab and Birch immediately called us over and, ignoring the dead-silence between the two of us, he obliviously started to chatter away. Blah blah, my son is awesome, blah blah, he has so much experience, blah blah, don't you just love him already?!

…I may be exaggerating a little bit, but it was creepy. My only consolation during the awkward encounter had been that Brendan looked embarrassed, and more than a bit uncomfortable at all of the undeserving praise. For me, it was more of a kind of annoying, want-to-run-the-other-way sort of situation.

But, once Brendan had been suitably embarrassed, and myself suitably annoyed, Birch finally did something useful (yunno, besides giving me my first pokemon… shh!) and gave me a POKéDEX! An actual, honest-to-goodness, shiny, new, beautiful, gorgeous POKéDEX! With my hands full with a still-sleeping Britannia, though, I just put it in my bag. I would play around with it later. When I was at home. And not here.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

With the lull in conversation created by the hand-over of the POKéDEX- Birch obviously expected me to start poking through it now and to ask him a bunch of questions- I took the golden opportunity and fled.
When Brendan stepped in my path, I thought he was going to stop me from leaving. Instead, he just handed me some pokeballs with a comment about catching lots of pokemon, and then watched as I fled out the door, homeward bound.

And, journal, that's how my day ended.
I have been in Small Town for one day only, and I'm already looking forward to leaving it as soon as possible.
I have the oddest feeling that if I stick around for much longer, my mom and Professor Birch will arrange to marry me away to Brendan.

LOCATION: Small Town
MOOD: Time to leave

The next day shined bright and early… only, it didn't. My first day in Small Town must have taken more out of me than I thought, because when I next woke up, the sun was already beginning to go down. Britannia was still on the bed where I had left her curled up, but she was now awake and looking much healthier. Sometime when I was asleep, she had also started to rifle through my hip-pouch and was now happily playing with the shell bell that a random neighbour had gifted me with earlier.

Getting up for the day… errr… night, I decided to let her keep it, and started to pack up my belongings for my new journey. I didn't have much:
One lonely potion, five pokballs (the only good thing to come out of my three encounters with Brendan so far), the shell bell Britannia was playing with, the small stack of mail I had bought from the pokemart yesterday, and the POKéDEX Birch had given to me.

I quickly stuffed the potion into my hip-pouch, alongside Britannia's pokeball. The five empty pokeballs instead went into my hat, fitting snuggly in a secret compartment (what, did you think a hat that big wasn't for a reason?) Finally, I turned my attention towards my new POKéDEX. It was a glossy red colour, and a panel flipped open horizontally to display a screen and a bunch of small buttons. I spent the next few minutes playing around with it- learning a bit more about piplups in the process- before I felt I had a good grasp on it.

xxxxUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Tucking the POKéDEX into my hip-pouch as well, I clasped on my travelling cloak, put on my hat, and wandered over to collect Britannia. Britannia jumped into my arms immediately, but soon after clambered up my shoulders and over my head, eventually resting on the brim of my hat. It made the hat a bit top-heavy, but it would free up my arms for travel, so I let her be.

Trooping down the stairs- the thin soles of my shoes providing no traction against the smooth hardwood floor, and reminding me that I would need to replace them soon, probably in the next town- I arrived on the first floor, where my mother was.

"Mom, I'm leaving now!" Was my incredibly descriptive farewell.

"Okay, honey! Have fun, and make sure to come back if you or your pokemon need any rest!"
And that was it. I got a small hug, sure, but she looked entirely unconcerned. I wasn't quite sure she realized that I had actually meant, "Mom, I'm leaving town immediately to go on a pokemon journey, and I have no intentions of returning for a good long while, unless I have a damn good reason for it" but I wasn't going to try to clear things up. She'd figure it out eventually…

I set off, leaving Small Town. If Sky tries to stop me from leaving Mt. Fullmoon this time, boy, will he have something else coming to him.

MOOD: There goes my happy mood

Sky was still there, blocking the path. But this time, the magic of my POKeDEX made him let me through. But not without calling over some-green-haired-guy named Wally to teach me how to catch pokemon.

Yeah. You heard that right. Do I have a sign on my forehead that says "hopeless idiot?" I've only wanted to go on this journey for years, but… nope. Nope.
Apparently throwing a pokeball at a pokemon is something that I need to be taught.
xxxxxUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

I SWEAR, I'M NOT AN IMBECILE! Everyone just seems determined to treat me like one.

So he dragged me off into the tall grass nearby and then had the audacity to "borrow my pokemon." He plucked Britannia right off of my head and set her in front of a wild ralts.
I wanted to deck him. Badly. NO ONE MANHANDLES MY POKEMON WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION!

Britannia looked confused, but had to fight back when the ralts started to attack. My rage once again kept me quiet, giving her no choice but to listen to Wally's orders. UGH. I gritted my teeth, scowling at Wally as he ordered Britannia around. Thankfully, the ralts seemed to know nothing but growl, and Britannia came away from the battle unscathed. As soon as Wally had captured the ralts, Britannia abandoned him and ran behind me, clinging to the back of my leg. Apparently Britannia didn't like someone else "borrowing" her, either.

My glare didn't lessen when he thanked me, or gave me more advice about catching pokemon that I already knew. Then he did something totally unexpected. Out of nowhere, he handed me a brand-new pair of running shoes. Good quality ones, too. It was creepy that they happened to be in my exact size, but I was willing to dismiss the heebie-jeebies that thought gave me and not look a gift horse in the mouth. This would save me a bunch of money. It sort-of made up for him jacking my pokemon for a few minutes. Almost.

He wandered off a moment later- it seems that Sky had also disappeared at some point- and, finally left to my own devices, I immediately put my new shoes on. They did fit perfectly, and it was nice to be wearing a sturdier-feeling pair of shoes. I suppose if I had to be exposed to creepy people, it was best that they were creepy people bearing gifts. With my new shoes on, it was time to officially start my adventure! And what better way than to catch my first pokemon? It was a bit uncomfortable to walk with Britannia still clinging to the back of my leg, but I wouldn't begrudge her the comfort, and together we set off into the tall grass again.

MOOD: Guess who caught a pokemon?

Guess what the first pokemon I ran into was? If you guessed another ralts, you would be absolutely correct! We had been wandering through the tall grass for only a few minutes when a ralts came running from the opposite direction, completely ignoring us in favour of looking around herself frantically. This other ralts seemed to be looking for something, or someone. Curious, I walked towards the ralts, but when she noticed us, she started to back away, growling weakly. Hmm. Perhaps the only move she knew, too, was growl?

"What are you looking for?" I had asked, bending down a little to look less threatening. Britannia peeked out from behind my leg, and made her way towards the ralts, who backed up warily but didn't run away. I watched as Britannia said something to the ralts- I had no idea what, but I hoped she was asking what was wrong, like I had tried- and they conversed for about a minute before Britannia came toddling back over.

"So?" I had asked, curiously. Britannia mimed throwing something, and then pointed back at the ralts. At first I thought she was telling me to capture the ralts, but then she pointed at my shoes.

Pokeball. Ralts. Running shoes. What did those three things have in common?

"Wally?" Britannia nodded, "So… the ralts is looking for the ralts that Wally captured?" Another nod. Well. That was bad for this ralts, then. Her friend was long gone, and from the way the ralts was slumped on the ground a few feet away from us, I guess Britannia had informed her of this.

"It'll be lonely without him. Let's take her with us!" I had suddenly exclaimed, grinning a little. That way she wouldn't be alone, and maybe we'd run into Wally again sometime and the ralts' could reunite, "Go get her, Britannia!" And Britannia dashed off, tackling ralts backwards, catching the little pokemon by surprise. Britannia bopped her over the head once, and then stood over her threateningly, chittering something. I crawled over to the duo, and gently rapped the ralts on the head with a pokeball, and she disappeared in a flash of light. The ball rocked once, before stilling.

You won't be lonely with us! (Well, not as much!)

LOCATION: Route A -> Forest Entrance
MOOD: The best part of the afternoon was the tea

Route A turned out to be pretty short, smoothly flowing into an area known as the Forest Entrance. I hadn't seen an entrance to any forest yet, but I did see a Pokemon Center. It was the perfect place for a small rest, and to get Poly (short for Polyhymnia, of course) checked over before going out to get her some experience in battle. Britannia and I had run into quite a few pokemon on the way through Route A (mainly patrat and zigzagoon that didn't seem to like us in their grass) and I was confident enough now that Britannia could assist Poly in battle until she was ready to go in it solo.

We stopped for lunch at the Poke Center, and after Nurse Joyce had healed the bump on Poly's head, she joined us for some food. By the end of the meal, she had gotten over her shyness and had snuggled up right at my side, refusing to move until I picked her up as we exited the center. Britannia blazed a trail ahead of us, running off to find a weak-looking pokemon for Poly to have her first fight against. We spent about an hour getting Poly used to fighting, before we started to head further into our new route. We only got a few steps past the Pokemon Center before a series of events prevented us from moving forward.

One. I noticed a bunch of oddly dressed people milling about, huddled together and talking.
Two. An old lady calling herself Mrs. Master told me what a "shady bunch of people those no-good-shady people are" and then invited me to stop by her house.
Three. The shady people left, after which Mrs. Master also left.
Four. Professor Birch came bursting onto the scene, panting up a storm, but grinning as he caught sight of me. Apparently he had forgotten to give me the "National Dex" upgrade to my POKeDEX and had tracked me down to do so. I thanked him politely, and tried to get him to go away (without being rude or obvious about it) but I wasn't in luck. He dragged me back off to the Pokemon Center so that he could, "rest his tired, aching legs" and made me have afternoon tea with him.

It shouldn't surprise anyone what his two favourite conversation topics were: the POKeDEX and trying to make sure I would catch lots-and-lots-and-lots of pokemon, and Brendan. He mentioned him several times, asking if I had seen him yet- no- if I was looking forward to another battle with him- not in so many words, no- and then asking me to keep any eye out for him- do I have to?

He left after tea- ABOUT TIME- wanting to return home before it started to get dark. With him gone, I scrambled to leave the immediate vicinity, just in case he remembered something else he needed to give and/or say to me. I returned to my last know location, keeping an eye out for any shady people dressed in red. I quickly found them, blocking the entrance to what must be the forest that the route was named for. Curious- and ignoring Mrs. Masters' advice- I walked closer, greeting the teenaged boy and girl standing guard. My request to go into the forest was denied, and so was my query as to what they were doing there in the first place.

Unless I was prepared to fight them for the right to enter a forest I didn't really care about, it was best that I leave. So I did, continuing further into the route. It didn't take me very long to realize that I was being followed…

LOCATION: Forest Entrance -> Mrs. Master's House
MOOD: Meet the kleptomaniac stalker...!

The stalker didn't turn out to be anyone or anything malicious, in the end. I could hear something following us as we walled through the tall grass, and it didn't take long for me to suss out that it was a four-legged pokemon. The pitter of patter of feet came closer, colliding with the back of my legs as I abruptly stopped and then turned around quick-as-could-be.

It was a zigzagoon, and a rather startled one at that. The little stalker quivered in place for a moment, before dropping something in front of me, and darting away from us and back into the grass. Curious, I picked up the object, and to my surprise, it was a repel. Huh. Getting presents from stalkers never seemed to work out well on TV, but then again, all of those stalkers were humans. I would be much less accepting if I found myself with one of those.

I tucked the repel in my back, and started moving again. It only took a few minutes before the pitter-patter of furry paws caught my attention again. Our stalker had returned, and I had a plan. Poly was still a bit too green for a sneak attack, so Britannia was up to bat again. I slowed my walk a bit- not enough to scare the little zigzagoon off- and whispered to Britannia, who was once again perched on my hat. As we rounded a large tree, coming within sight of Mrs. Master's house, I gave the go. Britannia turned around on my hat, staring behind me, and the moment that the zigzagoon had rounded the tree to follow us, she was off.

If you've never seen a piplup fly, it's really quite a sight. I turned around in time to see her fly through the air- so to speak- and tackle the zigzagoon into the dust. Fight on!

It was a short battle, although not quite as pathetic as the fight against Poly had been. Britannia quickly pounded her opponent into the dust, and once I had thrown the pokeball, zigzagoon was caught. Clutching the pokeball in my hand, I continued on my way to Mrs. Master's house. If I was lucky, I might be able to coax a meal and a place to sleep out of her. It was starting to get dark, and I didn't trust sleeping under the stars, what with Team Magma weirdo's being so close at hand. It would also give me some time to figure out why the little zigzagoon had been following me.

Welcome to the team!

LOCATION: Mrs. Master's House -> Route B
MOOD: Free~

Mrs. Master was more than happy to let me stay once she heard that I didn't feel comfortable sleeping in the forest with Team Magma prowling around. She was a sweet old lady- if a little overly paranoid- and was more than happy to set me up on a cot for the night, and to stuff me full of tea cakes that she had left over. She went to bed early, leaving me alone with Britannia, Poly and Gwydion, none of whom seemed eager to return to their pokeball before the next morning's light.

I spent the next few hours doing small little chores, such as: going through the information that my POKeDEX had recorded already, cleaning the muck off the bottom of my boots, giving Gwydion a good brushing (she had mud and twigs stuck in her fur everywhere) and then giving Britannia a bath in the kitchen sink, once she started getting restless due to lack of contact with water. By the time that I was finished, Poly had already fallen asleep on the cot, and Gwydion had soon curled up with her too. Although it was all a bit cramped, I managed to make room for myself on it to, with Britannia snuggled up at my side. Sleep came pretty easily after walking all day long.

---

Morning came early, since Mrs. Master is an early riser. The tea cakes left over from yesterday tasted less appetizing as breakfast than they had as a snack, but it was still free food, so I wasn't going to complain about it. The juice was nice too: cranberry and grape.. hmm! She even had some poke-food on hand, and although it was a default brand (best for normal-type pokemon, but fine for all of the rest, too!) Poly and Britannia ate it with grace, while Gwydion happily stuffed her face. We left not long after breakfast, since I didn't want to overstay my welcome.

The prospect of reaching Peul Town by lunchtime was also a key motivating factor.

And, no, my pokemon did not decide to retreat to their pokeballs for the rest of the journey. Britannia took up spot on my hat again, while Gwydion immediately started to zip in and out of the grass, off on her own grand adventure. Poly stayed in my arms for the most part, avidly tracking Gwydion's movements as she ran around us. It was a good start to the day.
