It seemed like a pretty boring evening. It was starting to get dark, but not quite dinnertime just yet. Willow Wisp, instructed by her sister that she had to ‘get out more’ had come up with an idea to get out and make the park a little more festive for the season. It was after all one of the best times of the year, and that seemed like reason enough to celebrate. The mare spent an unusual part of her day setting up tables on the grassy field of the park. White and orange paper lanterns were strung by twiggy tree branches to keep the area lit, and attractively bright. Next she carted out dozens of pumpkins, all various shapes and sizes that she had…. Found? Liberated? From a suspiciously abandoned pumpkin patch. Finders keepers, thought the brown unicorn.

The really sharp knives she kept in Wisp’s saddle bag, just in case. Dull knives, paints, and just about everything you could think for pumpkin decorating was spread out over the table. The unicorn was vigilant in watching for babs' safety. Candles were haplessly set underneath the tables. The brown mare was finishing the touches on the tables, as she stopped to wondering if this was doing enough to be considered ‘getting out’.

PUMPKINS!
Do you have a babben in need of an element? Perhaps laughter, kindness or honesty? What better way to do that then to create hilarious jack-o-lanterns! Say a kind word about the someone else’s creation, or be honest it could use some work. Help them with a pattern! Did you accidentally cut that hole in the back of another lantern? Confess!

Old Enough and just want to get out there and mingle? Why not meet a new friend and make something while at it. Maybe this is an opportune time for a date. Maybe just swipe a few pumpkins or seeds for late baking or misdeeds.

Willow Wisp has been staking out the pumpkin patch, found some of the best ones and wants to share the glorious orange gourds. She has set up two pairs of long tables , each equipped with buckets, candles, paints and some dull (but functional) knives. Not to mention dozens, upon dozens of pumpkins. Better not ask how she got them all there, what’s important is that it’s pumpkin carving time!
Just in case carving didn't appeal, Wisp set aside a punch bowl of a surprisingly clear looking bright cider and a large container of hot cocoa.

(If you would like Wisp to help your babben with instructions, designs or carving, quote me and she’ll happily help! Feel free to quote me for attention.)

OCCly: I wanna see some jack-o-lanterns! Doodles! GIFs! Memes! Bring out those awesome pictures from the internet for mass amusement.

She, of course, was planning on making one that looked like a fierce and terrifying cat. She would put it on the porch at her stable, and it would be so scary that all the other foals would stay away. Then, she would get to keep her family's candy all to herself. It was a crafty plan, and she was feeling pretty smug for thinking of it.

She immediately claimed the biggest pumpkins she could find, and then snagged some tools to carve it with. Oh yeah. This was going to be awesome!

I'm going for laughter! Her pumpkin is going to turn out terrible, lol.

Wisp was ecstatic when a orange, cat-like foal came and immediately claimed the largest pumpkin Wisp had brought. Curiously, she watched for a moment as the foal set herself up with tools. She wondered what the bab might be thinking of creating, so she ventured forward to investigate.

“That’s quite the pumpkin you have, a lot of space of work with. Have you ever carved a pumpkin before? I bet you have an amazing idea for it.”

She had never carved a pumpkin before, but she didn't want to admit that she had never carved a pumpkin before. "Oh yeah! I'm an old pro at this! I have a pile of trophies at home. At least three of them are for how awesome my pumpkins are."

She beamed with false pride, and jabbed a knife in. Of course, she hadn't even gutted the thing yet. Pumpkin juice squirted out, and caught her in the eye. "AKKK!"

Wisp couldn’t help but giggle as the pumpkin juice spewed out. “Oh, I have no doubt that you must be very talented! You have a lot of confidence, to just go right for a design. But I think maybe you skipped a step or two.”

Using her unicorn magic, Wisp brought over a napkin to clean up the juice on the pumpkin and offered it to the cat-like phony. Next she pulled out the knife. “I think you’ll find it’s a little less messy if you empty it out first.”

Plunging the knife along the top, Wisp cut a circle around the stem and yanked off the top. She tipped the pumpkin forward so that the bab had a easier time to see inside of it. “All of this goo, guts and seeds probably need to be removed. You’ll need a hollow pumpkin if you want it to be a jack-o-lantern.”

The unicorn nudged a bowl over, for the pumpkin insides to go in. She had a feeling this bab probably wouldn’t mind the gory bits of pumpkin carving. “Try and pull some out, it’s almost like doing brain surgery.”

Ung. It smelled. But brain surgery did sound fun.

Paper Tiger reached in and began the messy job of pulling out all the pumpkin guts. Her hooves weren't exactly made for the job, and there was probably some tool she should have been using, but she didn't really care. This was awesome!

She tipped the pumpkin upside down and shook it over the bowl. The insides fell out with a wet slap. There seemed to still be some in there, but it was clean enough... or at least as clean as the foal was going to get it.

Grabbing the knife again, Paper Tiger jabbed it back where she had stuck it before and started the process of carving.

Wisp really couldn't help but giggle a little bit at the cat-like foal's energy; she just went straight for it with everything it seemed. It was a trait that she couldn't help but admire.

With a close eye, she watched the young one stab at the pumpkin. "Do you know what sort of face you want to make? Or a design in mind?" It wasn't that often that she saw someone go in without a clear idea of what to do, but she knew some where talented in coming up with ideas on the spot.

Paper Tiger made a face. "LIKE THIS" she said. Her teeth were out, and she scowled, trying to look terrifying. A pumpkin that looked like her was going to be the best in town.

She looked at her progress. One eye seemed like it was a little larger than the other. She cut away at the smaller one.

Then that one was too large. She cut at the other eye.

This process went back and forth, and the eyes had grown to take up half of the pumpkin. Not the exact look she was going for.... but it would work.... maybe. She turned the face out toward Wisp to show her.

"What do you think so far? Perfect likeness!", Paper Tiger said and then made the scary face again.

There were mild sounds of concern as Paper Tiger cut into the pumpkin and took away more and more of the flesh. Wisp made muffled 'err's, but was too kind to stop her. It would be okay, it wasn't what the pumpkin looked like that really matter but rather that Paper was happy with it.

In the end, Wisp was staring at a pumpkin that had the largest eyes she had see. It was nearly all eyes and a grin. Looking from the pumpkin to Paper's face and back again, she smiled.

"Like looking in a mirror!" Wisp even tried to make the same face herself, all wide eyed and grinning. The look wasn't quite the same on an adult. "Nope, you and the pumpkin are much better with that face than I am. Now you just need a candle to complete the effect and match your bright eyes. Then the look will really be something."

She smiled. The face Wisp made was kind of silly -- no way that's what her and her pumpkin looked like. And it seemed that the mare agreed. Of course Paper Tiger was much better at scary faces! It was kind of her thing.

As instructed, she went to where the candles were, and picked one out to put in. It was a small tea light. Nothing fancy, but it would glow bright enough to make everything super scary! She dropped it in the pumpkin.

"Can you light it for me?" she asked because her hooves were a little clumsy for a match. Besides, then she could stand back and watch it become illuminated. She would be the first to see her masterpiece in all of its glory. Paper Tiger was excited! This was the moment she had been waiting for!

"Of course!" Wisp was more than happy to oblige with lighting the candle. Internally, she was just a teeny bit afraid of how Paper would handle fire given how she plunged the knife in the pumpkin to start. The last thing she wanted was for the pumpkin to catch fire.

Being a unicorn made it that much easier for Wisp however. No messy hooves needed to light a candle. Wisp brought out a box of matches. Taking one out she struck it against the box to light. Using unicorn magic she floated the match out of her hooves and into the pumpkin.

The light flickered and Wisp took a step back to admire the full effect of the pumpkin Paper made. It really was something else with the big glowing eyes. "Remarkable! Spitting image of you now."

"Let's see...." Wisp look arounded a bit. She knew she had brought something with her, to help record the day. The mare went to grab her saddle bag she had left open on the ground and dug through it. When she came back she had a slightly dinged up polaroid camers. "I'm pretty sure this still works...." Wisp motioned for Paper to stand by her pumpkin. "Now say Pumpkin"

At first, Paper Tiger wanted to shriek in horror. Her pumpkin looked TERRIBLE.

Then, something happened. Perhaps it was the look on Wisp's face, or the silliness of having to pose next to the thing for a Polaroid photo, none the less, but she began to crack. Her angry eyes grew wide and twinkled with delight. This was so bad it was HILARIOUS.

Paper Tiger burst out laughing. This was not what she was going for at all! Her pumpkin wasn't scary..... maybe scary bad.... but not scary. She smiled at Wisp, "How did you keep a straight face the whole time? If I were you, I would have laughed at me!"

It was impossible not to laugh as Paper cracked up. Laughter was infectious. Wisp really couldn't help but laugh at the sight of Paper with pumpkin and the strange look of delight mixed with horror.

Stiffling her giggle, Wisp explain her relaxed attitude, " You were trying so hard and seemed to enjoy it! It wouldn't have been fair to laugh at someone working so hard on something. I wouldn't want to hurt your feelings after all. Laugh together about it though is much better."

Wisp looked at the pumpkin again and grinned, "I really kind of like it in a way... it's got an... interesting attitude, for a pumpkin."
