Sun Hunter
SHADOW RUN

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
General Information
The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.

If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.

If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.

    Mechanics
  • You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel.
  • Simply roll for attack as you would in battle.
  • If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings.
  • After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

  • Trainees: 0 recovery
  • Sun Trainees: 1 recovery
  • Hunters: 1 recovery
  • Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

It didn't happen often, but Zeke needed a break from his research. He'd been at it for hours, the text on the pages was beginning to swirl, and despite his glasses, everything seemed annoyingly blurry. It left the Mist irritable and restless, and all at once he was pushing away from the desk(dropping his glasses onto a note pad) and heading towards the door.

The route he took was automatic more than it was planned. He ended up in front of Ever's door, and after a second or two one large hand was rising up to knock.

Usually he sent a text, announced himself in someway. Then again, usually he was there for a pretty specific reason. Today, however, he had something else in mind.

Not that things couldn't eventually head the way they usually went when they two spent any significant amount of time together.

When Ever opened the door, it was obvious he'd been mid-nap: hair tousled, in only a soft t-shirt and his boxers, one side of his face very pink. He'd blink at Zeke, hand on the doorframe, confused for a moment -- and then, slowly, he came into focus.

"Kind of early, isn't it?" Teasing, but it also crackled, Ever lingering where he stood: not scrambling to get dressed, not just yet.

The door opened to reveal a very sleep tousled Ever. Zeke blinked, pale eyes taking in the mussed hair, the boxers, that unfocused look before pale lips slid into a teasing smile. And for just a moment Zeke forgot why he was there, distracted, as he considered pushing the blonde back into his room and closing the door behind hem.

Instead, and exercising more restraint than he usually bothered with, he passed a quick glance up and down the hall before reaching up to curl fingers along the back of his neck, drawing him in for a quick, thorough kiss. Commanding, almost possessive.

"Not why I stopped by, though oh so tempting." He flashed a grin, patting Ever's pink cheek. "Come do the Sun run with me, I need to hit some s**t." A little of the irritation he'd been feeling previous to Ever's appearance crept back into his voice.

"Hit some...." Ever still looked lost, mouth limp under the kiss, eyes flashing down the hall as if he was trying to remember where he was. And then, finally, he clicked into focus, straightening and scraping at his hair, stepping back out of the doorway. Awake at last.

"Oh. One of the things. Yeah, sure." He didn't close the door behind him, just went digging for a pair of pants that was clear and comfortable, a pair of dark socks, perched on the edge of the bed to drag it all on and then fumble his feet into his combat boots.

He didn't bother putting on a nicer shirt.

Zeke decided to take the lingering unfocused as a result of the kiss, and he grinned. "s**t," he finished with a low chuckle.

He'd linger in the doorway as Ever pulled on pants, aware that if he actually crossed that threshold they probably wouldn't make it to the training course. "Yeah, have you done it before?" He was curious what to expect.

"Which one's Sun again?" It was an easy question, Ever scraping fingers at his hair: as close as he was going to get to brushing it. A comb might have been more effective, so after a moment, he grabbed a hat as well -- pulling it on over the mess to keep it out of his eyes.

"I don't think I have but I forget which is which. I assume that's a fighty one..."

Zeke grinned, watching Ever try to tame the fluff of his hair.

"Something about a corridor and shadowlings, I don't know." He'd heard, but it was hard to keep them straight when he'd on;y checked out the life course so far.

"No princess to defend, then -- " It came with a wary flicker of eyes over Zeke as Ever slid out into the hall, still mussed but presentable enough. Maybe he was wondering what their princess would look like now, and not exactly thrilled with the idea.

"Sure. Shadowlings sounds good. So long as there's no sharpies involved."

"Not so far as I know," he confirmed, gaze dipping as Ever slipped past him into the hall. Zeke Fell into step beside him, hands disappearing into his back pockets.

At the mention of sharpies the Mist made a face, half amused, half irritated. "I really hope there's no sharpies involved, I didn't fair so well last time."

Ever grinned -- and then reached out, easily, to catch Zeke around the shoulders and draw him in closer, patting his arm in a gentle and deliberately condescending sort of way.

"The good news is, I don't have an artistic bone in my body. I'd have to write very neat messages on you." Of course, it wasn't exactly hard to draw certain crude illustrations. But Ever shook his head as they walked. "It could be worse."

There was no fight to the arm that looped around his shoulders and pulled him in. He went with it, hip bumping Ever's hip, and glancing down at the other man's hand as he patted his arm.

"You are such a condescending s**t sometimes." He just sounded amused, and before Ever had a mind to slip away again, he turned his head to graze teeth along the edge of a pale jawline.

"What would you write?" If the Life didn't move away he'd feel a hand on his back, high between his shoulder blades.

"Something from Leviticus, probably." And there was a wider, sharp flash of a grin, Ever's head turned to wiggle both eyebrows at Zeke. He'd let go as they made their way across open ground toward the training course, his hands sliding into his pocket instead. Easy-going, comfortably teasing.

"I'll think about it before stepping foot into the Life course with you."

"Ah, what else." He laughed, letting his hand fall away as they made it out onto the training grounds, heading over the grass towards the Sun course.

"I suppose if I was going to go back in that damn course with another person, it'd be you." If Ever did scrawl bible verses along is skin in neat lettering he wouldn't mind it so much, because it was Ever doing it. If not? Well, then he'd walk out of there marker free.

As they neared, he turned his head, looking up at the blonde. "If get taken out in there, you gunna be my knight in shining armor? Be there when I wake up? All that noble s**t?" He grinned.

"I don't know." It was comfortably blaise, Ever looking back down at Zeke with both eyebrows raised: mock-assessing, like he was trying to decide if the other man was worth it. After a moment, he shrugged, raised one hand in an apologetic sort of way.

"Probably I'll just leave you to the shadowlings and save my a**. But I'll get the door." And he did.
